Unfortunately heat is a constant issue. Same reason gpus are getting bigger are cpu coolers are getting beefier. Chips get hotter

@@Jzwiz The Switch was the start of big portables though, and has active cooling unlike the PSP or Vita. As transistors get smaller, chips get more efficient and cooler as well. You can look at a handheld like the GPD Win 4 which is one of the smallest PC handhelds yet is more powerful than the steam deck. Switch 2 will likely be more powerful than the Steam deck but be smaller, half of the deck's size is from it's weird controller layout. In 4 years time we will have the technology to make a pretty powerful Vita sized handheld (if moore's law isn't dead, that is)

It might look a little weird blown up on a big TV with a PS5 or Xbox, but they haven't even put it on the Switch. It's a REALLY weird omission, especially since they re-released Chrono Cross.

I would be cautious with Sony. They abandon a lot of tech when it's not immediately successful and vita is probably the worst example of this. A handheld would have potential if it could play current gen stuff from their catalogue since I know they wouldn't create exclusive games for it but that would also price it around the ps5 cost or more.

The HD-2D style is amazing. There has to be an adequate rythm of releases, but they really struck gold with this. Fantastic way to bring their old games to a modern audience and give us old fans an excuse to replay them, and even finally get around to some we missed when we were younger (as I did with live a live and many dragon quest games)

It's not that special for the Xbox. That console just runs a version of Windows that has a console overlay. Like, right now the Xbox is running OS build version 26100.2910 and Win 11 is 26100.2454.

@Mordax227 Good point. Of course, there are various things removed from the console OS that you would normally have in typical Windows installs. This is both to save on storage and on boot time. Less OS overhead means more of the resources can be put into games. And these days, the OS is almost always running in the background. Super Smash Bros for 3DS is one of those rare situations where it required the 3DS to reboot when exiting the game because the game would use system resources just to work properly. This wasn't the issue on "new" 3DS systems because they had more power under the hood.

God damn I think a lot of YGO fans are going to be disappointed with the Early Days collection. Most of them wanted games like Forbidden Memories, Dungeon Dice Monsters and the like. Unfortunately it seems most of this collection with exception to Reshef and the Sacred Cards are the early world championship games. Basically this is to a Yu-Gi-Oh! fan what a Fifa Collection would be a to a Fifa fan getting Fifa 2000-2005 in one set.

Man, the PSP was God-tier back in the day. Small, chunky but robust, it was almost the perfect hand held that could compete with Nintendo. The problem was the button layout was awkward, there was only one thumbstick and it used proprietary media that could only be used with it and no where else. Still, nothing but fond memories with that. So a new hand held from Sony that once again compete with Nintendo but also Valve and Microsoft. Interesting times ahead.

HD2D is great for old remakes, but it would be cool to see new stuff too. Make an entirely new mainline DQ style game with it, not replacing the modern 3D, but being a sort of "secondary mainline series" of games on its own. Same thing for FF, make a new original FF game in HD2D that carries a more classic FF1-6 gameplay and tone to it. I think there's good potential there as well.

I wouldve suspected everyone to go the hybrid route since it caters to the people that want a stationary home console and the people who want a handheld. Thank goodness the other companies haven't done that. The Switch is cool but is essentially a glorified cell phone and everyone going that route would set the clock back 10-15 years with regard to fidelity. Most of the best games on the PS5 would not be able to exist in their current forms.

@@Combo7-y2h Gotta keep in mind that more than half of the games releasing on ps5 are also made for the ps4. Sure the switch is still lacking in performance to be compared to a ps4 by a quite a bit but ports like Ace combat, whilst definitely lacking in fidelity no doubt compared to the other versions, would suggest that its not that big of a set back. Dont forget that the switch uses architecture from over a decade ago, its bound to lack fidelity compared to newer consoles especially. So newer releasing hardware could match power of an Xbox series S or the likes. Which wouldnt be that big of a setback at all.

The digital physical split youre talking about is not an accurate measure of physical sales. Digital media is being released in larger numbers without a physical contingent meaning Sony's numbers are heavily skewed due to PSN, that split accounts for all games with an upfront cost. In my view, Sony not having any physical adaptation for their handheld for top money is a lackluster left-off feature. Its insurance that I wont buy it and just go to Nintendo.

