When you go back and watch this movie again (and I know you will), notice how the backgrounds in Gwen's world are 'watercolored' like a mood ring...when you pair that with the emotions in each scene it adds such a layer of depth to the story-telling via art. This movie was easily one of the best in-theater experiences I've had in a very long time! Glad you enjoyed it.

Beyond the Spiderverse was originally slated for next March or April but between the studios not being willing to respect their workers and some concerns about some unnecessary crunch with this one it does seem likely we may have to wait a bit longer. It's frustrating, but if it means everyone gets paid enough to keep food in their bellies and a roof over head and have time to tell the story with the incredible art they intend to I'd gladly wait another 5 years

I think few people will tell you this, but there is a deeper meaning to having Donald Glover as Uncle Aaron. In the premier of Community Season 2 Donald Glover, that wanted to be cast as Spider-Man, wore a Spiderman pajamas, it was one of the heavy inspirations that the creators had on the creation of Miles in 2011. (The idea of creating a black Spider-Man was already being talked after Obamas election, but nothing concrete was developed until Miles. When Miguel says he is the original anomaly in a meta way this is interesting, for there were other Spider-Man before in "What ifs" and other universes like 2099, (Miguel himself), but in a way they were all very based of Peter Parker, Miles is probably the catalyst to another bunch of spider people being created in other universes because of his immense popularity, at least this is my read.

Miguel actually doesnt have a spider sense, he just has heightened senses. They subtly hint at it when hes able to get ambushed by the paper Vulture in his first scene when he's talking to Gwen. It also feels like this movie uses that as the reason he doesnt quip or make jokes like the other spider people. He doesnt have the luxury of being constantly aware of his surroundings so in fights he has to be 100% focused on what hes doing.

He didn't just play Uncle Aaron who was the prowler in one of the live action movies with Tom Holland, he was also the inspiration itself for Miles Morales like the person who created Miles Morales planned on basing him around that actor that I can't remember the name of for some reason. If he's at all like his comics counterpart, then his suit shouldn't be accommodating for any of his abilities, except for the laser webbing which is a pretty obvious change in this version. In the comics all of his powers were the result of his DNA being permanently spliced with a spider's DNA - talons that come out of his fingers and toes to climb, increased strength, accelerated vision/night vision, venomous fangs and (in the comics) organic webbing. Fun fact - he was the first Spider-Man to have organic webbing when his comics debuted in 1992.

The 3rd movie was never going to come out next year regardless of the strike. They originally wanted to do so and planned to produce Across and Beyond simultaneously but Across needed so much work it got to the point where nothing was done for Beyond and they worked on Across fully up to the premiere. The delay is being stated as being indefinite too, not just by a year. If the strike ends this year it’ll be at least 3 years from now that we’ll see it given how much time and work goes into making these and the fact that the script hasn’t been completed.

@@JD-jz5guThe plan was for a March 2024 release but it’s been revealed that was never going to happen by people actually working on the movie because their plan of producing both was too ambitious. Beyond wasn’t able to be produced because Across required all hands on deck by the team and certain people like Phil Lord wasted a ton of time of the animation team. It’s actually not unusual at all in Hollywood for studios to announce release dates for movies that aren’t complete, barely in production, or don’t even have scripts yet. This is why a lot of movies now end up feeling rushed.

Part 2 will be called Spider-Man: Beyond The Spider-Verse. It was meant to come out this year, but it's been taken off of Sony's release calendar, there's evidence that it won't be finished in time to make that date (Hailee Steinfeld mentioned in an interview that took place right after this one came out that she hadn't recorded anything for it yet) and the strike obviously doesn't help. So we may have to wait until 2025 or even 2026 for that cliffhanger to be resolved. Childish Gambino auditioned for Peter for The Amazing Spider-Man. We're not entirely sure what went down, but he apparently had reason to believe he didn't get the part due to being black. Naturally there was quite a bit of backlash and discourse throughout the internet in response to this news getting out, and this in turn lead to the Marvel being inspired to create a black Spider-Man (Although the concept was already being discussed after Obama was elected, this was what sealed the deal). So Gambino is technically the reason Miles Morales exists. Aside from playing Aaron in the MCU, he also voiced Miles himself in one of the animated shows. The Canon Events are references to events that happened to Peter in the comics that are often carried over in adaptations and other Spider-Men as well. Obviously, an Uncle Ben-style loss is a big one. There's also the police captain dying in the process of saving a child from falling debris - how Captain Stacy died in the comics. Technically, he also died saving a kid in The Amazing Spider-Man - Peter himself. The images in the background of the scene where Miguel explains it to Miles also show other things, such as Peter and Mary Jane's marriage - evidently, not all Canon Events are bad things. Several of the Spider-Men who make background cameos at the Spider-Society's headquarters are from various animated shows. The version from the Insomniac game even makes an appearance. Hobie Brown was the original Prowler in the comics. Aaron was the Prowler in the Ultimate Marvel universe, which is where Miles first came from, and has since become much more well-known than Hobie.

I get why Miguel is considered a villain and knowing how superhero stuff usually goes I'm sure miles made the right choice and will win. But frankly, at this point at least not looking at the meta standpoint.... how can everyone say "how do you know it will destroy anything" the cannon has been broken three times. once when Miguel broke it and wiped out a whole universe, once when miles saved the chief in this film and let's not forget the time strange Supreme brought Christine back. Different universe same outcome, the universe was destroyed. Miguels mistake as I see it is 1610 Miles becoming Spider-Man wasn’t a canon event so anything Miles does probably doesn’t affect the multiverse like the actions of other spidermen/women. Clearly we're supposed to see some merit in Miguel's worldview, but if I were to put my finger on what the flaw in his logic was it would be the difference between events that happen--no matter in how many universes-- naturally vs. purposefully allowing events to happen. Miguel telling Miles he has to let his dad die is clearly flawed logic. The death of someone close to a Spider person does drive them to be a hero, but that drive wouldn't be there if they were told the had to stand by and watch it happen. That would fundamentally alter the impact of the event. There have been plots where a hero has to watch something happen, but always because it had already happened IN that timeline. I might even hazard an opinion that the very fact that Miguel is so used to allowing terrible events to happen might be what has now warped him so far from a hero's character. He's far too okay with it. Off the top of my head I can't think of an example of a utilitarian let-1-die-for-the-greater-good hero.

At 13:16, you can see Earth 42's Miles because of the braids. He was probably going to be bit pretty soon, but the spider got teleported away. I think my major complaint with the movie is that there was too much going on with the animation. What they did was incredible, but sometimes it was hard to focus because so much was happening. I still liked the first one better because I just felt like the overall story was better told. This one felt slow at times.

Fyi Miguel doesn't have spider sense he didn't get bitten by a spider he spliced his DNA with a spider's DNA to live since he had an addiction to a drug made by alchemax and was dying

Close, but not quite. All he tried to do was overwrite his DNA with a DNA sample that was taken from him before he was dosed with Rapture. His coworker Aaron Delgado tried to kill him by mixing in 50% spider DNA while he was in the machine, but he luckily survived without becoming a spider-monster (besides the red eyes, fangs, claws and wrist-spinnerets).
