Josh, this video is great. That sphere shape got me with a real hankering to make some fancy high-detail pokeballs, though.

Thanks Josh as always man. I have been doing a 1 hour a day “play with shapes” exercise - I need to increase time I think to actually practicing instead of watching lectures

Ps… that 260 segment cut that creates that grate like affect in the inner sphere is beautiful!!! What an awesome idea

I like that kind of short exercises. Simple, short and easy to follow but strengthen the memory of techniques. I'm looking forward to this in the future. Thx a lot for tutorial!

Great tutorial, as always, but one question; when you rounded off the box cut instead of creating a cylinder, deleting the back and front faces and running a solidifier before cutting couldn't you have simply used an intersect boolean? I'm presuming there's a rationale to doing it your way and I'm still learning Blender so I'm curious.

Great tutorial, but one thing really bugged me. Since you started with a UV sphere with all the horizontal vertices running parallel, it seems like it would have been more ideal (at least for a cleaner cut) to rotate it 90º before cutting into it so that the cuts matched the parallel vertices. Maybe you’ve reached a point where you don’t worry about that sort of thing since you have the tools and methods to clean it all up regardless, but it just seemed like something I would have done. Any reason for doing it this way rather than the way I mentioned? I know you also seem to usually use a quad sphere so it intrigued me to see you even using a UV sphere at all haha.

@@JoshGambrell I see. You are amazing modeller. I use Geometry nodes, but have problems with good shading and geometry. To fix it, need to inspirate with your tutorials. :D

Hii i have question, how would you do to make quads on that 3d object for a videogame usage?
@JoshGambrell
@JoshGambrell 2 жыл бұрын
I wouldn’t. I’d triangulate it beforehand. If I needed quads for some specific reason (i.e. trim sheets, cleaner unwraps, VFX, etc) I’d just use Quad Remesher or retopo manually.

Just yesterday I was making a sphere with a cylinder cut on it.. it was a mess and I was fixing it all manually... But all I really needed was to cut the sphere with a box at start... eh
