Interesting topic. I do want to interject a subject of time and relativity here. My points below I hope will construct an arguement supporting how Jesus descended into hell and rose on the third day and yet have the criminal accompany Jesus Christ into heaven when Jesus said he today you will be with me in paradise. But before I do, I want to establish accepted understandings. 1. God is the Alfa and Omega. 2. Alfa means the beginning. 3. Omega means the end. 4. Alfa = Omega means no sense of time in heaven. 5. The Bible states that when the day of judgement arrives, all the living and dead will rise. So how can some sinners be suffering in the hand of demons when judgement has not happened? 6. How can Jesus Christ descend into hell and rise on the third day? 7. How can Jesus promise the criminal that he will be with him in paradise today? The answer is time relativity. You see that no time exist in heaven. Time still exist on Earth. If you view the events of earth in heaven, it is a miniscule fraction of a second. As a mortal on earth, I will eventually die and be in a sleep like trance that will run until the Second Coming of Jesus Christ. Then all the dead and living will be judged. In heaven, time on Earth has come from beginning to end in the blink of an eye. So Jesus did descend into hell and rise on the third day relative to time on Earth. But time in Heaven was a blink of an eye. In heaven, Jesus was able to promise the criminal the ability to accompany him in heaven today because when the criminal died, he was buried and in a sleep like trance till the day of judgement. That criminal is still to this day in a sleep trance awaiting the day of judgement. But in time relativity in Heaven, all the events that happened on earth happened instantaneously in a blink of an eye so the criminal upon his death felt as if he woke up in heaven. This is liken to when we fall asleep at night and wake up not experiencing every second, minute and 8 hours of sleep that transpired. Revelations verse 5 shows that Jesus was the first to rise from the dead even though trillions of men and women are in a sleep like trance awaiting the day of judgement. And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood. So all of the time events can happen when you break away the assumption that time is not constant in all the realms God works in. It is all relative as Einstein proved.

I have read the interpretation that “hell” is total abandonment of God. On earth even the unbelievers still have God present in their lives, they just do not acknowledge or realize it. For God loves all of His children on earth, we have His love whether we believe or not. But in Hell, ones soul is completely abandoned by God. They no longer have His presence as they once did on earth. And so did Jesus have some sort of abandonment of God for three days? “My God, My God why have you forsaken me”? I’m not sure .

You’re separated from God relationally, but not positionally. You’re separated from the loving relationship/grace with God. But not positionally, you must pay for your sins in hell, and the one who gives the punishment is God Himself. Since you decided to reject His beloved Son.

When he asked why God had forsaken him, it was because at that moment, the full measure of humanity's sin was upon his person. God cannot accept nor look upon sin, so at that moment, as mankind's substitute, that what should've happened to us all happened to him...being rejected by God. But alas, we all have the ability to be forgiven because of this act by Christ and God. He died and was rejected so we wouldn't have to be. Well not die spiritually mind you and be condemned.

Hell is living with the consciousness of inhumane treatment of others and the self. Some people live in Hell on Earth and death frees them. The people who commit inhumane acts and are not bothered by it are the worst and most dangerous to society. In history Kings and other sole leaders felt justified for inhumane treatment of others to maintain a kingdom or its expansion. Consciousness of actions is determined by the position a person holds. In my book The Direction of Man I stress that the perfect government model is in our biological interior and when we allow one person to rule a nation we are inviting disaster.

He completely missed this point. Also, the letter of Peter and Hebrews. 1Pet 3:18-20: "For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive in the spirit, in which he went and proclaimed to the spirits in prison, because they formerly did not obey, when God’s patience waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was being prepared, in which a few, that is, eight persons, were brought safely through water." Heb 2:10-16: "For it was fitting that he, for whom and by whom all things exist, in bringing many sons to glory, should make the founder of their salvation perfect through suffering. For he who sanctifies and those who are sanctified all have one source. That is why he is not ashamed to call them brothers, saying, “I will tell of your name to my brothers; in the midst of the congregation I will sing your praise.” And again, “I will put my trust in him.” And again, “Behold, I and the children God has given me.” Since therefore the children share in flesh and blood, he himself likewise partook of the same things, that through death he might destroy the one who has the power of death, that is, the devil, and deliver all those who through fear of death were subject to lifelong slavery. For surely it is not angels that he helps, but he helps the offspring of Abraham." Heb 11:39-40: "And all these, though commended through their faith, did not receive what was promised, since God had provided something better for us, that apart from us they should not be made perfect." The perfection of the OT saints came only after the atonement, and after Jesus has released the Bosom of Abraham. Eph 4:8-10: "Therefore it says, “When he ascended on high he led a host of captives, and he gave gifts to men.” ( In saying, “He ascended,” what does it mean but that he had also descended into the lower regions, the earth? He who descended is the one who also ascended far above all the heavens, that he might fill all things.)" Mat 27:51-53: "And behold, the curtain of the temple was torn in two, from top to bottom. And the earth shook, and the rocks were split. The tombs also were opened. And many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised, and coming out of the tombs after his resurrection they went into the holy city and appeared to many."