This is the future. Ideally, I’d like for Sony to eventually get to a point where they just make one console powerful enough to be a home - handheld hybrid. And have the PS store available everywhere; on said console, PC, Mobile, Cloud, TV, etc. Have an ecosystem available to all and create /innovate with your first party ip and keep it exclusive to said ecosystem to draw ppl in it. Live service type games can be on other ecosystems.

The HD2D over saturation makes sense, anyone remember about 20 years ago when we had game after game of Star Wars and people got tired of them. You have to pace the games coming out too few people get bored, too many and people get burned out with all the releases. Some games would definitely benefit from the HD2D art style like some FF games, and other 8 and 16-bit titles, some like Lufia 1 & 2 would look good in the art style used in The Legend of Zelda: Links Awakening and The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom since the characters in Lufia already have that Chibi/Funko pop look to them.

Dude, getting all those Yu-Gi-Oh! games rerelease, ESPECIALLY Dark Duel Stories for me is AWESOME! Dark Duel Stories has one of the top graphics of any Game Boy Color game, and I’ve wanted to play it for YEARS because of this! So far the HD-2D experience has been balanced, there have been 4 original games and 2 remakes. Whilst I think we have a long list of games we would like to see remade that way it's not something SE can just flick a switch and out pops Chrono Trigger HD-2D, for example, it takes a lot of time and effort. Not flooding the market that way is sensible, not only will it help to keep up quality but also not kill that market. Continuing a balance of new and remade games is the way to go forward.

Yeah, I would absolutely buy an HD-2D take on Final Fantasy 6. I've rebought that game on so many platforms over the decades and the pixel remaster was great... but it would be nice to see it revitalized in a way that still feels authentic, maybe make the battle system a bit more involved and challenging, embellish the scenarios, towwns and dungeons some more in a cool way. Without overdoing it in some AAA remake trilogy that takes 30 years to finish. Something like that giant 3D mural they made out of Amano's FF6 art would be glorious, but it's never going to happen.

I’ve barely played any 2-D remake at all but everything I’ve seen looks so amazing and I played a little bit and it’s amazing. It’s like bringing back those old bit games to life again so I’m all for it.

That's not the point. The development market didn't make many games on the Vita. So there was no advantage of it. But this time periode could be different, as many developers need more money to earn on different platforms, for there own cost.

Sony needs to get a better game lineup - particularly better console exclusives - if they really want that hardware to be profitable for them. This isn’t the late 90s/early 00s. It’s getting harder to justify buying a 500 dollar system for a handful of games. That’s one area where Nintendo has the other two beat by a mile. Say what you want about the processing power and graphics, but the Switch has a diverse library of games. I would love to see Sony keep stepping things up in the exclusives/first party department.

Watching from a steam deck After using the Deck and seeing the size, he vita has A TON of room to grow Physically. At first glance the Deck seemed to be too cumbersome too awkward to be comfortable but in time it proved to be quite nice. if the Vita , whose design is near perfect was scaled up to steam deck size, all that extraroom they could surely build something great

The Yu-Gi-Oh collection is all the handheld games from Game Boy, Game Boy Color, and Game Boy Advance. Yu-Gi-Oh Forbidden Memories from the PS-One is not listed in the collection so it's all the handheld ones.

If the PlayStation handheld is still in early stages of planning, I doubt we'll see it come out 3 years from now. My bet is 4 or 5 years from now.

What if Sony's next alleged handheld is actually the PS6? Both Microsoft and Sony have watched Nintendo, Valve and other companies success with the Switch and other handheld devices long enough to be envious and want a big chunk of that pie. But at the same time, they can't simply leave the desktop console market behind just like that, so it makes sense they also go the hybrid console route. In any case, $300 is my top for any handheld. More than that and I'd be better off getting a Steam Deck.

I agree. The PS6 needs to be a handheld if Sony wants to compete with Nintendo in Japan. What Sony could do to differentiate is make a dock with a more powerful GPU, so playing the PS6 docked on a TV gives you more power. Essentially, keep selling consoles in parts. The handheld would be the lower-priced entry point, probably $400. A dock with a superior GPU could be $300. And of course, Sony could still sell the PS5 disc drive and just have it attach to the dock. Then, Sony can sell a $700 console without as many complaints. lol

They will never go with the vita branding again, it's got "failure" tag into it, they gonna go back to psp branding which is already the case with the PlayStation Portal.

