I have an SCX10 pro almost stock. I threw some voodoo KLRM at our local popular spot and my rig just bounced, wouldn't hook or perform. I traded them online to someone who said those tires were king in his area (Midwest) and he sent me my first set of megalithics. That tire with no other change made my rig run so much better. I think region and rocks can play an important role in your tire choosing. Someone once gave me some real good advise, go see what your performance crew locals are running and ask what they like.
@RoadsideRC12 күн бұрын
This is GREAT advice! Yes - exact terrain, setup, etc make a huge difference. I wonder if the tires you got also have the stock foams in them? Many folks have said these tires got a lot better for them when they swapped foams. Perhaps the stock foams aren't great.

There isn’t a sorrca tire ban list anymore. There are now standards for diameter and lugs that can get a tire ban. But no tires are banned because they are too good. If a tire was made out of garbage compound and had negative voids it would also be banned even though it sucks.

Correct, and megalithics meet the new requirements as far as I know
@davidbertrand706913 күн бұрын
@@scottoblander9419 they don’t. The negative voids in the tread make it illegal for sorrca use. That part of the rules was written in because of megas.

New tires rarely work better than ones that have 'worn in' some. I'd also imagine the stock foams, when new, just aren't the most compliant. With the exception of a certain proline tire....I am typically underwhelmed by any new tire once it's on the ground. After it's ran a little I can tell if it's going to work.
@RoadsideRC14 күн бұрын
Thanks for the feedback! I do get frustrated with the changing in foam performance over time. Certainly stiffer at first, and gets softer over time. It clearly means these will perform different throughout their life!

I personally think the Tusks are a better tire than the megas in my experience comping. Tires are a very difficult part to say one is better or best because of the different climates and terrains in the US or world for that matter. What a lot of my buddies run on the west coast is vastly different than what we run on the east coast and I find different tires like hyrax or krawlers perform better in the NE than central east coast. But I do appreciate your videos always! Jconcept tires also tend to do better once broken in a bit.
@RoadsideRC12 күн бұрын
Thanks! Coming soon is a test of the Tusks - and you are 100% right. They seemed to do DRAMATICALLY better than these.

I run Megalithics on my OG Ascent with soft printed inserts. They work significantly better than the stock tires with foams or printed inserts. I also have a bit of weight added so I get the squish needed to really take advantage of the tread. I'm basing this on the rocks here in Tennessee (they were perfect at Big Buddha's RC Ranch).
@RoadsideRC14 күн бұрын
Agree - I think the stock inserts were really holding these tires back.

@christophermears773814 күн бұрын
Think it depends on what type of terrain you're driving on. Not like the stock vanquish tires don't do so well here in Maine whereas those megalithic do do quite well. It's hard to take half of these rural organizations seriously when it comes to a sport that really doesn't have any rules

I run the Megalithics on my Redcat Ascent Fusion, Vanquish Fordyce and Phoenix. The Megalithics performed great for me. I am running the Proline dual stage foams. The stock Redcat ascent fusion tires is junk IMHO. The stock Vanquish tires was great but to me the Megalithics out perform them. I was at Barfield and could not make it up a particular rock with stock tires on my Phoenix so I switched the wheels and tires (Megalithics), on my Redcat Fusion and made it up the rock with no problems.

The 'Megalithic' being banned has more to do with tread design, not compound or effectiveness. Also, I dont find much value in an incline board. The board has no relevance to real life terrain so, the only measurement criteria that is important, is an actual test drive, like you did. I mean, a slick will likely outperform all of them on the board but not exactly ideal for crawling, lol 😂

@RoadsideRC Maybe you can just add some texture and some bumps to the board so the tire has something to conform to. Then you could still adjust the overall angle for testing. Great videos! Glad to see more crawler content.

Its the open lugs that got them banned instead of that they were actually any better than anything else. I cut some stock VRD tires and they actually perform way better than not cut. So I get your using the Ascent tires as an example.