Not sure I agree. I believe paradise typically referred to Abraham’s bosom. From what I understand. Typically. I think the man on the cross went with Jesus there. In Matthew 27 it talks about how saints rose from the grave and spoke to people. I think that’s who Jesus spoke to. I believe Jesus descended into the part of Hell called paradise where the saints were waiting in a peaceful place and He brought them out. The Bible teaches about Abraham’s Bosom in Jesus’ story about Lazarus and the rich man. Some actually believe it wasn’t a parable at all. Could be agrued. But you can't argue with this verse. Matthew 12:40 For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the great fish, so will the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth. (Or Hell.) I like a lot of these teaches but I’m not on board with this one sorry. Plus I’m not a big fan of different translations adding words that weren’t in the original Greek. Seems dangerous to me

it could be, "Truly I tell you today, you will be with me in Paradise." So when He returns, and the criminal is resurrected, He would share paradise with Jesus. Which is what he asked for, for a part of the coming kingdom. There are many examples in the bible of them saying things this day, or today, so I would try to make the case without this one verse. I testify to you today, or against you today, I teach you today/this day, I command you today, etc. Paul teaches that the believers who die will come forth from their graves at Jesus’ second coming and then the gift of immortality will be bestowed on them, so this seems to agree with the scriptures more to me.
@KennethNicholson19724 жыл бұрын
I absolutely agree with you Trav. I believe the word quite plainly tells us that our LORD went down into hades, claiming all those who were His from paradise, and delivered His gospel to all those who died from the time of Noah, that they might be saved, or indeed left for judgement. Our LORD's parable of the rich man and the poor man tells us all we need to know about hades and makes what He does later, very clear.

Some of those added words are needed because word for word translation of the Greek doesn't make sense in English. The words added are those implied by the literal Greek. Other places the translators added words that really are added. Unfortunately I don't read Koine Greek or any other Greek so I can't tell the difference. As you wrote, dangerous. Some translations give literal translations in the notes some places where the additional words are needed.

Trav B dude you are so right. He went down into Abraham’s blossom and took back the keys to Hell death and the grave. Colossians 2 says he spoiled powers and principalities openly. Jesus kicked Satans but and roasted all those demons. His blood then cleansed the mercy seat in heaven, and now all the people that were counted ritcheous in Abraham’s bossom ascended into Heaven. “”When He ascended He led captive a host of captives “ Ephesians (4:8).This is what that verse means: When Jesus died He went to the heart of the earth for three days and three nights as He said He would (Matthew 12-40) Thus we know that paradise was at that time in the heart of the earth, because Jesus told the repentant thief that He would be with Jesus in paradise that day. Then Jesus came back into His body(which was in the tomb of Joseph of Arimathea) and came out of the tomb. Then He was on earth for another 40 days, and appeared to many people. After that He ascended to heaven. When He ascended, He took all the people who were in paradise (who had been captives in the heart of the earth)up with Him to the third heaven. we know today, that paradise is in the third heaven, because in 2 Corinthians 12:2 and 4, we read that Paul was taken there. And he says he was taken up and not down. When a child of God dies today, he doesn’t go down to the heart of the earth like Moses, David , and Jesus went when they died, but he goes up to the third heaven where Christ is today. Christ descended first into the lower parts of the earth (4:9)Ephesians Hell was also there, but there was a big gulf between hell and paradise-as we read in the true story of the rich man and Lazarus. Hell is still in the centre of the earth.”” Ref Zac Poonen Through the Bible book (page 766)

correct, is important to always check the original source in greek, the Evangelion speaks of 3 "places": -Hades aδης (Ades) the "undeworld" it's a neutral place( it is not "hell"), is the place where ALL the death go no matter if it is a good person or bad, Christ went to Hades, Hades has a good side ("paradise" or the "bosom of Abraham", lazarus is here) and a bad side (Tartarus, the greedy rich man is here) both sides are separated. -Tartaros Τάρταρος a place of torment (but it's not "hell") , this place is not eternal, its an intermediary stage of torment until "the second death" -Gahenna γέεννα (Geenna) THIS is Hell the permanent place of suffering, "the lake of fire", after "the second death" this is the place where the wicked and non-believers will be ad-eternum the King James makes the error to call all this places just "Hell" making everything very confusing, that's why its important to check the original greek (the interlinear text at Biblehub is a great resource) there is a great video "true-to-the-source" explaining all this by David Bercot "where do we go after we die"

If paradise is already there, then why does the bible say that God is going to create New heavens and a new Earth? Jesus promised the thief on the cross that he would be with him in the new heavens ( paradise )and earth when he comes to be glorified in his saints. When he comes , his desciples will probably be sent to continue preaching about Jesus Christ and the Kingdom of God again, because , Man has made a big mess of his Gospel, and every body is being taught a different Gospel than the one his apostles preached.We could end up being damned. So read the Bible , and test the spirits whether they be of God. There are many Anti-Christs out there seeking some-one to devour.

@@fenech97 new heavens is not a replacement for the third heaven where God dwells. New heavens is replacing the old physical universe, that is, the cosmos with the galaxies and star systems. This text in Ephesians does not prove that some disciples went up to heavan with Jesus. Its FIGURATIVE'. How do we know? Paul explained that the resurrection BEGINS, at the 'great trumpet' on the 'last day' ( see 1 Cor 15:52). Some in Paul's day, ( after Jesus ascension) had wrongly assumed the "resurrection had already taken place. See 2 Tim 2:18) . So scriptures show the resurrection hasnt started yet! At Eph Paul showed how in the christian congregation disciples had been made 'spiritually alive and freed from the captivity of sin and death, God's Spirit was now poured out on them, giving them new life and happiness! The Greek word referring to the place of the dead is hades. The KJV translates sheol and hades as hell. Even in modern translations that use sheol and hades more often still refer to hell. Hell is of germanic/nordic origin for place of the dead. I used to have a similar theory to yours brother but I believe it to be incorrect Edit: I think that sheol, hades and hell are synonymous and I'm lead to believe the same for the grave. But my theory was that the grave contains Abraham's Bosom/paradise and hell/hades/sheol across the great gulf. But from what Ive seen grave seems to be synonymous with sheol and sheol with hades. See Acts 2:27 and contrast with Psalm 16:10. NKJV translates Acts verse as Hades and Psalms verse as Sheol since OT references in NT are from LXX

When someone is released from prison he typically rides a designated bus to an area to go back into freedom. The "captivity captive" I believe was the process of Jesus pulling behind him (in His ascension) a long train of OT believer's souls that needed to be held inside a protective power sphere from God to reach Heaven. When they got there? They "got off the bus." That "divine bus" had them locked inside and captive until they reached the designation point.

