Junior’s an interesting character: he’s intelligent, experienced, perceptive( he new Christopher was a loose cannon from episode 1, constantly pointed out when Janice was causing shit, deduced that Livia manipulated him( though it’s not like she denied it), and correctly realized Tony was the safe play.) but at the same time his pride, narcissism and petty insecurities allow him to be easily manipulated . He would have been an excellent adviser or number 2, but the number one spot makes him to big headed, as season 1 showcased.

***** Albert's Cousin Larry was a Capo. Richie was feeling out how they felt about getting rid of Tony. Albert said that with his Cousin's trial coming up Larry wants to play it safe. What he was really saying was "We have always made money with Tony as boss, but I don't know that you could do any better." Richie told Junior about this meeting and Junior realized that the Capos don't "Respect" Richie; and Junior then told Tony about what Richie was planning knowing that Tony will reward his loyalty with more "Income" for himself. (7.5% of the action up from 5%).

It's important to remember that this was a sly, clever, extremely calculated decision on Junior's part. This meeting wasn't out of courtesy or respect to Tony, it was him taking stock of just how much of a loser Richie was in being unable to gain the capos approval. The show is so deliberately and perfectly written to suggest that Junior would have gladly gone along with Richie in moving against Tony had the meet been successful.

It blows my mind how complicated their relationship is. On one hand Tony see’s junior as a father to him, which in a lot of ways junior was Tony’s father, taking him to baseball games, playing catch with him it’s all there. On the other hand they’re complete business rivals who are at each other’s throats constantly for the first couple seasons. No wonder Tony had constant panic attacks, hes fighting with the man who he loves a a second father, while simultaneously fighting the woman his father married who also happens to be his mom lol.

I can kind of understand where Junior is coming from. He's made it to old age by being a conniving fuck, he's fighting for his own existence and because Tony is standing in his way. @SantomPh
@SantomPh 7 жыл бұрын
Everyone was loyal to Jackie Sr because he kept everyone happy by sharing the wealth and not allowing members to rob each other. When he died with no successor, Tony and the capos set the stage for a fragile arrangement with Junior as boss and Tony as street boss- this destabilized the family because Junior was a selfish bastard who didn't have respect while Tony was alienated from some of the others like Richie and Ralphie, with Christopher in the picture people started pulling teeth and claiming each others' pieces of the pie. Literally everyone was loyal to Carmine Lupertazzi Sr, but the moment he died NY went into civil war mode until Phil won. Even then, Phil let his ego and hatred destroy a good business arrangement. It's hard to establish loyalty the moment the unifying figure is gone.

Its true, And there are 2 reasons....Angelo and Joe demig from gotti became regulars on the sopranos. So #2-anyone who liked those guys in the sopranos would probabaly love the movie gotti. Its the connection. Plus I think the movie and the series fit so well.And truthfully, we are running out of mob movies. Anyone notice after the sopranos ended there hasnt been an epic mob movie made. I think they are history because all the new generation of gangsters are covert and down low. Scams instead of violence. So we are stuck with the same top 20 movies to watch and im getting sick of them. I watch the bios on each of the NY FAMILIES over and over because it takes me a week to go thru em. The iceman, roy demao,ron previte, joe pistone docs, and all those. But its getting old already. I just enjoy talking about the gotti movie because theres nothing to really watch on HBO anymore. I saw them all.

Richie clearly feared Tony because he knew he could be just as much a violent psycho as he could, but he knew Tony was smarter than him. Tony always had the reputation of being “boy wonder” so I think Richie went to Junior for help because Junior was known to be a clever and strategic captain. Problem is Junior used that same intelligence to betray Richie and get a better deal.
