I like how Inside Out portrays emotions. Like that one scene where Embarrassment hides Sadness is a VERY important detail. When some children grow up, they believe it's embarrassing to cry so they try to hide it.

I have a narcissistic father, I’m 25 now but was shamed for crying as a little little kid, I.e don’t be a baby, grow up, stop crying, toughen up, get over it etc. So from ages 5-17 I didn’t cry. Like my mom would even brag about it and tell my friends, and family. I thought I was a strong cookie for not crying and keeping things to myself, and had to learn to be strong enough to cry if I need to, and to speak up when I feel hurt by someone. It takes guts to be able to express yourself

The anxiety attack scene in Inside Out 2 really hit home for me. It brought me back to high school, during the state championship for football. We were losing, and I had an anxiety attack, because I thought the problem was me. My dad stepped in and helped calm me down, while I was being benched but we still lost that day. The scene captured that overwhelming feeling so perfectly.

Ye I think it is hard although I'm pretty sure it's a bit easier in 3d animation, since it's essentially having the models and placing a camera in the scene, as opposed to 2d animation where you would need to draw each part of the scene turning, in 3d your just moving the camera and also moving the focus of the shot.... @@vernessawashington9007 It is...but doing so during a panic attack when your sense of self is telling you you aren't good enough, you're worthless, you'll be alone...that's different from just slapping your forehead and going "doi, I can't believe i did that!" This does feel more...in line with self harm. It's a long way from what it could be, but it feels like the same type as when I hurt myself because, in that moment, I hate myself, and can't love myself. That's also something fairly taboo in a lot of family-friendly media.

No wonder this movie reached a billion dollars because it is an excellent, emotional follow-up to the first movie. I truly loved how they depicted Anxiety since even though she is the main antagonist, she still wants what is best for Riley, just like Joy did in the first movie without realising how much she was shutting out other essential emotions and hurting Riley. I also appreciate how they made Riley more of a relatable character while simultaneously following her feelings and learning that they don't control who Riley is. I hope they keep exploring new emotions in potential future sequels because there is still so much room to explore other potential emotions and relatable stages of life.

fun fact - the hockey sequence at the end was the first time Joy had been in control for the entire movie, and when she finally does it's beautiful. I think it's subtly hinting that she WAS right that you feel less joy as you grow up, but that it's still completely worth it.

I love how the Inside Out movies teach that all emotions are important and that no emotion is inherently bad but having excessive amounts of just one emotion can lead to unhealthy consequences. Like Joy only wanting Riley to be happy in the first movie and not letting her process other emotions and Anxiety in this one. Anxiety steering the ship hit so close to home for me. The anxiety/panic attack felt so real. Anxiety in my brain always seems to be in the tornado portrayed here. To the point where I am on medication for it. But also the massage chair thing at the end was so good at representing using the tools that my counsellor has taught me, breathing, meditation, safe space and so on. As much as I connected to the first film, this one made me feel so seen.

20:25 I've always seen it as: as you get older, your emotions become more nuanced, adding more under the umbrella of a "base" emotion like joy or sadness. It also helps explain why the Mom's mind is seemingly helmed by Sadness and the Dad's by Anger; it's not the base feeling we would inherently ascribe to that emotion, it's a more subtle variation that would fall under that emotional umbrella. And, of course, these nuances under an emotional umbrella can be positive or negative, especially when you delve into extremes. I'm no expert on anything on how the mind works, this is just how I see things, so take this with a grain of salt

I love that a movie, where a group of artists united to stop unjust treatment, released in 2024 likely to be one of the most consequential years in the entire history of the Animation industry. #StandWithAnimation One fact about the scene I also love is that 87, the first of the animators who stand against Anxiety, is designed based off of Ralph Eggleston, the oscar-winning Pixar animator who died in 2022 from pancreatic cancer; and who's work spanned from the first Toy Story to Soul.

I always imagine that the emotions maturing is meant to reflect Riley's age! Like, when Riley is a child, anger is just pure and simple anger. But as she grows, it includes being competitive. I think the ultimate version of Anger might also cover things like being protective of others (hence why Riley's father's lead emotion is Anger). Similarly, I imagine Sadness can evolve to cover being empathetic, which is why it is her mother's leading emotion.

The first one feels more for kids, teens, and adults understanding while the second one I feel like it hits more for teens and adults. Love the first one but this one hits harder for me especially when Anxiety made Riley say “I’m not good enough”. (The trick to cutting your own hair is you have to be confident enough to shave your whole head-that way you always have a backup if things turn out bad. Among other things like this movie hitting home for so many people, here's what I love about this movie. Riley is a flawed character. And that is the point. Speaking as a woman, in the modern day media where the overwhelming amount of high budget movies show female protagonists as these perfect beacons who their issue isn't that they need to grow, it's that society needs to recognize them, this was such a refreshing change of pace. And more to the point, while Riley is making the wrong choices, even if you took the emotions' driving things out of it, you understand why she is making every choice. And the point of the movie is for her to grow and learn from her mistakes. Her flaws don't make her a bad person, they make her a normal human being. WHAT A CONCEPT!!!!

This movie is crafted beautifully. I have so many things to say, but one detail I really like is how when Anxiety goes down and plants one of her memory orbs the sentences starts with "if", that's basically how thoughts of Anxiety are. Not really factual, just alot of "Ifs", for example, "If I'm good at hockey they'll like me." "If I'm popular I'll have friends." "If I fit in I won't be bullied." Etc.

This movie is so tense, we can't really relate to being chased by a 100 meter tall monster and saving the world, but most of us can relate really hard to being in a place we aren't supposed to and fearing that we will get on massive trouble if we are found out.

When I watched this film with my mother in the cinema, I was really amazed that Inside Out 2 spiced up this film of teenage angst that was relatable to my life in high school, this film cleared my mind and warmed my heart by fulfilling the emotional quotient of its predecessor

God other than The Last Wish, Inside Out 2’s portrayal of the anxiety attack scene hits so hard for me. With anxiety, it’s so overwhelming to have so many negative thoughts coming at once that I become literally static. Frozen, tense, physically unable to move while in the storm of emotions because they’re all just rushing in really fast at the same time. The negative “repressed emotions” flowing down to Riley’s Sense of Self & Anxiety moving so indescribably fast that she’s frozen in place makes that feeling so much more impactful and I have never seen another movie execute that feeling so accurately.