Why state the obvious? Of course he was telling him "today" (as opposed to yesterday or tomorrow) but that wasn't the message. The message was "Today you will be with me ....". The WT Corp. changed the placement of the comma to support a previously determined doctrine but it is erroneous. Let us observe how Yeshua used this phrase. As you know He always used it to preface something very important. Let's consult a listing of every instance in which the Scriptures records this phrase and see if there is a consistency we can appeal to for authority in this matter. I consulted my Strong's concordance and counted a total of 74 entries of "Verily, verily, I say unto you". Now If you refer to your WT published "Comprehensive Concordance" (1973), you will notice that it too has a similar listing, "Truly I say to you," Observe this column. Notice how all the commas line up and Jesus was consistent in his application of this phrase? Oops, except one. 73 of the 74 phrases have the comma after "you". Did you notice which verse is the sole deviant? Do you suppose this one exception is due to a "preferred religious view" of WT Corp? "Let God be true and every man a Liar".

Soul sleep is unbiblical. Clearly when Jesus said that, he was referring to bodily ascension, which did not occur until 40 days after his resurrection. Many scriptures attest to this. Rev. 6:9 (the souls slain under the altar asking the Lord when he would avenge them); the poor man in Abraham's bosom, speaking to the rich man across the great gulf; Phil. 1:23 - Paul desires to depart and be with Christ, which is far better; David would go to his son, but his son would not return to him. And kingdom science already explained the Ecclesiastes passage. Also keep in mind progressive revelation; although some OT saints, such as David, understood the intermediate state, it was not completely clear to all of them and it was left to progressive revelation to remove the ambiguity. This can be clear to anyone who has a Berean attitude and studies the full testimony of Scripture.

The great gulf that is fixed between the place of suffering and paradise is the bottomless pit aka Tartarus. Jesus Christ descended into Abraham’s bosom and emptied it out by taking all the OT saints to heaven aka the Fathers house. There they will be tormented day and night forever and ever. Revelation 20:14-15: Then Death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death-the lake of fire. According to the Bible, when a person dies whether it's a believer or unbeliever they're asleep in the grave and know nothing. Ecclesiastes 9:5 "For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing, neither have they any more a reward, for the memory of them is forgotten." vs 6 "Also their love, and their hatred, and their envy is now perished; neither have they any more a portion for ever in any thing that is don under the Sun." vs 10 "Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might: for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom in the grave, whither thou goest." Psalms 115:17 "The dead praise not the Lord:neither any that go down into silence." Psalms 146:4 " His breath goeth forth, he returneth to his earth: in that very day his thoughts perish." Psalms 6:5 "For in death there is no rememberance of thee: in the grave who shall give thee thanks?" Jesus Christ paid for the sins of mankind through His one time sacrifice on the cross. John 3:16 "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son: that whosoever believeth in him, should not perish but have everlasting life." 1 Peter 2:24 "Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree that we being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness, by whose stripes ye were healed. According to scripture, Jesus spent three days and three nights in the grave(Matthew 12:40). The Bible does not teach that Jesus went to a place called hell(where there's a devil in a red suit with a pitch fork in a flame of fire tormenting people)to set people free from the devil(Note: the devil is not confined to a place called hell. This is what the Bible says about the whereabouts of the devil, 1Peter 5:8 "Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour. The words grave, pit, or sheol are used in reference to the word hell. Acts 2:27 "Because thou wilt not leave my soul in hell, neither wilt thou suffer thy Holy one to see corruption(this is in reference to Christ, also in Psalms 16:10)." John 5:28 "Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming in which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice," Revelation 20:13 "And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works." Psalms 86:13 "For great is thy mercy toward me: and thou hast delivered my soul from the lowest hell. Psalms 88:4 "I am counted with them that go down into the pit: I am a man that hath no strength." vs 6 "Thou hast laid me in the lowest pit: in darkness, in the deeps." 1 Corinthians 15:55 "O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?" The "Lake of Fire" is referred to as Hell or Hell fire or Outer Darkness depending on it's use in scripture. Matthew 10:28 "And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell." Mark 9:43 "And if thy hand offend thee, cut it off: It is better for thee to enter into life maimed, than having two hands, to go into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched." Luke 12:4"And I say unto you my friends, Be not afraid of them that kill the body, and after that, have no more that they can do." vs 5 "But I will forewarn you whom you shall fear: Fear him, which after he hath killed, hast power to cast into hell, yea, I say unto you, Fear him." Matthew 8:12 "But the children of the kingdom shall be cast out into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth." Matthew 22:13 " Then said the king to the servants, Bind him hand and foot, and take him away, and cast him into outer darkness, there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth." When Christ died and rose, he did not ascend into heaven/paradise. Therefore, the thief on the cross did not ascend into paradise when he died(like all other believers who have died(past/present) are asleep in the grave and will be resurrected at the second coming of Christ). From scripture it says that Jesus told Mary, touch me not: for I am not yet ascended to my Father( John 20:17). After His resurrection, Jesus remained on earth for forty days. Acts 1:3 "To whom also he shewed himself alive after his passion, by many infallible proofs, being seen of them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God:" John 3:13 "And no man hath ascended up to heaven, but he that came down from heaven, even the Son of man which is in heaven." The Bible says to study to show yourself approved unto God(1 Timothy 2:15),and allow the Holy Spirit to guide you into all truth( John 16:13)and get an understanding(Prov 4:7) so you won't be tossed to and fro by every wind of doctrine (Ephesians 4:14). May the Spirit of the Lord open the eyes, ears, and heart of all who desire to know His truths. Let's be helpers of one another!!!

