Max SINGLE jump/splice is about 12’. Anything beyond that won’t work without a booster/light spliced in. You can have multiple jumps throughout your setup, so long as none of them are longer than 12’.

How did you figure this out?
@Dads_DIY_TX2 ай бұрын
@ look at the “long jump solved” video on the channel. I talk about it in the first part.
@rayphillips815Ай бұрын
Can confirm, my 14ft jump resulted in flickering of last 2 of 6 of downstream lights. Cut that 14ft down to two 7ft lengths and spliced in the govee 4ft extension with booster, but then nothing lit past the jump. Trying the single light puck spliced into midpoint, hoping that works.
@Dads_DIY_TXАй бұрын
@ have to make sure your wires are oriented correctly. You can “match” them but still be backwards. See FLICKERING! video on my channel.

@Dads_DIY_TX thanks for reply, all flow directuon was correct. Ended up installing a single spare light puck in the middle of my 14ft jump, all lights worked after that.

I've read in the comments that 12' is the maximum you can make a run before you start experiencing flickering and other issues. I have the 100' Outdoor Pro Kit and need to make a 28' run down the side of my house. I was planning on making two 8' cables with the 12' extension in the middle of them to hopefully boost the signal. My extension would go Light Strand - 8' Homemade Extension Cable - 12' Govee extension - 8' Custom Extension Cable - Light Strand. I would think that this would work.
@Dads_DIY_TXАй бұрын
So long as that factory extension has the boosters on the end, should be good!
@RuttaggerАй бұрын
Thanks for your reply. From what I can tell all the extensions in the kit have the little rectangle box near the end which I am assuming is the booster. It's crazy Govee doesnt just sell dofferent length extenders, booster, power control boxes, etc. I guess they want you to spend another $400 on a kit. With your help Ill be using every single foot of my 100' kit to do everything I need. Thanks again.

If you’re referring to extensions/jumpers, I have a 48’ jump (lights every 12’). Confident I could go well beyond that.

I get people need to make a living, and if you don’t want the hassle of DIYing, and have that kind of money to spend on some lights, sure. I, myself, do not!
@Dads_DIY_TX3 ай бұрын
And I’m ok with it taking me days/weeks cause lights just aren’t priority in my life. And of course you have all the things you learn along the way, more like setbacks, but the majority can be overcome. Patience and an understanding going into it that you will mess something up, somewhere….unless you have an extremely simple house/design.

I just did 200 ft on a home with 3 high peaks and a very steep roof. I charged $1000 but took of 200 because we wasted two sections of lights. So $800, I believe that was to cheap I'd be comfortable at $1500

I saw another video where the guy use 16 gauge single wire? Would that still work?
@Dads_DIY_TX3 ай бұрын
Wire is wire at the end of the day. I’m sure it would work. I’m not an electrician so I don’t know what the differences are. I just know the 18 works because thats what I used.
@kennywong23513 ай бұрын
16, 18 ga are thickness of the wires. So they are all working prefectly

16 will just give you more metal in your wire it's slightly thicker

If I have a total of 240’ (with 4 total jumps - none longer than 2ft). Would I be able to get that all on one run with a booster or 2 in one of the jumps?
@Dads_DIY_TX2 ай бұрын
Fairly certain you can’t go further than 200’ lighted length on one power supply/controller, and that’s with pros.

And yes if your jumps are only 2’ ish, no need for a booster. Only at 12’ and beyond

Ive heard that to when splitting cords for govee pro you should do groups of 4. In other words if i had excess of 2 on a strand, dont cut kust those off... any advice or knowledge about this?
@Dads_DIY_TX2 ай бұрын
I’ve cut my 2s all over the place with zero regard for where I’m at in the strand. Zero issues. Can’t speak for pros, but wire is wire, don’t see why it would matter where you cut/splice.

Lets say I have 2, 3 feet jumps and 1 10 foot jump. Can I power all this with 1 power supply?
@Dads_DIY_TX2 ай бұрын
Yes you can. Jumps don’t become an issue until you hit 12’ (for non-pros, slightly more for Pros). And even then, you can splice in a booster/light acting as a booster and continue on another 12’, and continue that pattern.

They come with 12 ft extensions... any 1 run much over this length will cause issues/flickering. This because of the middle DATA cable. If you need to make a 20ft run I would splice 1 of the lights in the middle so it boosts the signal strength,
@Dads_DIY_TX3 ай бұрын
@@CraigCarns-ek6xithis seems to be accurate. Had someone attempt a 15’ jump and had issues with lights not working on the other end. They spliced a light in the jump and it fixed the problem. I will test how far you can jump without a light/booster on Sunday and report back.
