For anyone wondering why the A7S iii chose to have 12MP, it's because as Matti said each individual pixel can be bigger which is what you would want because that means that more light can enter each pixel giving you that insane low light capability. Think of each pixel as a bucket, so the bigger the bucket the more light can go in it and then you can have some extreme good low light. The disadvantage however is that you lose sharpness the bigger your pixels are so it's a trade of between sharpness and lowlight capabilities.

Moe Alyasini i’ve been running an a6400 for quite a while now. It is more than adequate for the photos I take and will stay as my photo/B cam. I definitely am primarily video, and honestly the A7S3 probably is more than good enough to take photos for thumbnails and Instagram
@moealyasini27844 жыл бұрын
Colt Capperrune i agree if the photo use is limited to that.. but as a portrait or wedding photographer.. 12 mp is not close to being enough for photo work.. (goes without saying landscape photographers are not gonna think about this camera at all) so that leaves this camera with very few photographers.. the R5 and A7siii should not be compared at all cuz they are 2 diff things.. the only reason people are comparing them is because Sony wanted to stop the bleeding R5/R6 is doing so they added some “photo” features such as AF etc.. but this is not a photo camera by all means unless we live in 2007 lol

I have a Nikon Z 6 and I'm happy with it, but this looks like a really amazing and fun camera for video. I would like to play with the high frame rate. You can also do quite a bit with 12 megapixel stills, especially since most people never print the majority of their photos.
@juanQuedo4 жыл бұрын
And even printed photos would look fine. I had the Nikon D3 and it was soo good. Maybe if you print a very detailed landscape at DinA2 or 50x70cm. But in general, for up to A3 or SrA3 it's fine.

@nerfbutt4 жыл бұрын
Agreed. 12 megapixels prints to a 14" x 9" @ 300dpi. Larger if you print to 266dpi (perfectly acceptable for a printing press). The extra resolution helps if you crop in a lot, such as for nature/bird photos, but generally speaking, 12mp is just fine, especially for web delivery. I've printed hundreds of posters, billboards, magazine ads and more using photos with less pixel density and they looked great.

The sony looks great but as a hybrid-shooter 12MP is just a bit too much on the low-side unfortunately.

Chico Unless you do large prints of your photos or crop too much, 12 mp is not that bad. It is basically a video beast camera which also shoots great photos at 12 mp.

@@mattih I'm mainly a Sony A7III video/hybrid shooter with a lot of Sony FE Primes and Zooms, I also use some Canon EF mount glass including the legendary 200mm F1.8L USM. I was hoping to get a good Canon Hybrid camera to use with the glass until I was given the reality of the photo and video Dynamic Range issues that Canon has been plagued with in DSLRs/Mirrorless let alone the overheating issues. I was possibly willing to deal with the R5's problems because of how sharp the images were but then the A7s III went beyond mine and my colleague's expectations. Video Dynamic Range is phenomenal, low light capability is what I needed for what I do on my free time (See Phillip Bloom's Vimeo Vid if you haven't) , and ProRes RAW was the cherry on top. So I'm willing to stick with Sony even if that means having to keep a camera for photo and a camera for video. Next thing you know the A7IV comes out it has 10 bit internal as well.

such a SOLID review. I think the low light test for all cameras needs to be "can you light it with a phone screen" haha - that stuff by theat Pond with Daniel was insane. Thanks so much for the great review man. Oh and the rolling shutter?!? WHATT! amazing.

little drawbacks: -no internal raw (i wish braw), -external pro pres raw is not real raw (you cannot change iso or white balance - look at The DP Journey review) -no 4K DCI (4096x2160) or anamorphic modes despite sensor has ability to do that.

4K, 6K, 8K or 12K...sounds all great but honestly, how much K can a human eye even see? I mean in there something like too much resolution?
@MrSUKH4 жыл бұрын
The biggest factor I ever wanted to have dynamic range as good as possible. Because that change your whole cinematography game. Glad we can use that dynamic range with 10 bit footage which was highly needed. And next thing is Cinematic color science. If these two are perfectly checked in this camera. We are damn good to go for music videos and short films. Because atleast with Canon I have seen till now, if offers good picture quality, but we can't push around much. And even if you do, it's very very hard to get Cinematic look like it use to be in films due to Canon's colors and low dynamic range.

"DONT BE DUMB" The a7siii punches every other camera in the mouth 😂😂😂, RED komodo dead before arrival. Can't wait to see what Blackmagic brings with their next pocket camera
@beardyboy81074 жыл бұрын
@@77dris well Gerald said specifically in his video that it depends on what you need though, if you just need to post for instagram, a7siii is already very enough, you don't really need high MP camera, but if you're landscape photographer and you need to print the image in large size keeping all the tiny details included, a7siii is not for you. So he's not dumb, he's just being realistic.

Komodo still has a massive audience. Small, punchy but the biggest thing, that raw codec. That is Reds trump card man, just ask Sony... that’s why they wanted it so bad....

The reason editing is difficult is because nvidia only processes 4:2:0 and 4:4:4....not 4:2:2. So if you use 4:2:2 the GPU isn't used and that bogs down the editing because it's all done with the CPU only. Shoot in 4:2:0 and you'll have no problems. (this issue may only be related to H265 4:2:2, so using H264 4:2:2 may not cause a problem)
