Big fan from Australia mate, just bought the Kings of War Goblins. Would love to see you do a goblin painting video, of the mantic ones anyway i know you have painted a gobbo before. Keep up the great work!

Regarding the bases; I'm glad to see that Mantic continues their honourable tradition of creating a product the is 90% great; but with one weird design decision that leaves me scratching my head. Having seen their more recent releases, I was getting worried that they's moved on to absolutely nailing their kits. 😍 That's a great paint job you've given them.
@SonicSledgehammerStudio3 жыл бұрын
So close to perfect, right? 😅 But the miniatures themselves are nice, so I'll let that slide.

Most kings of war players will be dumping the bases and multibasing anyway.

Some of the early mantic minis were pretty rough, so make sure you read reviews before you buy any of their models. That said, all of their new units I've seen are fantastic. Their zombies are a fantastic deal and are very easy to paint, and the goblins have lots of character. I'll probably grab some more of their undead in the future too
@SonicSledgehammerStudio2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, the earlier kits are a little more work to assemble, I've found... but like you, I've been happy with the newer releases. I'm especially keen on the look of those halflings!
@beaushaver37793 жыл бұрын
You are correct when you say individual model removal is not a mechanic of kings of War. In kings of War troops are purchased in blocks of 10, and wounds accumulate on blocks of troops as they fail armor saves or succumb to magic etc. Each wound essentially lowers their leadership and when the unit fails its nerve test the whole unit is removed at once as morale gives out and they scatter.

Amazing! I just ordered the War in the Holds box set which I will split with a friend and this video will be perfect for painting my half of the box. To top it off I already have all the paints you used in the video. Excellent video and most Excellent timing. Thanks so much for this and your other excellent videos

Talk about serendipitous! :D I hadn't seen any other painting guides specific to Ratkin anywhere, so it seemed a happy coincidence to be able to get in with something for folks finding these guys for the first time.

Thanks for another great painting tutorial. As for the Mantic bases... You could always glue very thin plastic card, that easily cuts with scissors, to the top of the base. It covers the hole but doesn't really add to the base's height. Even thin card stock paper, like an index card, would work.

Aye, good shout. There's plenty of ways to fix the issue, it's just something that surprised me a little to find and it seemed like it'd be worth pointing it out to any other newcomers to these juuust in case. But yeah, easy solutions abound!

Well timed, I have just assembled mine and like others I was just deciding on paint colours when you nailed it. Thanks Mate as always good content timed to perfection. I to would like to see your take on Mantic goblins sometime.
@SonicSledgehammerStudio3 жыл бұрын
A couple of people have mentioned the goblins now, so it's on the cards. It'll be a little bit before that point - I've got some more rats to get through, after all! - but yeah, little green buggers are another quick force to paint.

I started doing the wash and then highlight around a year ago, just discovered it by accident now in the past week I've seen at least two or three serious KZbinrs doing it in their videos - I guess that means I officially don't suck at this!
@SonicSledgehammerStudio3 жыл бұрын
Sometimes it works a little better to highlight with something really sharp before washing, but yeah! Depending on what you're doing, highlighting afterwards gets a slightly different result you might prefer. There's no single right answer!

Why find new/alternative bases when you have heaps of unwanted SPRUE? Chop and trim a bit or two of the sprue to fill the gap and makes a better connection to the base/paws 👍😊👌

For the Mantic bases the bevel is so subtle I just flip them over - but yeah the circular indentation is a pain.
@SonicSledgehammerStudio3 жыл бұрын
It's one of those things that has a pretty simple solution, but I figure if there's only one minor thing to point out that I didn't like, that's a kit not doing too badly. Especially if it's only the bases! 😂
@MunchKing867 ай бұрын
I have to ask: How do you tackle moldlines? Do you just leave them be? Do you scrape specific (visible) areas? Do you scrub the whole model top to bottom? I got these guys a while back, but the amount of cleanup each of them requires is driving me up the wall.
