This is a good technique/video but he's hitting the xiphoid process (a small pointed bone at the bottom of the sternum) not the solar plexus/celiac plexus. The solar plexus is in the upper abdomen not the lower chest so he's hitting a couple inches too high. This is an important distinction because the xiphoid process is a very small bone and easy to break off and if it breaks off from the sternum it can be driven into a surrounding organ, making this blow possibly lethal when you didn't intend it to be. Its not uncommon for the xiphoid process to be broken off during CPR and end up puncturing the diaphragm, liver, lungs, or heart. Technically you can get to the solar plexus by going through the xiphoid process (so he's not exactly wrong) but if you do then you've made a strike that's meant to be merely debilitating potentially lethal. It's best to hit about two inches lower then he is into the soft upper abdomen, there you can hit the solar plexus cleanly, get the effect you want, and avoid potentially puncturing an organ (unless you want to puncture an organ then go wild). An easy way to find the solar plexus is its on the centerline halfway in between the shoulders and groin, basically right in the center of the torso in the soft spot below the sternum but at the top of the abdominal muscle, where the forth button down is on a man's dress shirt.

Question: there are an awful lot of very fat people these days, if you hit a touch too low it could be cushioned by the fat?
@matthewschafer63593 күн бұрын
@markmacdonald1849 Yes, but I wouldn't worry about it too much. Since fat hangs down, even if they're obese with a large amount of fat at the bottom of their stomach there won't be enough fat at the top of their abdomen where the solar plexus is to matter too much. The solar plexus is a soft hollow where the abdominal muscle attaches to the sternum and behind this muscle is a large cluster of nerves and striking these nerves will cause the diaphragm to spasm forcing all the air out of the lungs making a person winded, unable to catch their breath, and often panic. Just make sure you hit it as hard as you can and focus on leaning into it instead of pulling your fist back right away and you should be fine even if they're really fat or you miss by an inch. If you're worried about it you can pick another target like the knees or jaw/chin.

I was thinking about this too. Our instructor reiterated the point several times during a CPR module.

Oh to live in the US!! We're under constant attack in the UK.. Currently we're dealing with a country wide lead ban.. Not imposed yet but its coming.. Shooting in the UK, Practical Shooting and competitive shooting of any kind will be devastated. Where's a second amendment when you need one. Loving the content though.. Thanks!

Its not in place yet.. But when instated will have a 5 year roll out. Pretty much game over. The UKPSA are looking to try and appoint a barrister to see if anything can be done.

The stance is garbage, the power should come from the hips, NO HIPS, NO POWER

In the first minute he explains this is what to do when caught off guard or with little time to react, not what to do in an anticipated encounter. In the context he laid out it makes sense that he wouldn't have an ideal stance or technique.
