Man, this is probably one of my favorite style reviews. You have outdone yourself with the B Roll shots, color grading and audio editing too. I literally fell in love with how you made this video. Slog 3 is amazing to color grade in with this camera as one can see in this video btw.

For me the most important thing a7 IV got right is its color finally is up to my taste. Whether it's with camera matching profile, or using color fidelity's profile(which I highly recommend anyone with a sony A7 IV to trying out.) Sony's got color right on track, updating its flagship zoom lenses. Everything I had asked for when I compared my CaNikon to my sony 1 year ago is getting into our hands and it's the best time to have this in your kit, or soon to be.

The reason the IV has breathing compensation while the FX3/A7Siii do not is likely for technical reasons. Specifically, the IV is oversampling the 33MP sensor to achieve a 4K image and does so via a crop so they can use the extra pixel bins to correct for the breathing (whereas the 12MP sensor in the FX3A7Siii does not have a crop in 4k and doesn't have those extra pixels to compensate for the breathing).

It’s because Sony is designing smaller and more compact lenses that come with a trade off.. major breathing.

@@Princeton_James as someone who's owned Sony's and recently got an S5 (last year, before the A7IV was even announced) I would say the eye focusing issues are still a step ahead of the S5. I found myself disappointed in the AF for my content (automotive) due to lack of consistent focus and slow focusing. I borrowed a friend's A7iii and 70-200 GM and was blown away at how good it still was.

Am with Sebastian PB, I really like your style of review Manny. The production value, the clarity ... you really help us make an informed decision based off of your real world experience with the gear. Plus your camera presence is authentic...you're not trying to imitate another reviewers style that's not you. I see a number of newbie reviewers who try to imitate Peter McKinnons amped on coffee pizzazz and it goes flatline, they lose me even if they have good or even great content. That Sony cripple hammer though. One of the things I hate the most are their dated LCDs, even on their $5000 and $7000 A7SIII and A1. I do like the 30 MP sensor. I shot that on the 5DIV and EOS-R for many years and it's almost the perfect resolution. That overheating problem is something that many of the paid youtubers try to hide on the Sonys. It's good to see that Manny tells the truth all the time.

You're a great videographer and storyteller, and your set ups are insane! SONY A7IV ONE DAY REVIEW: What I like: This camera sees in the dark, fantastic autofocus even with the god awful chunk of plastic that is the LA-EA5, Zero noise til ISO12400 if you overexpose 0.7 stops, riddance of the "35mm full frame CMOS image sensor" badge on the orange ring, good compressed 12 bit raw for photos that don't require much editing (since you're going to very likely use burst mode in perfect lighting conditions), beautiful off-camera images What I don't like: No Aperture preview, Lack of buttons, Viewfinder looks pixelated despite being 2.5K; 1 million dot higher res than the sony A77II's EVF, and resolution reduces to 1080P when you use 120fps refresh rate. This coupled with the very inaccurate focus peaking makes manual focusing a chore. Grip's pinky part is too large and makes the joints hurt, camera is too lightweight making a bad balance with any high aperture or large zoom lens, god awful screen quality (image and build quality), The fact they could have used A77II's same screen and it would be better even if it had no touch function makes me really mad, No Geotag, No Flash sync port, there could be room for a top view liquid glass LCD like old SLR cameras. People bish about it saying it just covers up lack of buttons, but I really appreciate keeping a look on my camera's parameters without having to use a screen that drains thirty times more battery. All in all it's a camera that I like as far as the results go but I don't like it as far as ergonomy goes.

I sincerely hope that, as a photography first camera, the A7RV doesn't go down the flippy screen route. I get that a lot of hybrid and video creators love it, but having used it on the X-T4 and X-S10, I hate it. When shooting below waist height having to fold it out like origami every time i want to look down at my screen, it's just slow. Embracing the tilt on 2 axes approach of the Fuji X-T2/3 and it looks like the new Nikon Z9 would be my preferred route.

I am also in the group, and it is true. I own the camera. And I'm disappointed. I hope there is a firmware update soon. I'm over 30 days and can't send it back. I only discovered the problem by accident. You can also read about it on the B&H website under the reviews. If you have the small green square on the eye, it usually hits the eyebrow. Or the eyelashes are sharp but not the iris. Sony has already confirmed the problem in private emails. I wrote there too. I've been shooting with Sony for years; this camera is a significant upgrade. Have a A/IV myself, tried with 35mm f/1.4, 55mm f/1.8, 85mm f/1.8, 90mm f2.8 and there are definitely focus-issues. The camera is not permanently front- or back focusing, but even with Eye-AF and AF-C, the selection-algorithm fails. As soon as there are strong (often vertical) contrast areas, or lines the AF prefers to focus on those parts in the frame even with the green focus frame clearly being on the eye. So, the camera is dead sharp, but it "internally" selects wrong parts for adjusting rather than the one in the focus frame. Took some selfies on a tripod, focus clearly on the eye, but often "real internal" focus was on the the black and white hairs of my beard, sometimes back focusing, sometimes front focusing. Hairs distract the camera, but also gray lines on buildings, or vertical borders of doors or windows. It's clearly a flaw in the internal focus selection logic. Had lots of portraits with different very good lenses with slightly blurry eyes but only with this camera (others work fine with same lenses). Hope they come up with a firmware upgrade soon
@SusheelChandradhas
@SusheelChandradhas 2 жыл бұрын
Could it be this scenario? The camera puts the green box around the eye as it recognises it, but focuses on the closest object within that box. This could be the tip of the eyelashes... So, if the depth of field is really shallow, the eyelash tip would be in focus, but the eye itself out of focus. Not sure how that would explain the back-focusing though... Curious to hear your thoughts.

Hey, it's that Canon troll from Cincinnati. Well... After multiple overheating long form interviews with my R5s and shooting 80/20 photo and video, I'm one of the last to switch. I rarely shoot jobs with crews but this one had a director and I was putting my R5s in the refrigerator between interviews. When Canon released the R5C it felt like a smack in the face. Had they done a recall program where you trade in your R5 for the R5C I probably would have stuck around but it only left me bitter. When a car has massive issues they fix it. Canon just made a Frankenstein fix for even more money. After seeing all the upgrades on the A7IV I knew it was finally time. I almost pulled the trigger on the A7III but the EVF was shit, no touch screen, color science was fine but still was a tough pill compared to Canon, the menu was super foreign and if you’re used to those things with Canon it wasn’t an easy switch. A7IV is a mini R5 and made to cater up anyone on the fence. So yeah, I’m the stubborn old canon shooter that finally switched. Love the channel. ✌🏼

I connected the HDMI port from my Sony A7 IV to a 4K TV, i see it well, everything all ok. But if I shoot myself eg. Vlog I have everything reversed on the TV screen. This it a big problem for me. I have to discover out how the 'mirror' + 'reverse' mode so that i can see the movements in the correct direction on the TV.

The overheating thing nearly made me send it back.... But thankfully you can change it in the menu not to shut off at low temps and it seems fine .. goes for a long time then. After a while of using it my only downside was the viewfinder lowers Res when you are tracking with a half press.... So annoying... And the back screen as tradition has it is horrible so I barely use it. That aside though, I love the camera. I would have preferred to get an A1 but I need my kidneys (it is 10 grand in Australia)
