I wasn’t aware they made a 4x4 with the 4 cylinder, + the manual transfer case is just awesome.

I have a 94 ford ranger single cab, short bed, 2.3, 5 speed, manual transfer case 4x4, manual locking hubs, manual windows, no a/c. Really cool truck that’s why I bought it. I was able to get a 8.8 torsen out of a fx4 level II rear end with 4.10 to replace the 7.5. Thanks for the info

That's pretty cool like a sleeper Tacoma SR5 with slightly better MPG. Got mine 2WD 4cyl for max mpg & easier to maintain, actually some of these were available running when I got mine but who knows FB marketplace is pretty annoying.

It's awesome that you keep finding these models kicking around. I'm in the process of trying to find a low mileage 2.3 to restore and keep going as my everyday after my current ranger passed on. I have a question for you sir. My truck has an issue. When it's a cold start, it turns over and runs for a few seconds until it dies unless I press on the gas pedal in which it will keep running. If I let go of the pedal, it will die. If I hold it for about a minute it will be able to idle, but roughly. It will also give out white smoke, droplets, and gas fumes out of the exhaust. This stops after it has had time to warm up and drive around. My research has indicated it could be a bad fuel injector that is causing this. With your experience with rangers, would you suspect as well it could be caused by bad injectors? Thank you sir. Dave

Do compression test to make sure engine is mechanically in good shape, if it's got good compression pull codes and go from there.

Hi . . . how are you doing? I hope that you're doing very well. I watched some of your videos and I can tell that you are definitely a very knowledgeable mechanic when it comes to those old school foods. I was wondering in your years of experience with older Fords & Mercury. I have a '95 Mercury Disable. Which I used to say it was a Sable, but it seems to don't want to stay running. I've had the old car engine cuts off suddenly. So, I bought a new ingnition control module, distributor stator, distributor cap, rotary button, IAC, MAF sensor, ECM brain box, starter, alternator, etc., etc., etc. I also put 2 fuel pumps in it. I'm about to put a 3rd fuel pump in, because this one isn't priming but I think it may be due to a bad crank shaft position sensor. I read a online comment that said the crank shaft sensor was also responsible for starting the fuel pump. Which I bought the crank shaft sensor about 6 months ago but I never could find it on this particular 3.0 liter model. I know the sensor's magnet usually sits by the timing chain teeth, and it's held in with 1 or 2 bolts. But you can't see the timing chain on this particular 95' 3.0 liter Mecury Disable, due to the timing chain cover. Did you ever discover if the 3.0 liter engine of the 95' GS Mercury Disable 4 Door truly had a crank shaft position sensor? I read some online comments that said it didn't have a standard one. Then some comments said the crank shaft sensor was actually the disributor shaft (stator), and then went on to say that the cam shaft sensor was at the bottom of the distributor shaft. Which to me, sounded kind of odd in a way. Some comments said the crank shaft sensor is right beside the distributor shaft, to the right of the screw & washer which holds the distributor in place (however, this 3.0 liter didn't have it right next to the distributor screw ). I wonder is it unseen because it may be behind the timing chain cover? It's seems like Ford & Mercury made different versions of the old 3.0 liter where certain key parts like the crank shaft position are located in a totally different area. Looking at your videos, I said wow this gentleman knows a lot about those old ford motors. It's been hard finding mechanics who knew, or could remember where the crank shaft sensor is on this old 95 Mercury Disable. I was wondering if you know, and if so, could you please help point me in the right direction of where else to look. Because I'm so lost, and lately I've been seriously contemplating about admitting this Mercury Disable to "The Senior Old Ford Home For Mercury Disables." I appreciate you so much Mr. Every Day I Race. Thanks Kimberly

I've never owned a 3.0 anything. Step 1, stop taking advices on the internet, 90% is false, majority of people don't have ability to say "I don't know "....if they have no idea. You're better off buying a service repair manual or you can get online service manual from something like Mitchell online emanual. Have you tested the fuel pumps that you've replaced? If the pump is working if you connect it to 12v battery, there's no point in replacing it, if the pumps are bad, find a different place/brand. Most cars that have a distributor don't have crankshaft position sensor. 95 taurus with a 3.0 not sho has a ccrm that controls many things including the fuel pump, look at the connector, I've seen those go bad from age.

Thank you for your advice. I definitely will do that. I honestly think I may of been talking to some mechanics with a very unfortunate memory lapse on whether they replaced a crank sensor on those older models, maybe it's been too long ago. Thank you for letting me know that most cars with a distributor don't have a crank shaft position sensor. Also, I will definitely learn to test fuel pumps as well. I appreciate that insight . . . best wishes to you. @@everydayirace

i have a 1997 ranger and i won't turn on at all had been just parked for about 12 years and so a mechanic replaced battery, fuel pump, spark plugs along with its cables, and a blown fuse. Now the truck turns on but does not stay on, it will turn off, What can it be?
@everydayirace11 ай бұрын
Well first thing I'd find out which fuse was blown and find out why it was blown. 2nd I'd check 3 things that make engine run, compression, spark, and fuel, if you lose 1, the engine won't run. 3rd, I'd check exhaust to make sure it isn't clogged by removing upstream o2 sensor. You can also scan for codes and watch live data with a scanner.
