I loved my trips to London as a kid, when my mum and i would go to stay with my Aunt Hilda in Battersea. Arriving at Marylebone from Aylesbury in the 80's was something special. The sights, sounds and smells, all heralded another new London adventure! Yes, the trains and tube were old, dirty and slow, and the stations leaved a lot to be desired also, but I loved it all!

@@AFCManUk ditto. My experience was The burbs of Dorking to Surbiton, then my aunt took me on London day trips. We did all the stations, all the tv stations, all the radio places (like Euston tower for capital radio). It was brilliant, the grimy tube was the best!

Nice one Mark - I enjoyed this trip down memory lane. Seeing the semaphore signals and the older DMUs. Cheers, Brian

Ah the crazy practice of inpatient commuters swinging the slam doors open well before the train has stopped! Great memories, thanks for posting.

A lovely piece of railway history. People back then probably wouldn’t have thought Marylebone would be thriving in the 21st century. It was cited for closure during some of the 80s, I believe.

Great video! Brings back memories, remember steam speacials and period dramas here, turntable as well? Also remember EThELS and Class15 heating units here, there was ridiculous talk of closing this station in the early 80s

Those old 115's. . . I recall a couple of trips to and from Marylebone, where the driver would forget to put the lights on in some carriages and we'd end up going through the Hampstead and St John's Wood tunnels in pitch darkness! lol

Brilliant video, absolutely brilliant. So many memories! You'll have to forgive my failing little grey cells, but was this at the time when only platforms 4, 5 & 6 were in use? Thank you so much for sharing. I can't believe how much the area has changed - its great that the station is now fully utilised, but the Diesel Depot is sadly missed. I wonder what the residents of the swanky new flats, built on the depot, would make of the colourful language that was often levelled at a recalcitrant Leyland Albion that refused to start at 04.20!!

@@spompeyNo problem, thanks for taking the time to reply. I must say that it is so refreshing to watch a video that is filmed with a tripod, and that isn't interrupted by flashy graphics and effects - the content is of high enough quality to speak for itself. Really well done. Its a pet hate of mine when the flow if an otherwise very good production is ruined by the editor showing the latest flashy transition or graphics. This is A very high quality product, and it is much appreciated. Kind Regards, Zac
