It's nice to hear the Manufacturer putting out a video instead of just watching some youtuber. Especially now with Covid no place has any displays like this and we as consumers need to be able to test them side by side. So this video is perfect. Had to switch to 2x12's as i'm getting older, (60) have bought other brands like Spawn & Avatar and retuned both of them for Marshall cabs as they just sound the best. I just bought a 1936 Cab with G12t-75! I already have the 2536 Cab with the Vintage Speakers. So happy you make cabs in both 4x12 or 2x12's. Just found a place in England (Gear4Music) that sells the 1936G cab with Greenback, and ships to the U.S. Putting an order in on Monday after the holidays after hearing this video with Greenbacks.

A very useful comparison. I've always been a fan of Greenbacks and this confirms it. With this type of amp that's being used, a Plexi, you can't beat the 1960AX/BX cab. The TV is a close second if you prefer what the extra cab dimension does to the tone and your back!

So much classic Marshall tone, this video is a real joy to listen to 🤘 Well done Steve and Marshall! In fact I expected bigger differences between the cabs/speakers and it's not easy to decide as all of them sound great, just different flavours of the Marshall DNA... The AHW and AX are probably my favourites of the bunch as I like Greenbacks, but that said the 1960A really surprised me in a very good way contrary to its reputation and seems a good all-around choice. Not a big fan of V30s, but they sure cut through the mix well and are quite versatile.

This just goes to show how important it is to match your cabinet with whatever amp you have to get results that are palatable to your ears. I have an AFD100, and the stock 75w celestions do not work well with it (they're very bright and so is the amp). I changed 2 of them with a pair of original 65w celestions with the bass cones, in an X-pattern and that sorted it out quite nicely.

@@severinstarrs4125 I have a 1960A that I liked with the UK-made DSL100 that I owned. I sold that amp though, and now have a Studio Vintage 20 head (the newish mini-Plexi, an awesome little amp), and an Astoria Custom combo (absolutely killer amp, and my favourite Marshall I've owned/played). unfortunately, neither of these amps shine with a 1960A, but from what I've heard, I'm pretty sure that a 1960AHW will be perfect for them. you have a couple of wicked amps too btw! :)

1960TV is my favorite, but I may be a bit biased since I own one (though I've played through all the others in this video). I did change the grill cloth over to EC Collins True Replica Bluesbreaker Pinstripe cloth, which Marshall themselves have used over recent years on select top-end models such as the limited handwired bluesbreaker reissue and the 50th anniversary 4x12s released in 2015. It is the only exact pinstripe reproduction grill cloth available today copied directly from the old pinstripe Marshall cabs of '65-'67, and it seemed to push the midrange forward even more and got the tone far closer to late '60s Hendrix/Cream (it also looks really cool too). This just goes to show that not only is the cabinet and speaker choice important, but the grill cloth can and does have a significant influence over the tone as it is the final "filter" between the speaker and what you end up hearing.

The biggest problem here is everyone is listening to this through their phones. I yet to find a shop that has all these cabs lined up so you can test them next to each other. Marshall don't have a walk in service (that I know of) at the factory unless you do the tour. I love Marshall gear, but it's very hard to find the tone that fits you without having all the range lined up for testing/comparing.

@@charlesb7831 still not giving you the "in front of cab" sound. Living in the UK, Marshall equipment is relatively cheap. For me to find "my tone", I literally bought all the cabs you hear about to compare them. So I've got the 1960 TV, 1935 with black backs Ms and a jcm900 cab with first edition vintage 30s (plus some really old coloumns and a 1x18 bass cab). But initially I had 65s, black back Hs and 75s. Like I say the difference is really surprising next to each other but you can't remember a tone and unless you're trying it with your amp and guitars, you'll not be giving it a fair test.
@divebomb994 жыл бұрын
Excellent point. Here in the U.S. if you see a Marshall cab in a physical store it's usually some budget MDF thing made in Asia, and if it's U.K.-made it's a 1960 which are good cabs, but we don't have the variety to test as you noted. And you also have a better chance of seeing a unicorn than you do a 1936V.
@charlesb78314 жыл бұрын
@@notsosure7757 yeah I get it, but still better than a phone speaker lol. The only Marshall's I've had was the 8040 combe (glad I sold it lol), and I still have JCM800 4010 combo signed by Zakk Wylde, great amp. Friend of mine in the mid 90's had an anniversary model, blue tolex with Gold Chassis, sounded so sweet. A friend of mine is an amp tech keeps mine working the way it should, loud lol. I've hear most of these Cabs in person, except the tv cabs. Most people these days aren't familiar with Cerwin Vega D7s and D9s, absolutely missing out, these speakers are something else lol In Canada you can still find these older cabs floating around, but there not cheap!
