Washing a full load of towels on the "Heavy Duty" cycle. This cycle gives a full wash and full rinse, and you can also select a pre-wash and a second-rinse, which were not used during this cycle.

This washer is amazing - kicked my HE to the curb several months ago - can't believe I found a washer that washes clothes again! Yay - a machine that fills with water - agitates - washes - spins out - and voila! clean clothes again!

+Jerome Davis Yes, and there are surprisingly few manufacturers left. LG and Whirlpool are major consumer-grade mfrs, with Samsung being closely related to LG. Maytag, GE, Roper, Hotpoint, Kenmore, etc are all rebadged. Frigidaire is part of Electrolux [Sweden] but it has NOTHING to do with the "original" Electrolux. The only remaining commercial laundry big-wig is Alliance Laundry Systems, which makes IPSO, Huebsch, Primus, UniMac, and yep... Speed Queen.

Hi Guys, We have a Hoover 620 automatic washer that was made in Sydney Australia in 1975, It was my parents when new and we have had her in our laundry since 1990 after my parents updated the laundry. So 40 years old now It still goes well and is all metal like the fantastic Speed Queens.

I love the old heavy duty washers, I also still have my aunts heavy duty1977 GE filter flo washer and only recently has it needed any repairs. Sadly the outer wash tub is beginning to rust and one day I wont be able to fix it, but for now it runs rings around the junk in the stores. I also have the matching dryer as well, both are still going after 40 years. I've never even seen a Hoover washing machine, love to see a video of one of those in action-!

+Harley Badger I just got the 9 series washer and dryer, love them. I can't believe the quality of these machines and I am a mechanical designer. These are like mil-spec machines. How did you get it to run with the lid up?
@yambo59
@yambo59 7 жыл бұрын
They are in fact commercial washers, and its easy to defeat the lid switch (not if there are kids or idiots around-!-lol) - its in the back under the control panel, no need to even take it apart. Look in with a flashlight and while its washing open the lid to stop the cycle, then looking in you can pull down the switch flap and start the cycle with lid open, then its more evident how to rig it. Some use a clothes pin, I have a small piece of hard rubber wedged into the bottom of the control panel hold the switch lever down. Theres YT videos on it. This is the highest quality of any appliance ive bought in the last 20 years.
@HarleyBadger
@HarleyBadger 7 жыл бұрын
Brian Engineering Nice!!! And yep, what yambo59 said. We used a thick rubber pad to keep the switch from closing.
@yambo59
@yambo59 7 жыл бұрын
I used a surplus piece of Rubber from the edge of an interlocking harbor freight floor mat kit, that way if the machine ever needs service I can yank the rubber without having to lay a wrench on it, but most anything will work. Don't want the service man to think ive been tinkering now do I-? lol You can also raise the top of the washer and make a short two female terminal jumper wire to bypass the lid switch electrically, be sure to tape or insulate the terminals if you do this so it doesn't short out on the underside of the cabinet-! Its easily done but its a little more involved and takes a bit more time to reverse if that becomes necessary. You can also tweak the water level to come up to the top set of tub holes on the (extra large) water level setting, though its not really necessary. If you decide to do it unplug the machine while working inside the control panel. It requires a (slight) adjustment to the screw on the water level control going in quarter turn steps, usually no more than one turn total clockwise depending on which control valve your machine has, and you must reset the water level knob on the front of the control panel fully to the right after each adjustment till it clicks each time you change the setting inside to observe the water level results of each adjustment. Its easily done and there's a couple videos for it on YT, check the videos first to make sure you have the jist. But do it carefully in small quarter turn inicrements as you could end up flooding the room or maybe damaging the control if too heavy handed, the hex headed screw on mine was small and the adjustment is fairly sensitive. I only had to bring my water level up about an inch or so to just below the top set of holes - do not go any further than the top set of holes.

+focusonthegreen Thanks for watching! The Maytag pair is in the warehouse still, we have all the tools and access to the parts, but haven't had the time to do it. Lately, we have been working on the house a lot. It's also a time issue, between our schedules, Spats and I only have two days off together (and my job keeps me away from home for 3 days at a time.) One of those days we run errands and go shopping (that's when we VLOG,) and so it ends up really being only a day and a half. No place to use them yet either, our laundry area and basement are getting ready for a complete remodel.

Also everyone, FYI in 2018 the govt. is making regulations even stricter and cracking down on Speed Queen specifically water levels. In another year my local salesman tells me even Speed Queen will not be what it was. Anything the government sticks its nose in gets ruined. Emissions and safety are a big part of why cars cost what a house used to.