But wait, perhaps the answer lies in the phrase "under the sun" which appears over and over again in Ecclesiastes. Could it be possible "under the sun" refers to things which are happening "on earth"? Ah yes, they have no more reward of anything that is done "under the sun". The memory of them is forgotten by them "under the sun" (hopefully Yahweh remembers them). Yes, the dead no nothing of what's going on "under the sun". They have moved "beyond the veil". How many total times does "under the sun" occur in Ecclesiastes? It's obviously relevant.

When in the garden after Jesus was raised, John 20:7 "Jesus saith unto her, Touch me not; for I am not ascended to my father:" said Jesus. You are saying Jesus died, went to heaven, and after three days and three nights there He returned to earth to see Mary Magdalene just to tell her not to touch Him because He had to go right back to heaven and present Himself to God? That makes no sense. Then consider Matthew 12:40 "For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth." Said Jesus Christ. He surely knew his fate and He doesn't lie! These quotes are from the KJV, dump the nasb "Bible" and their adding words to redirect the meanings of what Jesus Himself said! I'm not a preacher, just an avid reader of the Word of God. Paradise is used for Abraham's bosom and in other places heaven. The word translated "hell" is not the same word throughout the Bible. Anywhere the risen Jesus is or that God is will always be Paradise! Before the resurrection all righteous went to Paradise and unsaved went to hell. At the end hell will be cast into the lake of fire. Revelation 20:13 "... death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them..." Revelation 20:14 "... This is the second death."

No, this is referring to the Holy Spirit. Romans 8:11 says that the Holy Spirit raised Jesus from the dead. So back to 1 Peter: He was raised in (by/through) the Holy Spirit, through Whom He also "preached to the spirits in prison, after they were disobedient long ago when God patiently waited in the days of Noah..." The temporal indicators in vs. 20 describe the time of the preaching. The spirits of the disobedient are now in prison, but the preaching occurred during the days of Noah, as Christ by the Spirit preached to the disobedient ancients through Noah. The NET Bible's footnote says, "Many translations take this as adjectival describing the spirits (“who had once been disobedient”; cf. NASB, NIV, NKJV, NLT, NRSV, TEV), but the grammatical construction strongly favors an adverbial interpretation describing the time of the preaching, as reflected above."

There are 4 words that are translated into "hell" in the English. Only one of them refers to our idea of the actual hell. Sheol & Hades - These are the grave. The dwelling of the dead. Hades was taken from the Greek and it was a place for all dead, not just the bad people. Sheol is the Hebrew version of that. Tartarus - This was the Greek prison for the Titans. This is the prison in which the fallen are kept in. You might know it as the bottomless pit. I think this word only appears once in the bible, but it is also translated hell. Gehenna - In the Old Testament, this is the Valley of Hinnon. It's where the Israelites caused their children to walk through the fire as sacrifices to Molech, a false god. It was later looked at as a kind of cursed place and tradition has it that this is where they ended up throwing dead carcasses and periodically burned them to prevent disease (I can't verify this). None the less... every time this word is used, it is in reference to the Lake of Fire. Which is the closest thing the bible mentions that resembles the Dante's Inferno created version of hell. The idea of hell as we know it came in large part from 'The Divine Comedy' by Dante Alighieri. It came from Dante's imagination.

Why are you changing today for now? They are obviously NOT the same word or the two separate words wouldn't exist. Punctuation? There is no problem with this verse when you consider ALL the other verses in which Jesus said; "truly, truly, I say unto you, ..." . Have a look at them. Jesus used this phrase a hundred times. If you refer to a concordance, you will see that the commas All line up (f they don't, your concordance is obviously in error!). Besides, stating, "I say to you today, ..." is redundant and superfluous. When would the listener think he was talking? Tomorrow? To speak in the present tense has to be "today". Also, He never said "today" in any of the other references where this phrase is used, and he didn't here either. As with all the other 100 or so instances of Jesus saying "truly, truly, I am telling you, ... " the comma is after "you". "today" is grammatically connected to "paradise".

@TheTriplelman3 жыл бұрын
@@15bashie the great thing is, with study you can always find the truth in the word of God. The last thing Jesus said before he breathed his last breath. "It is finished" John 19:28. That ment it is ALL done, the debt has been paid. Jesus became the final and ultimate sacrifice for our sin. The word in this verse, “finished,” is actually from the Greek word, “tetelestai,” which is the same word that means “paid in full.” Often, it was used in an accounting term, which indicates a debt was paid. The uniqueness about the way it was written is that the tense of the word indicates both a point in time it was complete and that it would also continue to be complete or finished. And this is the essence of what Christ came to do. He came to “finish” God’s work of salvation in us. He came to “pay it in full,” the entire penalty, or debt, for our sins. So, nothing else (like going to hell, for some obscure reason) would have been done. 3 days in the depths of the earth, means phyisical death. Hell is not the physical,earth, it is the spiritual death. So people say that Christ went to hell are confused and are not reading the whole Bible that would make Christ a liar if he told the man on the cross next to him today you will be with me in paradise and when he said it is finished. 1Peter 2:24 says, "He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed.” - thats it. Not by his wounds and suffering and oh by the way he went to hell for three days that's nowhere to be found in the Bible I hope that helps I'm glad you're thirsty and looking for the truth look up Ray comfort and how he Witnesses the people and watch a lot of his videos and slowly learn how to do that because people really need to know Jesus especially at this time good for you

