Have you noticed any issues only using 1 gallon of water? My manual says to fill up to the machined line, which requires 2 gallons. I would imagine this is so the entire heating element remains submerged. Filling with 1 gallon would leave the top section of the heating element out of the water, so I just wasn't sure if that would be an issue. Using 1 gallon would certainly be more convenient and energy efficient! It takes sooooooo long to get up to pressure using 2 gallons. Plus I have to distill 2 gallons of water to use it, so that energy cost would be cut in half as well. Thanks for the video!
@SporenSprout
@SporenSprout Жыл бұрын
I don’t fill to the machined line, I fill until right above the element and that works best for me everytime and the water is still slightly above the element after the sterilization cycle.

@@SporenSprout Awesome, thank you for the reply! And you haven't noticed any extra corrosion or degradation of the heating element on the non-submerged section? Is the electric model worth the extra cost? I see the stovetop model is way cheaper. What are the advantages of the electric model?

Yes, I would say so. The main advantage is not having to use a stove and being able to set a timer and walk away from the machine until the cycle is finished.
@Invisible_Difference
@Invisible_Difference Жыл бұрын
@@SporenSprout I've heard that the temperature is more variable when using stovetop models and thus you have to keep an eye on it. Is this what you're referring to? Is it really a big deal if the temperature isn't as stable? Isn't the important thing just that your temperature is above a certain level (120-130°C)? I'll probably shell out the extra money and go electric, but I'm still curious about this.
@SporenSprout
@SporenSprout Жыл бұрын
@@Invisible_Difference Not really, the stove top version you will never be able to just walk away simply because you can’t just plug your stove into a timer and have it shut off when it’s done automatically. The electric model has a built in thermostat and keeps it within 15 psi range.

You want to rid all the air out before it reaches 15 (removing all air pockets and displacing with steam). If you burp there will be a very quick pressure change which could damage bags, filters, crack glass or overflow lC’s etc. the manual says it’s safe to but they are referring to items not affected by drastic pressure changes like used in sterilizing tattoo equipment, dental tools etc. hope that helps …

Does the guage read ìn PSI or something else? Some gages don't read in PSI but if you look up the equivalent, it will tell you what PSI it is actually reading. If it is an actual pressure cooker with a wobble weight on top, it will only got to 15PSI before it wobbles and releases the pressure, keeping it at 15psi.