I just went and ordered my new speed queen top loader today-- latest info says after this year there wont be any more knob models - all SQ washers will be touchpads even the Laundromat models. I know from cars electronic circuit boards water and vibration do not mix, more to go wrong more expensive to repair - yet the major retail brands insist on shoving it down our throats with crappy warranties to boot, except for SQ who have the best warranty in the industry. Tuesday Ill have a brand new speed queen top loader and my still running 40 year old GE filter flo as a back up if needed. Ill see first hand if my new SQ is all its supposed to be and come back here for an update either way - hopefully it lives up to the reviews.

Well in many cases this is because after experiencing what passes for quality appliances today we get a wake up call that makes us ecstatic to go to Speed Queen to get something built like it should be that works, and after those bad experiences were ecstatic to find the last vestige of quality in SQ. I grew up in an era when we took it for granted we would get longevity and performance for our name brand money, anyone remember the lonely maytag repairman-? Don't hear much from him anymore do we-? Now he's working overtime on junk appliances and we are forced to pay exhorbitant prices for cheaply built govt. reg. crippled appliances that hide behind fancy circuit boards that pretend to give us more options but really take control away from us that we had with a simple mechanical knob timer. Today Washers have software and circuit boards that, as everyone knows do not do well in harsh environs with humidity and vibration - yet they force this error and failure prone throw away scrap metal on us and expect us to buy another one every three to five years. Meanwhile we allow ourselves to become acclimated to this as the new norm. Pretty soon they will have us using machines that employ filters that recycle the same water over and over instead of fresh water in each wash to save water-LOL Don't laugh, were talking about the govt. here.
@KingOfBattle119
@KingOfBattle119 7 жыл бұрын
The government is singlehandedly destroying these appliances. I have a relative who works at the Ripon, WI Speed Queen plant. The engineers are doing their best to continue to build effective machines, but the govt keeps making the standards more and more stringent. SUPER stoked I got quality machines now, won't have to sweat getting a new set for another 20+ years.

I am loving my speed queen Duo. I do have a question about the water level. The tub only fills up about three quarters of the way. I have been using the water level knob to fill it up. Do you know if the water level is adjustable?
@HarleyBadger
@HarleyBadger 7 жыл бұрын
It is if you are handy. Unplug power, disassemble the control panel area, and you will see the pressure switch (has a rubber tube coming out of it.) There is a little screw on the mechanism that you adjust, 1/4 turn at a time, to set the water level.
@yambo59
@yambo59 7 жыл бұрын
Yeah its an easy adjustment to raise the water level, but first be aware if you should need warranty service a technician would notice this and it (might) void your warranty. Anyway, that said be careful and do the adjustment in small increments, I did mine and don't think I had to turn it (in) more than 1/4 to 1/2 turn, I stopped just below the top set of holes. theres a couple videos on how to do it on YT - I did that and with no kids around I blocked the lid switch open and now I have the old school washer like I grew up with-lol

+Jerome Davis I agree 100%. The way he washers supposedly and allegedly clean is based on complete misinformation. I have owned both, and there is a significant and I mean night and day difference between traditional washers and high efficiency. Traditional washers are high effective instead of high efficiency although as you said they are also more efficient because they do the job right the first time. How anyone can live with clothes that are barely clean ( I'm being very generous when I say that ) is beyond me. Some people must love stink lol!
@HarleyBadger
@HarleyBadger 8 жыл бұрын
+Mike Bennett +Jerome Davis well, let me at Itsmegp46, I can tell you one thing for certain... This washer (when used as three loads per week, as we do,) costs an average of $9 a year. Again, that's NINE DOLLARS A YEAR to operate. LG's most efficient front-loader, the WM3170CW, uses $8 a year. ONE DOLLAR per year savings. However, it does not perform as well as the SQ top-loader featured in this video, and per Consumer Reports, the LG should be REPLACED every FIVE YEARS due to longevity! So the LG saves $5 throughout its useful life, and then you gotta pay another $719 to replace it. There's NO SAVINGS, only the effect of ADVERTISING and MARKETING, which makes idiots out of normally intelligent people.
@mikebennett703
@mikebennett703 8 жыл бұрын
+harleybadger1 I'm even more impressed now! 9 dollars for a year's worth of laundry is pretty small coin for excellent cleaning. The full tub traditional washers have been around for almost a century for good reason. They can't and won't be beat!

I just got an AWNE92S and I noticed with the lid up that the tub tilted to the right and front and I noticed yours does the same during agitate. I triple checked the leveling all good so it must be normal caused by the 210 degree shifting and rotation of motor.
@HarleyBadger
@HarleyBadger 7 жыл бұрын
It's an artifact of the heavy-duty tub suspension. Totally normal.
@yambo59
@yambo59 7 жыл бұрын
I was concerned about it too in my SQ, but ive checked into it extensively including a call or two to Speed Queen and it appears no one has a pat answer as to why they do this, but its a fact they all do it, and the direction they lean is totally random but it appears to be completely normal. I leveled mine within an inch of its life at least three times and it still does it, really bugs me but im a nitpicker anyway. if it wasn't under warranty I might experiment with adding another tub balance spring in the left rear corner as mine leans to the right front-lol I wish someone had a provable answer on why do it. But it does not seem to affect operation in the least, not on mine anyway.