This is a very interesting topic. It has long been a focus of meditation for me: Where was Jesus in the 36 hours between the the stone rolled to close the Tomb on Friday evening and being seen by Mary Magdalene on Sunday Morning. There is no answer but we can explore the possibilities. I was afraid that Dr. Bruce Ware would just recant the traditional positions but instead He debunked them. We often say in preaching and song that Jesus destroyed the gates of hell but that is only based on the statement the very gates of could not withstand Him, which is not quite the same thing. Though having spent a lot of time in contemplating this, I had never considered Jesus's words to the dying Thief and i thank Dr. Bruce for calling my attention to that. But the question has no COMPLETE answer and is open to further contemplation. I thought he was going to give an easy answer and he refrained from doing so. Part of the meditation is how did Jesus become alive again? A clue to this that i find in scripture is Genesis 2:7 -- Then Adonai Elohim fashioned ha-adam (the man) from the dust of the adamah (pun) and breathed into his nostrils the nishmat chayyiym (breath of life or lives) and was the adam l'nephesh Chayyah (to a living being) ("and was ... to" means "became" and "was" is not really the correct word given the nature of Hebrew verbs.) But again this is something we can only wonder about. I am greatly impressed by brother Bruce's perspicacity and now i will try to see as much as i can of his messages. In general i have so much of Southern Seminary's output to be grateful for and when i get myself sorted out will express my thanks with a token gift.

Solomon the preacher teaches us that the dead are concious of nothing, he states that; "The living know that they shall die; but the dead know not anything".(Ecclesiastes 9v. 5) The apostle Paul teaches us that the resurrection has an order to it. He illustrates this to us in the book of 1 Corinthians 15v.23 which reads " but Everyman in his own order; Christ the first fruits of the dead. After ward they that are Christ's at his coming". This simply means, that the dead remain in an Unconscious state until the resurrection day !! Daniel the prophet reminds us that; "many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake , some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt".(Daniel 12v. 2) It is easy to see that all three men of God are portraying the same line of thought! So our advise for you is to use the Bible as your guideline, and stop listening to the doctrines of men. Blessings...

Wrong. According to the Bible, nobody is in Paradise/Heaven yet. The only one who is in heaven is the Lord Jesus Christ the firstfruit. He has a new spiriual body, He is God's new creation, the second Adam. *Sheol and Hades are nothing more than the grave* There is no such place as the mythical pagan place called hell. Even the word hell is pagan. Eternal life by faith in Jesus Christ or *perish* in the lake of fire aka the second death. Those are the only choices. There are no disembodied spirits in heaven. When your body dies your soul dies with it. That is what the Bible teaches. The immortality of the soul comes from Gnosticism. From where did Jesus call Lazarus to come back to life from the dead? From heaven or from the grave? Why is there no record of Lazarus explaining to his sisters of his death experience? Lazarus could not explain because the dead know nothing *(Ecclesiastes 9:5)* even being in a conscious state like any person fast asleep. Yes you don’t know what goes on around you while you’re asleep. *Acts **2:29* Men and brethren, let me freely speak unto you of *the patriarch David* that he is *both dead and buried* and his sepulchre is with us unto *this day* www.jba.gr/The-origins-of-the-doctrine-of-the-immortality-of-the-soul.htm

The Nicene Creed mentions that Yeshua was crucified, died, buried, raised on the third day and ascended to Heaven from where he shall come to judge the living and the dead. To keep it simple, only because different church denominations in Splinter groups have different beliefs when it comes to hell and heaven. Most would agree that's Yeshua did release those that were in limbo between Earth and Paradise. Some Churches do not believe we have an immortal or Eternal so and therefore none of these things have happened yet for people that have passed away.. so some Churches believe it when your body dies then you're just waiting asleep in the grave until the return and Resurrection. It's way too much to get into here but I think you're showing a difference between heaven and Paradise. Generally speaking paradise and heaven are the same within scripture and this means in the Old Testament or the New Testament.. I don't really remember anywhere in the Bible where there's a definite different meaning for paradise and heaven. People as a mentioned above the long to certain denominations or even certain religions, who happened to believe that when your body expires you don't have some Immortal, Eternal. So that's going to carry on. But if you happen to believe that you do have an immortal and eternals so, which I believe, then just recognize there's not any difference between paradise and heaven and they are synonymous and one word can be used interchangeably for the other!. I'm not a Bible scholar or anything like this but I do know a little bit. Where did you hear that paradise and heaven weren't the same? I honestly have never heard this in my life. That's not a jab at you it's just I've never heard anyone show distinction between heaven and Paradise and usually thought of as the same place. Only if you get a chance could you let me know because I love to learn what people have been told or where they got the information from and so on. So if you get a chance just hit me back and let me know if you had just always been told paradise and heaven or separate places or what because it's important to me when I have questions in reality or real life, and I want to be able to answer a question for myself but also I want to be able to recognize that this belief is amongst a certain group here and there. When I said that you're the first person that's ever said this to me in my short life, I didn't want you to take that as a jab or something like this towards you. We're all learning and that's why life is just a big school. I don't want you to read this and then think I am so he'll put you down or making you feel silly or stupid because it's pretty easy to do the same to me and I wouldn't do that to anyone on purpose. Again, if you can tell me where you first heard this difference between heaven and Paradise as if they're two different places could you please let me know because again oh, I just want to learn

