And the world explodes, and Batman's all like "we need Spider-Man and that one peg legged guy from Peter Pan" and then everyone freaking dies but they come back and none of that happens. Jimmy Olsen shows up though that's neat!

But most people preferable old "people only see what they want to see". Like people automatically assume Superman can't be a normal person so they just ignore the idea that Clark looks like him. This also the idea that Clark behave the exact of opposite of Superman they can't be the same person. Like how Christopher Reeve pull off in his version. Feeling like two complete the difference of people. Superman stands up straight, always confidence, always Charming, never afraid, never Bumble his words. ​@@ToxicottonThis is somewhat the answer but not in the actual "terrified of a being with godlike powers" that so many "Superman but evil" characters try to boringly embody. I think there's at least one non-mainline comic that addressed the fact that it's pretty much a golden goose scenario. For the people who do know (in that instance), usually most of them being Daily Planet staff including Lois and Jimmy, there's really no net positive or even singular positive to outing Clark as Superman. After all, he's a good friend and reporter and overall genuinely kind guy even before the fact that him being around means Superman is automatically nearby to help too even if he has to make some thinly veiled excuse to leave. If you out him as Superman, then you might force Clark and Superman himself to leave at least Metropolis for good, which literally only benefits supervillains and alien invaders. Ironically, of the fewer non-superhero people who know Clark's secret identity in more mainline stories, it's only really Lex Luthor who generally refuses to believe it outside of some of the terrible live-action movies (and series). Luthor is just too egotistical to believe that someone as powerful as Superman would choose to be anything less than a godlike being 24/7.

There's a Silver-age story where Superman gets super self-conscious about his disguise and convinces himself that everyone knows that Clark is Superman and they're just humouring him, but it's later revealed that he actually had the power of subconscious hypnotism and had been unknowingly hypnotizing everyone to see Clark Kent as looking much frailer and weaker than he really is.

There is a Silver Age What if story where she lost her memory of being Supergirl(still remember her civilian life) before her marriage with Jimmy Olsen. One day(after marrying Jimmy) it all come back to her, she remembered Jimmy had a crush on Supergirl so she "test" his loyalty by seducing him as Supergirl. This didn't felt like a test because she get pissy whenever Jimmy deny Supergirl. Kara seem to really want to NTR herself