GNX157 Hi. I just sent an email to alliance about my SQ washer leaning to the right front while washing. I do find this strange but the washer is doing a wonderful job. I did make the water adjustment so that I do get a full tub of water each time. Very easy to do.

Ive always wondered about the lean too mine leans to the right front as well, though some lean in other directions. I really like my washer and even though ive been told from different sources its normal im sort of an nit picker as I used to be a mechanic and it bugs me. Though as I repeatedly hear its not supposed to be a problem. Ive even looked inside mine and cant find a thing wrong. I have a couple theorys on why they do it, but im just guessing.

I've also found Speed Queen is the only real high quality US top load washing machine still being made. I have a 40 year old GE heavy duty Filter flo and its really built well and still runs great. But the outer wash tub is rusting out and when that goes its all she wrote as there are no replacements unless you luck into a good used one. So I feel theres a new Speed Queen in my future. I really cant afford it as they are expensive, but I would be a fool to spend $500 on the throw away junk theyre passing off as washers now. Even Maytag is junk, I went and looked at everything and none have the warranty and build quality of the Speed Queen. At my age it will be the last washer I ever buy.

your statement is just flat out false. i know from my own experience, our front load LG steam series does a great job and i can do a load of laundry in 15 minutes. now - we are not farmers or lumberjacks, maybe there are various sets of data that when included would make a front load not as good as an agitator - but to flat out say all washers without agitators are junk, is just to be wrong and proud of it. Millions and millions of people use them every day. so include the special data that means that FOR YOU, you believe you need an agitator to get the job done. i'm considering getting speed queen for our rental properties as 1. they seem to be built better and 2. they're not very sexy so i am thinking may not have to worry as much about people trying to move them out when they go.

OMG the washers at Lowes and Home Depot are junk. Don't be memorized by the colored plastic and music, Speed Queen is the only company today building washers that will last and get your clothes clean. If you have to have a fancy front loader with bells and whistles, spend the coin and go Meile.

That was my first impression also when I looked at new washers for the first time a couple months ago--junk. Im no engineer but all one has to do is look at the marked difference in overall build quality and what passes for an "agitator" along with the comically low water level to see how the govt. regs have forced them to resort to selling these junk machines as "high efficiency innovations". Im curious how this will play out in a few more years after a larger number of consumers realize they have been scammed after having to buy two or three of these HE junk piles inside of ten or less years. Then to make matters worse, they'll also realize theres almost no real quality washers left, and the SQ washers aren't cheap either, there are no $400 speed queens-lol but theres plenty of $300 HE washers at your local box store, buy two on sale while youre there and save time, youll be needing them--lol--Or yes, get a Speed Queen.

All these new washing machines without the classic agitator in the middle replaced with the new "impeller" but the newer machines seem like they barley wash the clothes. Even though speed queen is not really HE it still cleans clothes more efficiently then the new washing machines plus they seem to last longer because my friend had a newer HE washing machine and due to imbalance it tore up the wash drum. The machine was suppose to stop the load from spinning but it failed to do so and broke it. Now he has a speed queen lel
@HarleyBadger

Ha! yup, they don't clean very well, in fact, some of the newer ones barely even get the clothes wet. Wet clothes tumbling around just aren't the same as them being submerged in detergent water.

Every new HE washer we've tried has been absolute garbage. Tried a Samsung front load and another top load model. The front load was the worst as if you left it to its own devices, it would just tumble damp clothes. Towels were even worse, as I'd stop it mid cycle, and some of them would actually have dry spots. It's a joke.

Must be why Samsung now has a washer with a washboard sink built into the thing, hell that's why they invented washers in the first place so ya wouldn't have to use a damn washboard-! lol Jerks sell ya a $1000 washer then tell you to use the built in washboard-LOL

yambo59 Alot of people find good use in the washboard. I own a Samsung WA48H7400AW that does a competent enough job that doesn't require having to pretreat any tough stains. I post Stain Challenges on my channel that I reveal the results. Thus far I'm impressed. But, this week I'll be getting dirty with motor oil. It'll be a perfect opportunity to display it's washing ability. 😄 In any which case, my wife and I love our unit.

I'm disappointed to see that at the spray rinse feature comes in too early (11:35). Speed Queen needs to reprogram their machines so that the spray rinse feature starts when all of the water is actually spun out and the machine is at top spin speed.

That's how it works on my AWN432 machine. Only after all the water is drained and the tub is spinning fast does the spray rinse kick in.
@Sharkie626
@Sharkie626 7 жыл бұрын
By that point of the spray rinse, the water is being held outside the clothing and along the outer tub, even if not fully drained yet. The suds removal is quite effective. It also lasts 50 seconds, something no modern machine does today!