You may have just always heard this about the souls in Hell being forgiven after the crucifixion or Resurrection. Is there anyway you can kinda tell me from where you first heard this? So I just wanted to see if you could tell me where you were taught this or what denominational church group top you this or where did you get this idea? I am not trying to argue or anything, but I am trying to understand where you heard this? Bro just trying to still learn and hopefully become better people so this is one reason why I ask questions. I understand the argument, HOWEVER, citing the passage of Luke23:39-43 to validate or support the opposing interpretations is not sufficient proof that Jesus did not address other issues that needed to be address and instead ascended right up to Heaven upon his death because then that would contradict with what is later reflective in John 20:17, in which he also stated, "Do not cling to Me, for I have not yet ascended to My Father; but go to My brethren and say to them, ‘I am ascending to My Father and your Father, and to My God and your God." Which would suggest that Jesus had indeed had to wrapping up and taking care of some things before he finally ascended to Heaven. True that there is a period of time necessary in order to comply with the understanding of death by those of that time that required the three days to eliminate any doubt that Jesus had defeated death and come back to life. But there is (given the passages citing at the start of the video) that does provide so legitimacy to the notion that Jesus liberated those that came before him. It must also be noted and considered that the flow of time is NOT the same in Heaven as it is on earth, so there would be NO contradictions (as this video implies) in Jesus going to address various issues elsewhere (as the notion widely believed of his emancipation of those in Sheol, which would be later interpreted as "hell" but in truth, Sheol did not really severe that purpose for punishment, but rather as a holding pen for those who could not ascend to heaven until the coming of the Christ and his sacrifice that made it possible for them to do so. It was only upon his ascension that then the Holy Spirit was then allowed to come down to aid the children of GOD in the absence of Jesus's physical presence on earth. Just something to consider. Joshua 24:15 John 8:31-32 & 14:6 Psalms 28:7 Strength and Honor!

As A Minister of the Gospel, two main things we notice about Scripture when we study them, the first is, there are text that are direct and simple, that mean what they say, clearly, without having to go deep, THEN, there are those things we see that require a strong connection with GOD, Spiritually, which is written like riddles and which the intended meaning evades us and is deliberately complex. There are also things that may seem ambiguous when you first read it and, thus, requires you to truly study all of the scriptures to put the pieces together in order to understand the true meaning of what is meant. So, if you find it difficult to accept what you read in the scriptures that is clearly stated and you find it difficult to accept it for what it clearly and deliberately says and means, you would have complicated the interpretation and made a complete mess of everything. ACCEPT IT FOR WHAT IT SAYS, THE LORD WENT DOWN INTO HELL to Preach THE GOSPEL, to set Souls Free, ALL of Them, the fact that HE had to PREACH, meant, the souls, although in HELL, still had to be convinced that HE IS WHOM HE SAYS HE IS, All the souls, All the way back to the Flood had been given an opportunity to accept THE ONLY BEGOTTEN SON OF THE FATHER and be forgiven of their sins, funny thing is, even then, not all RECEIVED HIM, Whole Nations were still trying to get back to their former lives on earth and still wrestle with death, yearning and struggling to return to the, "Pleasure of The Flesh", that's how powerful Lust is.

Even in our time, as a middle easterner, where Christ was born, 2 thousand years later, when someone mentions something done “today”, it means it will be done whether today or in the next few days but it will be done. As an example on how time is elastic in our Orthodox tradition, the Orthodox view the week after Pascha as one long day. We pray as Orthodox for the unity of the church.

When asked about Lazarus, Jesus said he's dead....the Bible also says the dead know nothing.....also, the "gift of God is Eternal life" so the only time you can be immortal when your soul/spirit can be "alive" somewhere, is upon the resurrection when Jesus returns

First off, the word we know of as “hell” has been used throughout the Bible where multiple Hebrew and Greek words were used. It was as if the word hell was translated from all these different words. The word hell has been completely misunderstood and wrongly translated. 2nd, the original bible language did not use punctuation and the comma was added to the scripture where Jesus said to the thief that today you would be with me in paradise. As far as we know Jesus could have been just telling him on that day that he would be with Jesus in paradise. I could say to my child “I’m telling you today that if you don’t do your chores then you’re going to be grounded”. Does that mean that only applies to “today”. No, I am just telling him today. Since, translators added the comma, we don’t know for certain that it was placed in the correct spot. That scripture is the only scripture that states you will be in paradise on that day.

J. G. The word hell is not interpreted correctly. Tell me in the Bible where it says hell is literally burning. There is a lake of fire if that is what you’re referring too. However, Revelations says that death and hell will be cast into the lake of fire. So, I guess it’s stating that a literal fire will be cast into a lake of fire?? Think about it.
@alexoloyede2 жыл бұрын
@@donshort6651 So, you're debunking literal scripture because you don't believe one fire can be thrown into another fire? Not a very strong argument against the existence of fire my friend. And it's a dangerous case against hell itself, especially in light of the numerous scriptures that quite literally describe hell as fire (check out Matt.25:41, Luke 16:24, Mark 9:43-47, Matt.25:46, Rev. 14:11, etc)

No body goes to hell before the judgement day. Jesus not necessarily preached to the spirits but Jesus went to proclaimed to Hades/Sheol (not hell) to take charge over death as he himself overcame it. The very first day of Jesus's crucifixion he responded to one of the criminals that they will go to paradise ( The earth will become a place like the garden of Eden before Eve and Adam had sinned).