I think the S2 may struggle a bit. There are so many Linux, Android, and Windows handhelds now, at all sizes, levels of quality, and levels of power, that you can travel with or hook to a TV. The S2 won't have any processing advantage over many of those. Now we hear Sony may be working on a portable. Microsoft has talked about a handheld. The S2 doesn't seem to do much more over the Switch than just present version 2 of it -- and its schtick is no longer novel. The only thing Nintendo will have going for it here is their first party games. And then you have the spectre of emulation -- it's possible the S2 could be emulated only a couple of months after its launch, not to mention any existing games that get an S2 upgrade could easily get the same or better through existing Switch emulation. There's tons of hype, but I don't see the S2 having long legs, at least not to where it would come anywhere near the Switch in comparing their first 2-3 years...

You completely forget that Nintendo has a hold on the audience of children and families . They aren't looking to play gritty shooters and the like. They just family fun and simple games, something the other two haven't really done since the PS3/360 days. That alone will sell their next console.

@@batmanbud2 It'll sell because of that, but probably not as much as Switch 1. The industry took the Switch idea and ran with it. Nintendo will survive, but will have to innovate in the early 2030s if they want to remain a powerhouse.

Now that we have that Yu-Gi-Oh collection that went up to world championship 2005 I can't wait for them to release another one that includes the rest of the games. For reference: those "World championship" tittles went up to 2011, so there's at least 4 to 5 Yu-Gi-Oh games from the Nintendo DS that are left over. 5D's people unite! Synchro Summon!!! Synchro Shoukan!!!

I believe Nintendo should release a TouchPad screen accessory to make the DS / Wii U games much easier to port over to the Switch or at least the Switch 2. Not sure why they haven't done this yet.

The Yu-Gi-Oh Early Days Collection will be a good game to pick up physically. It comes with a card not that I collect them anymore. I haven't collected them.since I was a kid back in 2004 or 5. Hopefully the game has online play.

The Microsoft and Sony handheld will probably actually be the next generation consoles. If not they will kill their own big consoles. I personally will still with the gaming handhelds and forget the big consoles altogether and wait for any of those games to be ported to the handhelds or PC

Sony will surely find ways to completely ruin every bit of anticipation I might have for a new handheld from them by putting a 500$ price tag on it or only allowing their headset to properly work with it or some other crazy nonsense.

I’m intrigued by the idea of a new Sony handheld, but don’t have high hopes for several reasons. First and foremost, cost. The PSP and Vita were not cheap systems at the time, and I rather doubt a new entry would be either. That said, the Vita was incredibly well engineered and ahead of its time in a lot of ways, so if they bring that kind of build quality to the device, it’ll be justified on that count at least. But that brings me to my second concern… The market is getting glutted with handheld PCs, rumors of handheld consoles from all three major manufacturers, and that’s not even mentioning the various retro emulation handhelds that have flooded the market ranging from the low to high end. Third, production of titles for both handheld and home. Whether you’re creating a downscaled build for portable, separate games for the different consoles, or some other approach you will end up cannibalizing your market and production costs to some extent. One of my concerns would be them taking the Disney+ approach like they did with their previous handhelds. Want to continue the story from God of War or Uncharted? You need this separate handheld! Finally, this is a personal note, but I was watching the Vita promo you popped up and realized just how few games end up on Playstation anymore that personally appeal to me enough to make me consider getting a system. That isn’t to say they don’t have amazing games, but very few of them push me to want to buy a console or handheld on their own merit based on my interests, and the few that do have been slowly making their way to PC, which is my preferred platform.

I don't have any hate for the artstyle but I gotta admit, I'm getting less impressed on the HD-2D artstyle with each game that it has. My guess as to why I'm like this is with the slower-paced genres that it's in. Not to say that it's bad (I don't even dislike it) but I guess I'm not getting the same impressions as everyone else. I'm most likely just longing to see it more on a faster-paced genre like a Metroidvania or heck, even a fighting game. The only exception to this is obviously with Star Ocean: Second Story R. It's the last HD-2D game that felt like a breath of fresh air to me.
