Hi Luke, Quick tip...When cooking, the fire is hottest directly under the pan. Don't let the fire go around the sides of the pan. It is wasted heat. Just wanted to share... 😁

We know and appreciate the sacrifices you guys make. I love watching you and Susie’s videos. We use to love camping but now with our health, we can’t go anymore. I get my outdoor camping through watching you. I also love the storms. Not necessary the snow.😆. God bless you all.

I learnt the hard way that you need to pack in more food than just the one / two meals. That hard way was snowed in 30+ kilometres away from a public road for 4 days whilst out for an afternoon hunt. Not much fun, and thankfully the weather changed and I could get back to civilisation in my truck. Whilst it was a bit of scare at the time, I had a stack of food, both dried and frozen to choose from. I ran out of coffee but had tea and more so my morale and attitude was maintained. Never over estimate the effect a good soup or misto can give you. Now, even when hiking, I pack enough for 4-6 days minimum in dried packs and loose mix.. I does not weigh much, and is real peace of mind if the weather turns. Nice to have a choice too to eat in the evening.

I've watched perhaps every single video, gaining knowledge, thanking past people and experiences for showing their sharing of knowledge and training is backed up by your experiences so often, and one thing I want to pass on is the need to let people know that counting on accurate weather reports can get you killed if you are not prepared. So many people bring gear that is right on the edge, depending on weather forecasts as rock solid and then face adverse conditions their gear was not appropriate for. Primarily, the wrong insulation/weather blocking gear, whether it be the shelter, sleeping setup, or clothing. In this video you were expecting bad weather yet early on it was gorgeous. Accurate weather for specific locations and times is still scientific guesswork. Definitely check the reports, but prepare for worse conditions than the reports may indicate! Thanks Luke, for all the enjoyable and educational videos!

Not sure if it's the same in the USA but here in UK you can count on deciduous trees to tell if it going to rain, the leaves on the trees point to the ground if rain on the way and the older the tree the more reliable.. it works too. My grandad bless him knew the weather before the weatherman . nature is not just beautiful it's clever.

We did a lot of camping in Oklahoma, where the wind comes sweeping 'cross the plain and the ground is a rocky pain... I use 12 inch timber spikes for tent stakes. They never pull out, even in the highest winds Oklahoma had to offer. I originally started using them to make staking out my tent easier. It was impossible to get those cheap aluminum stakes driven into the ground, because of the insane amount of rocks. Hasn't been an issue since. Ever!!

After watching Luke for sometime now it seems like he considers food as a necessary nuisance and doesn't want to waste to much time, space or weight on carrying it. But his coffee now that's a definite must have!😊 I would have taken at least a couple of those meals and alot more snacks, but Luke counts his broccoli 🥦 spears 😂 and brings 4 and thinks that's plenty! Hi Luke, first of all you have forgotten more than I'll ever know about backpacking...but, I never use a full ridge-line either over or under the tarp. My experience with running a full ridge-line is (1) when it rains and a line is under the tarp, the rain will flow down the line and drip into the interior; and, (2) a full ridge-line uses too much line. If I want to hang items up in my tarp, I simply turn the tarp "upside down" so that the guy out points are inside the shelter, to which I hang my wet clothes, lights and whatever else strikes my fancy. Keep up the good work. Your vids are very informative.
@nicklawrence2707 Жыл бұрын
@@squirrelcovers6340 maybe true, Squirrelcovers...but to me, knots are over-rated at camp...my set-up requires one knot (bowline) at the tree end (loop thru bowline and insert a toggle), then line lock hooks at the tent or tarp end to provide line adjustment. One line at each guy-out point. Does anyone use ridgelines anymore?.

Wise decision not to eat something questionable. In all the years our family went camping, we never succumbed to food poisoning. My folks were always careful to ice everything down, and get more ice before things thawed out, unless it was time to eat the items thawed. My mom even froze cracked open whole eggs/yokes so that we could have fresh eggs for breakfast a couple of mornings during our 7 day week campouts! She froze lots of our food, and the food became the ice packs! She was very clever. WE kept the ice chests under the pick nic tables, packed in the shadiest part of the campsite underneath thermal blankets to keep the chests really cold too. WE camped in July and August! WE usually did not need ice until the 4th day. You would have been impressed with my Mom's outdoor camp kitchen! A coleman 2 burner stove, plus a grill over the campfire! She really had things set up with how to wash the dishes too. She made hot H20, had a tub to wash and rinse tub too. WE used paperplates for the most part. She had spices too. Believe it or not Luke, but my mom also made homemade potatoe salad, she brought and also fresh fruit salad, and even fresh tossed green salad!! We did eat Hamburgers and hotdogs but also had healthy stuff too. WE had oatmeal for breakfast at least twice during camping week, and eggs and potatoes and either bacon or sausage a couple times too. We had cold cereal and milk twice a week, and break up camp day, we got to out for breakfast. We had lunch at the campsite pretty much 5 days a week and two lunches out. Dinner same way. Mom was a planner. With four kids and 2 adults camping for 6 nights 7 days one has to plan. We had the dog too. What I remember most, we had fun, even when it rained. Dad had the whole place tarped out from the tents to the picnic table and even had ground cover for walkways from the tents to the picnic table--we were not going to get rained out! WE went twice a year, once in July and again in August every year. WE had a blast. My favorite time of the year was camping with my family. WE loved it. We were spoiled because we camped at campgrounds with hot and cold running water and it was a hike to the flush toilets!! LOL But we were tent camping all the way! Once in a while we did the primitive camping where we dug our own latrines--and had to lug in our own water, and it was a wild place, and it was crazy camping. I mean crazy as in crazy out of control people would come around too. But we made out okay. Thanks for reminding me of those times. Blessings.!

Great for scuba and snorkelling which I did in Greece this summer but recently I fell off a ladder and this was detected by the watch and would have sent an emergency call out if I had not said I was ok . I was impressed with that feature and see the value especially when out on a hike where there is treacherous terrain .