I like what Southern Seminary had to say. The video title asks tough questions (and raise more) that are partially addressed by many relevant passages in scripture, but seem to lack definitive answers. We know that at some point Jesus took on our sin (probably right before crying out) and was separated from the Father. We know that the devil has never owned anyone's soul (no ransom theory, instead propitiation and life in Christ). Jesus experienced death on our behalf, death on the cross (and separation from the Father). How long was this separation? The passage, (approx.) this day you will be with Me in paradise, limits the last question. However, in regards to Jesus going to paradise, after He had risen and was seen by Mary He asked her not to cling to Him because He had not yet ascended to the Father. Does this mean He went to heaven and didn't see the Father? Abraham's bosom should still have been in effect (I go to prepare a place for you, that where I am there you may also be) so maybe. Was something specific (between Jesus and the Father) supposed to happen that just hadn't occurred yet? Did Jesus do something else between dying and going to paradise? If so, what was it? If it's important for us to know, one day we'll know. Some may/may have already know/known, but the numbers claiming to know/have known are far far greater than those who actually do/did.

Shifting that comma to, "I tell you today, you will be with me in paradise..." completely shifts the timing and meaning of the sentence. I think it's easy to forget the state Jesus was in when he said these words. It might have taken him more than a minute to say that short sentence. He went to the underworld ( "Hades" in greek, or "Sheol" in Hebrew, "hell" in English, also "prison", the "pit", "Abraham's bosom"), which is not to be confused with eternal Hell of damnation ("tartarus" in greek, "Gehenna" in Hebrew). Pre-Jesus, all people went to Hades to await Jesus. Jesus went down to that hell to bring up the righteous dead (ie Abraham, John the Baptist, etc) to Heaven. This is mentioned in Peter's epistle 1Peter 3:19.

(So the rightous dead would seem to be excluded) I would agree that indeed he did all else you said and that those righteous dead were in some sense captives set free from the grave as per some other passages I can't recall exactly without looking up but I'm sure you are aware of. But it seems this specific incident thst Peter spoke of was a proclamation of the good news or rather bad news for the bad guys. Like the judge has gone to the jailed bad guys and let them know their side just lost the war and judgment is coming, that they are getting ready to get sent from jail to the the pen (in a matter of speaking). Maybe even as simile (and this is real speculations) like how mob bosses operate from inside prison and direct their operations to those free, and now the judge has just walked in and said their plans have all be thwarted. And to anticipate, I think 4.6 is speaking of those spiritual dead that when preached to and saved will be made alive. So I think while some of the same vocab is used it's a different thing. But would like to hear your thoughts.
@AmericanBerean4 жыл бұрын
@@provokingthought9964 You make good points, but you should also consider: would Jesus go to Sheol, inform the bad dead that they were not going to heaven, and NOT take with Him the righteous dead? However, I have heard the idea that Heaven wasn't really opened up until Jesus ascended, therefore the righteous dead weren't actually taken up to heaven until that time, 40 days after the resurrection. So, maybe He just went there to inform them all of the status of the Salvation Plan. Regardless, my point stands, that after Jesus died, and before His resurrection, He went down to Hell. The idea that He descended to sheol is obvious in Scripture, but whether or not H took out the righteous dead at that time is more of a theological opinion and different folks have different theological opinions on it. It's not critical to our salvation, so it seems we can believe either. Pax Christi.

I take the compartment view of sheol based mostly on the rich man and Lazarus parable but also because I know that this was talked about to some degree as a view in second temple Judaism (which supports that the interpretation based on the parable of sheol as a two sided place) (that and just seems logical as the righteous go to sheol but so do the wicked in the old testament -and it's clear that of the righteous that "these all died in faith having not received the promises but having seen them far off were persuaded and embraced them (check quote, I'm a little rusty on that passage)" so they died, in my view, under a sort of pending justification that awaited Christ's death. Well Brothers and Sisters, this one is simple to explain, Jesus descended into hell for 3 days, However a main key🔑 people don’t know is that Abraham’s bosom was also called Paradise and only separated by a small gulf (like a moat Luke 16:22-26) between hell, so when Jesus was resurrected, he led those (including the one thief) that were in Abraham’s bosom (Paradise) to their true home in Heaven, and that is how Jesus could say ”This day you will be with me in paradise.”

I have heard that it could be, "Truly I tell you today, you will be with me in Paradise." So when He returns, and the criminal is resurrected, He would share paradise with Jesus. In addition you have Matthew 12:40 - For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the great fish, so will the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.

@@johnc.8298 I think that is the wrong way to look at it. There are many many examples of this type of speech. Even by God. Enough that if both comma placements are possible, you should use other verses to support the viewpoint. I would hate it if I said something grammatically acceptable and they changed my meaning because I said something different in the past. In addition, while both placements are possible, one option goes much better with all other verses. That to me says a lot also. Deu 8:19 And if you forget the LORD your God and go after other gods and serve them and worship them, I solemnly warn you today that you shall surely perish. Since the comma was not on the greek and changes the meaning, the English translation should not have made the choice.

@@joeregan. Why would there be an exception of 1 out of 74 instances. This was a very important phrase of Yeshua. I am using the Bible alone as authority.

