Megaman EXE it does remind me of sonic rush (i wasnt CRAZY about that game). it's just that later on in the game it gets less about going fast to the goal and more about figuring out how to proceed. i don't think it's BAD...just kind of "meh"

So, this game was originally designed for PS4/xbone on Cryengine. While showing it at E3 Sega told everyone (including the dev team) that the game was going to be released exclusively on WiiU, a console that Cryengine doesn't even run on cleanly. Part of the reason it's so bad is because they had to rush to try to port it to WiiU on a really tight time scale, because Sega never learns their lesson about rushing Sonic games. I almost bought this way back when, and I'm glad I didn't. It's just a shame because the E3 footage looked really pretty and a lot more fun by comparison.

GeneralGodzilla1 Not really. Unlike this game, Sonic 06 looked fine for a game from 2006. This game is from 2014 and doesn't even look on par with a game from the PS2 era. (Note this: I'm not even a graphics whore, it's just this game's issues are so glaring that I just have to address it.) Sonic 06 also had a kickass soundtrack that still holds up today and the CGI cutscenes alone were miles ahead of Boom's gameplay. Also, at least 06 had a steady framerate that didn't drop because of certain elements of the game. Lastly, Sonic 06 had a development schedule that was rushed due to Microsoft's carelessness. BRB had 3 whole years with $20 million dollars under their belt to at least make Boom decent and they couldn't even manage that. And the staff getting a massive exodus isn't a valid reason because they probably left due to knowing how bad the game actually is. And before you say I'm a troll or a random Sonic fan who's condescending, I'm not. And if it comes off that way, I apologize. I'm just a regular fan who wants to see the series grow along with its fanbase. For now, that's only a dream.

***** Actually..yes 06 had way more frustrating gimmicks(ball puzzle anyone), ultra-precise controls, horrible gameplay styles (Amy, Silver to name a few) and a lot of slowdown due to *certain elements of the game* which Boom surprisingly doesn't have. Shall I also mention how much enemy smashing you have to do in 06 which slows levels down to a crawl? Or how the cutscenes sucked? At least Boom when it came to cutscenes was well animated and featured some of the best voice acting in a Sonic game to date. I could go on. Additionally, I want to know why the "It's Microsoft's/Sony's fault that 06 was rushed" argument still exists. It's not true. Sega rushed the game for the 15th anniversary of Sonic. It had nothing to do with MS or Sony. Furthermore how do you know the mass exodus at BRB happened because "they knew the game was going to suck" and not other reasons like pay cuts? $20 million means fuck all if you're not getting payed well. I'm getting tired of people assuming I'm going to call them a troll or a condescending Sonic fanboy. That's not what I do nor will I ever do. You didn't appear that way so why would I throw around ad hominem attacks like that? It only looks like you're misinformed. Like you I'm a regular fan who thinks they need to give the blue blur a break and be consistent with the franchise. I want this series to be back on top but the way things are now, it's unlikely. This game is on a scale of meh to bad, no question but I don't think it's 06 bad.

Fun fact! I actually own this game, never played it. It always gets to 50 something percent downloaded, then the file corrupts, making me have to do the whole song and dance to re-download it again. Even with multiple different SD cards.

What's even more appaling is that the title of the game itself is a ridiculously obvious pun on an iconic element of the Sonic Universe. Sonic Boom is the name of the opening song for the American version of Sonic CD. The Japanese version has the famous Tutu Sonic warrior in the lyric. So when they say Rise of Lyric, they're referring to the song, not to the villain. To name the snake Lyric was just lame. It shows how much thinking went into producing this game: zero.

actually that is the reason why it stutters and hiccups big red button had to manhandl the CryEngine to get it to work the CryEngine was never optimized for the Wii U the system has to render the game twice one for the TV screen and the other on the gamepad as a result the game runs at 720p during gameplay and during cutscenes it runs at either 480P or 360P I can't tell which

I'm still going to keep drawing comparisons to Silver the Hedgehog from Sonic '06 on this. Repetitive, mind numbing combat which has you doing the same things OVER and OVER again (thankfully, you start off rather competent and don't have to pimp slap anything) but you don't grow (much) over the course of the game. Silver can boast even that (that ground pound stun rocks), and that just brings the game to a crawl. Furthermore, they're equally as fast as Silver, mach speed sections aside, and this game's just BORING. I played through Shattered Crystal. It's okay. Not great, but okay. I had a modicum of enjoyment in that one.

I absolutely loathe this game. Not just for being awful, but for grinding Sonic's reputation to dust for a second time. Sure, Lost World wasn't great but it was at least okay. Now Sonic has absolutely no respect thanks to a game that wasn't even made by Sega. I love the classic games, Generations and Colors were great, and I think the Adventure games were at least half good, but this game and '06 have basically shifted the perspective of everyone. Now people say the Adventure games were terrible, Colors was okay at most, and Generations was a fluke. Hell, now people are doubting that even the classic games were any good. So thank you Big Red Button, you've officially put the final nail in the coffin of a gaming icon.
