I think that directional shielding would go against the battle philosophy of the game: I think the game is designed to have quick battles so you can advance through the Slay the Spire map. If all battles take 30 min instead of 10 min, the roguelike aspect (play, die, upgrade, repeat) will not be achievable. At least that's the way I understand the game

Three categories: Indie, for independently funded project teams. AAA or Produced, for games paid for by a production firm (like Sony, Microsoft, EA) and thusly the game design is influenced by them. Finally a new one I use-Classic Dev, for developers taking the classic investment and loan route for funding but running a AAA-grade studio as things were done in the golden age of PC gaming circa 1999. This studio falls into this category.

Ikr! Those last two are the true meat and potatoes of the game. It makes sense though that the earlier fights as VASTLY weaker tho. You need that build up and leveling up or have NO chance. Unfortunate but that's just how these are. Hopefully they can add more diverse types. Along maybe a few more interactions and mechanics. To spice it up and make it more interesting overall. Though only having to do like a handful of shitty fights to get to a few decent ones is much better than many in this type of game. Hopefully permanent progression helps with speeding up making the start more interesting. Kind of like Dead Cells.

I've always thought the retro crt and similar 'tech' made a certain degree of sense. It's usually pretty robust and durable. Likely also WAY easier to mass produce in lower tech colonies and stuff. Possible to jerry rig and repair WITHOUT star trek levels of handwavium. The ability to create a modern smartphone would be near impossible on anything but a fully developed colony/station. The levels of material refinement and processing would be like 10x more costly and difficult to get and setup than the Alien-esque retro tech. Lords above and below, people can and HAVE hand built retro computers. They literally were only made by hand for the longest time. Without the massive industrial and chemical infrastructure required to make modern levels of tech would be VASTLY reduced in massively smaller ships and stations for that older tech. A LOT more base compatibility on components, ruggedness from having to be built by clumsy humans, etc.

I really dig the idea of making direction a more important factor. Feels like it'd be kinda... weak if you just pushed a button to determine shield allocation or whatever. Like, just not very engaging while being additional clicks, slowing things down. Maybe there's a solution in running two decks that represent the port and starboard halves of the ship. That way they behave kinda independently based on whatever action economy is currently available. Might allow for some interesting abilities that sacrifice economy for one side of the ship to improve the other.
@littlekong7685 Жыл бұрын
Even having deck slots, 4 sides to use, each with certain buff slots you can apply to all cards on that side... but if damaged, you can lose buffs/degrade cards on that side (Eg: All shields played on this facing have +1, all guns from this side do +1 range). But also the deck would draw in sequence from those sides. So you could do 1) Shield> 2) Attack> 3)Heat/Shield> 4) Specials/Attack> 1) Shield. Give a lot of flexibility to your deck configuration, lots of control, and have powers or enemy attacks to disorganize this. eg. When hit, randomize rotation order for 2 turns, or passive crew power randomly draw 1 card from other rotation each turn at 1 less power.
@rainbowkrampus Жыл бұрын
@@littlekong7685 Hm, I'd want to see it in practice. Would the buffs persist? I like sticking to the idea that everything refreshes with each new hand. Reduces the amount of stuff to keep track of. I could see room for a game that goes for maximal complexity. Multiple decks accounting for different sections of the ship. A command points system. Cards persisting between hands. The whole nine yards. But in terms of the game in the video, seems like quick and breezy is part of the design ethos.
@littlekong7685 Жыл бұрын
@@rainbowkrampus Passive ship buffs could help with speed. Have 4 balanced decks, each one with a different artifact buff to them, or do each deck a min-maxed optimized artifact synergy tool, like a super shield buff deck and a super damage output deck. Once in place, the artifact is passive, no need to hope for draw combos, and you can know the next deck coming up. instead of getting into the combo draw death spiral where things come up out of order and screw your synergies.

With a grid playboard like that I was honestly hoping for a 3D chess element. Some cards or game function that let you move above and below the main battle area for bonus damage, evasion buffs to shields, or something similar. I kind of want the treasure phase to be jazzed up a little too. Griftlands and other deckbuilders have spoiled me a little with that, revealing new cards with alt build potential, with a sparky-shaky pizzazz.

@elonwhatever Жыл бұрын
As an explanation to Bluedevil's little comment. "Their" is a possessive, it marks something belonging to someone else. e.g. "It's their car". "Their time to shine." "They're" is a contracted form of "They are". Subject and verb leading into an object. "They are not taking steps ("making steps" is not really the phrase that we use in English) in the right direction. Other examples: "They are tired" "They corrected the grammar of that sentence". Their and They're are homophones (words which sound the same but are written differently and have a different meaning) which is why it's easy to get them confused. But if you mix up homophones in writing it comes across as hella odd.