It is possbile you can say he would never combine those 2 words together, ever, and because of that, you can base an entire doctrine off that one view of that one statement, but then it starts not making sense with the rest of the bible. Paradise is the new kingdom, where the good hope to go after resurrection, after the Messiah is come to take back the world and restore it. Sheol is the grave where they wait for the messiah to come in His kingdom. This is all over the bible. One day The Messiah will bring the kingdom to earth, and throw Shoel in the lake of fire after all of the dead and living are raised with new bodies and taken to paradise. Today and This day language is used all the time in the Old Testement together, even when making important statements to others, so I think it is better to admit Jesus could have also said the same thing, since He quoted the old testememnt all the time, and then say its possible both ways and we need to look at other verses for more information. In addition, this approach makes all the other verses make more sense now.

Definitions are critically important. Why assume that "Hell" is a place of conscious suffering? The "HELL" of the Bible translates the Hebrew SHEOL and the Greek HADES . The Bible's definition of these two equivalent terms is clear from Eccl.9: ⁵,¹⁰. Sheol is the Grave where there is no conscious life. If there was then David would continue to praise God when he got there. But he knew no one in the Grave (Sheol) would even remember God let alone praise Him. Psalm 6:⁵ Immediately upon dying Jesus' "soul" would go to "sheol" (the Grave) but not "left" there permanently. Psalm 16:¹⁰ On the 3rd day God would raise him to life again. Here's where Peter applies the 16th Psalm to Jesus. His soul, having died on friday, would rest unconsciously in the Grave ("Hell" ie sheol/hades) for parts of 3 days but not left there. On Sunday he would be "raised up" by "God" his Father. Acts 2:²⁷,³¹,³² When we assume a definition of a word like "Hell" to be as Church TRADITION would have it...and fail to let SCRIPTURE define it, we're bound to run into difficulties and inevitable confusion.

Jesus entered Abraham’s bosom, and cleared it out taking everyone to Paradise to await the final supper before his return, Paradise is not heaven. Research Sheol.

The Lord Jesus has to come to the air at the rapture which will be a resurrection unto Life. The dead in Christ shall rise first, then we which are alive and remain will be changed and caught up together with them to meet the Lord in the air. This will be a bodily resurrection and then when in the Father's house we will be judged for our service and also partake of the marriage supper of the Lamb in Heaven. (John ch. 14 v 1-3; 1 Thess. ch. 4 v 13-18; 1 Corinthians ch. 15 v 51 onwards.).

He didn't take everyone, he took the saints who died before Him throughout time. The lost who previously died, such as the Rich Man in Luke 16, were not taken.

2 Corinthians 12:1-4 1 This boasting will do no good, but I must go on. I will reluctantly tell about visions and revelations from the Lord. 2 I was caught up to the THIRD HEAVEN fourteen years ago. Whether I was in my body or out of my body, I don’t know-only God knows. 3 Yes, only God knows whether I was in my body or outside my body. But I do know 4 that I was caught up to PARADISE and heard things so astounding that they cannot be expressed in words, things no human is allowed to tell. Paul explicitly confirmed that the THIRD HEAVEN IS PARADISE itself. But it does not mean that Jesus immediately went to Paradise (Third Heaven), because it is said in Matthew 12:40 KJV "For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth. Where Jesus went after his death were in the heart of the earth, and it is possibly the place where the fallen angels who had sexual sins with the daughters of men in Genesis 6 account had been imprisoned. 2 Peter 2:4-5 For God did not spare even the ANGELS who sinned. He threw them into HELL (Tartarus in Greek), in gloomy pits of darkness, where they are being held until the day of judgment. 5 And God did not spare the ancient world-except for Noah and the seven others in his family. Noah warned the world of God’s righteous judgment. So God protected Noah when he destroyed the world of ungodly people with a vast flood. 1 Peter 3:19-20 19 So he (JESUS) went and preached to the spirits (NOT SOULS) in prison- 20 those (NOT SOULS SO IT IS NOT THE ANCIENT MEN) who disobeyed God long ago when God waited patiently while Noah was building the Ark. Only eight people were saved from drowning in that terrible flood. In addition, Luke 23:43 says "I tell you today that you will be with Me in paradise." According to history, the punctuation marks in the bible were started to be incorporated only, at 900 A.D., if these are not placed properly, these may lead to misinterpreting the bible. For us to understand this, let's see this analogy: An English Professor wrote the words: " A woman without her man is nothing." All the males in the class wrote: "A woman, without her man, is nothing." All the females in class wrote: "A woman: without her, man is nothing." We can see in the above examples that PUNCTUATIONS ARE REALLY POWERFUL. If those are not properly placed based on the intention of the author, it could lead to misterpretation. The same with the bible. I believe that the Punctuation (comma) in English Bible Translations that we have today in the context of Luke 23:43 is not properly placed. It must be, “Truly I tell you today, you will be with me in paradise.” We must not boxed our belief with few portions of scriptures (SOLA SCRIPTURA - SCRIPTURE ALONE), instead we must consider all portions of the Scriptures (TOTA SCRIPTURA - WHOLE SCRIPTURE) so that we can see and appreciate the beauty of God's Word by weighing it through the Word of God itself. In conclusion, Jesus went to tartarus to preach to the fallen angels for three days and three nights (2 Peter 2:4-5, 1 Peter 3:19-20) who had sexual sins with the daughters of men (Genesis 6). He did that to declare victory against them and to what they were trying to do before the flood which was to contaminate the DNA of humanity so that the prophecy in Genesis 3:15 that the Messiah would incarnate could not happen. Also what had happened to the criminal one whom Jesus referred to in Luke 23:43 was that he went immediately to Paradise (Third Heaven) after he died. 2 Corinthians 5:8 "To be absent from the body, is to be present in the Lord." The criminal one who had been justified has different story from Jesus, because Jesus had specific assignment that time that's why He went to the heart of the earth for 3 days and 3 nights. Matthew 12:40 KJV "For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.
