I've found your tutorials to be a bigger help to me than the Warhammer TV ones. You show off the brush strokes and explain the reasoning behind certain techniques, which has helped me push my painting skills a bit further. I'm still struggling with paint thinning though, I can never seem to nail the consistency correctly and everything ends up looking either too thick or too thin when dried. But yeah, thank you for making these.
@SonicSledgehammerStudio6 жыл бұрын
Thanks, bud! I worry on occasion that these are a little long, but to my mind half the point is in being able to explain the reason why you'd use a certain technique while demonstrating it. Once you've got a grip on Why, other stuff starts to make a lot more sense, and you can start tweaking things or trying different things that might work in its place. Thinning paint is a bit of a pain in the neck across Base, Layers and the like - to say nothing of the consistency of other company's paints as well, which require different consistencies entirely - but you'll get there with practice. :D

I have only just got back into miniatures and so far browsed KZbin for ideas on colour schemes for my stormcast. Love the teal armour and have started using your guide thank you 😊

Just painted my first miniature the other day, a Stormcast, and I have to say that I enjoy your videos because they are abit longer and you describe abit more deeply how and why you do things. Thank you for your guides, I will be coming back for more. :)

Very nice tutorial and I've seen alot! Clear and concise with nice humour too. Thanks and I look forward to watching more

I used this color scheme for my Farstriders and my Warcry Vanguards. Only difference is I made one of the knee pads white as well and used some thinned seraphim sepia to recess wash the white bits to make them stand out more. Thanks so much for the armor color scheme.

Excellent tutorial! I like this color scheme, it is a nice change from all of the gold armor. Thanks for sharing this.
@SonicSledgehammerStudio6 жыл бұрын
I'm inclined to agree. Much as I do love the Hammers of Sigmar - I'm a sucker for blue and gold, honestly - there's something to be said for that slightly less grandiose, lacquered appearance to the Stormcast armour. Plus, these guys? You're going to see them from across the gaming table, no problem!

I always love watching your videos. I learn something every time.

Thanks! I try to make sure there's a little something different in all of them, even if some of the basic material gets repeated. The idea is always that someone should be able to pick up from a single video rather than having to watch the whole run to get up to speed. :)

I like that scheme a lot. I think I might want to steal that teal for my Alpha Legion.

I always did like the Blue of these guys, I might use the technique for for painting some Alpha Legion.

I hadn't even thought of Alpha Legion! I was wondering how this would look on Terminators or something similarly sized, but that could be interesting to see on some Chaos Marines...

You probably wont answer because this vid is 4 years old, but I wanted to ask what primer you are using? I've used Mcraccge Blue by Citedel, and when I apply sotek green, the armour looks brighter that yours. This vid really helped me get motivated to paint my dominion box, so thanks a lot.
@SonicSledgehammerStudio2 жыл бұрын
Comments still arrive chronologically. ;D The primer here is still Macragge Blue, so if your Sotek Green is going on brighter, it could simply be the difference in lighting or that yours hasn't had a shade yet?

'Good enough for army work,' as the saying goes! :D I'm tempted to finish off a unit of five of these guys to see how they look on the table, because this was so easy to do.
@veramoore15725 ай бұрын
Love this teal! I'm wanting to use this for my new skaventide box! I dont have a blue primer though. Would you recommend starting with black or grey? And would you toss the sotek green straight on or do a blue over the primer still?

Fantastic tutorial. I love the look and color variation of the Stormcasts, but I don't play Age of Sigmar, and am not familiar with colors and/or rank. Is there a source I can browse to see the color variations and ranks?
@SonicSledgehammerStudio5 жыл бұрын
The colours represent different Hosts of the Stormcast, similarly to Space Marine Chapters. As for ranks and such, I'm honestly not sure! It usually seems that 'more gold = more boss,' but don't quote me on that one. The best place to check would be the Stormcast Battletome, or try aosshorts.com/ for some general information. Dan does good work, he might know the answer better than me!

Iinteresting aproach, I've never seen anyone drybrush first and wash the mini afterwards. Looks great tho, I'm gonna steal that teal recipe for my tyranid army.

Those leather parts are known as Pteruges. Pronounced (I think) as Ter-oo-gees. P is silent I think. My missus is gonna love this one as she's been after a good teal recipe for her minis. Once again I salute you sir!

Nice, but how did you paint the base and what material did you use? They look simple but great! Close to the once gw makes. :)
@Templarboi6 жыл бұрын
Looks amazing, especially the white and the highlights on the teal. Also, the base looks neat as well, it's armageddon dust with agrax/seraphim shade and ushabti bone drybrush right?
@SonicSledgehammerStudio6 жыл бұрын
This base is a bit darker, actually. No shades on this one! I used Stirland Mud, then a heavy overbrush of Golfag Brown and Tyrant Skull to finish it off. Dryad Bark around the rim and you're sorted. I figured something a bit darker and more atmospheric would suit these guys.

In NZ there must be lots of old GW stock (prices?!). There is no longer Sotek Blue. I think Baharoth blue replaces it, but it looks different to me, maybe its not Thousand sons blue?

I might have named it incorrectly - Sotek Green is still available on the German webstore, at least.

Quick question, did you prime it with some sort of blue spray? Or did you start painting on one of the blue plastic Stormcast figs like the ones in the Shadespire set? I haven't seen many vids of people starting on bare, unprimed plastic.
@fredoman13236 жыл бұрын
I think I know the answer: www.games-workshop.com/en-US/Citadel-Basecoat-Spray-Macragge-Blue Just making sure :)
@SonicSledgehammerStudio6 жыл бұрын
That's the one! I mention 'undercoating' but I think I could be clearer that I mean a primer spray or something along those lines. I do mention black or grey as alternatives, but starting from blue in this case is a whole lot simpler.

Nice and good! :P Coelia Greenshade is becoming one of my fave shades now. But I notice from the list Agrax Earthshade is missing. I cannot believe you managed another model guide without it! Heresy!
@SonicSledgehammerStudio6 жыл бұрын
I know! I looked at the red for a while before deciding to stick with Nuln Oil. I figure for a starting guide to these guys, being able to skip one shade you're going to use once is a net positive for a newcomer... but damned if it didn't feel unusual not reaching for my Earthshade. :

I didn't, in fact. Not yet, anyhow. I couldn't find them locally to me when I went looking and thought I'd have a peek when next I hit up a bigger city or a different hardware store. Now it's gone and hit winter so the heat kicked off by the other bulbs is actually quite nice! :D
