Welcome to BardCore or The Ren-aissance Amy, he was born in Wales but grew up and busks in Brighton in England....the mind blowing thing about all this is that all his followers on youtube got behind him so much when he released an album that it went to number one in the albums chart in the UK , without any record label backing, all self created and released by Ren and his friends. Most of his stuff has such great stories to tell & he's been described as a modern day bard and so his 'genre' is being labelled Bardore. Also his fanbase are Renegades. He leaves a lasting impression & the more you learn about him the more you get out of his stories. There's almost nothing new here musically, lyrically or visually - but the presentation & performance become so much more than the sum of its parts - he's a legend. He admits that his musical content might have turned out more mundane had he not been through the massive medical/psychological grinder of his illness & other life experiences. Just jump in and you won't disappointed, especially by how wide he casts his net for influences. IMO, check out 'Sick Boi', 'Crutch', 'Tale of Jenny & Screech' (full version, d'uhhh), 'Money Game' (parts I, II & III), 'The Hunger', etc., etc., etc.,......

Some random thoughts and insights from having watched Hi Ren a ludicrous number of times: 1) the first thing that hit me in this song was when he delivers the line "...deep down you know that, deep down you know I'm always in periphery." and I realized how fully immersed he was in the character. He wasn't just singing, he was acting. 2) His breath control is insane. The audio for this is one take, live. Try rapping along with him and you'll quickly realize there is almost nowhere to breathe. 3) What makes this so effective is that he didn't make "bad" Ren a simple bully. He's usually making good an valid points, albeit from a consistently negative, self-sabotaging perspective. And that means we can't just dismiss him and what he's saying. 4) The take-home message when he starts what I call the ""Hope rebuttal" is highlighted not just by the introduction of a handheld camera, but it is also the first time Ren looks at the camera, showing that he's talking to us as well as to his "bad" half. The whole thing is effing genius.

You are the first person I've seen make that comment about his breath control. It's INSANE. I tried even just speaking it along with him and it was impossible.
@ScottyRosencrance-dq4pj6 ай бұрын
@@andrewdavidson665it’s impossible for 99% of humans. 99.6% probably I saw a reactor who thought she knew everything and that it was impossible to breathe the way he did. She said there was a ton of editing at the end. She had no idea it was a 1 take, 1 and a couple second splice at most. I was offended by her saying that it wasn’t possible. So there for he is lying. They are lying about his abilities. We’ve never witnessed a ren before I have watched reactions for lots of years and the melting that ren is doing to the internet, has never been close to matched

He is truly a genious. One thing i also noticed is the difference on how he plucks his guitar at the beginning and in the end. Compare at 1:34 and 9:39. In the intro you can hear how hard he is hitting the notes on the guitar. Just as hard as the tough time he is having it mentally, not knowing how to deal with his problem and mental health. And then if you hear at the end he goes to a much softer plucking on his guitar, more smooth. Just as when he has learned how to deal with it somehow. As he is explaining in the end. He learned to relax.

I feel so envious of your sister. Often when I watch reactions about this, I realize early on from people's expressions that they know what it's like (and often at that point feel a kinship, it being nice to know others struggle too... often people I wouldn't expect to struggle with this kinda thing...). She kept smiling and listening to an external story, not an internal struggle she knows. She heard more of a story about music industry struggle it seems. Which is ofc alright too. What I wouldn't do to...... be a person like that. Still, absolutely no bad word intended for your sister. She is truely lucky! I'm glad she was curious! Thank you for the reaction... It's just that by the time of the sentence "you gotta kill you if you wanna kill me", I started to struggle my own inner voice who I'd want to get rid of, but know I probably never will and which will likely ensure I will stay single for the rest of my life. (10 years, 8 months and counting, age 40)^ _sigh_ it would be so nice to be healthy....

Ren is actually from a small village on Anglesey in North Wales. He moved to Brighton in England. His diction is a consequence of Welsh influence where consonants and vowels are pronounced clearly. Many of the best British singers are from Wales...

It amazes me how many reactors don't react to the best line in this song, "some people know me as hope, some people know me as the voice that you hear when you loosen the noose on the rope," that is powerful to me. But seems to be neglected by reactors. This is about an internal battle and those of us that have that battle can sometimes struggle with thoughts of Suicide. He's saying he's here, he's been there and he's trying to help through his music.

Ren is from Wales, not England, or you could say the UK, so he is Welsh, or British, not English. Ren Erin (Eryn) Gill: In Welsh, Ren is a ruler or bird. In Gaelic, “Ren” is an anglicized form of the name “Ó Rinn,” which signifies “descendant of Rinn.” The Gaelic name “Rinn” possibly derives from the word “reann,” meaning “spear.” Erin has Irish and Gaelic roots, Erin is derived from the Irish word “Éirinn,” which means “Ireland.” You may have heard the phrase 'Erin go Braugh,' which is the anglicisation of an Irish language phrase, Éirinn go Brách which roughly translated is "Ireland Forever." Given his first and middle name, it is likely his surname, Gill, is of Irish origin and ancestry. Irish ancestry is common in Wales and Scotland. He's not an actual bard, he is a musician/artist with works that have been called 'bardcore' for their narrative story telling and style. In the 'Bardcore' vein, I'd expect Amy to geek out over 'The Tales' trilogy. You have a rather short Ren Playlist, you need to expand it to Ren's other styles. I won't repeat my post about Ren and my song recommendations here, just reference it from your 'Hi Ren' reaction: (kzbin.info/www/bejne/o5CTnptoeblriKc&lc=UgyQliTEG-hfoqkLU6l4AaABAg)

Your sisters response to Hi Ren is very insightful. If you’re wondering? When he looks directly into the camera it’s called breaking the fourth wall. On stage it can be called an aside, but it’s still breaking the barrier between the artist and the audience. Think of the fourth wall as a television screen…the separation between you and what you’re watching. Most times it’s very deliberate…to grab the audience’s attention, including them, and to make an important point. To deliver a message. In film it’s…looking down the barrel of the lens. He is a deliberate artist, and by including the audience (with this technique) makes the experience personal. Truthful. You were closely watching your sister throughout her first reaction. 👍

I think a consistently undervalued moment in this song is when he says "Played on guitar!" It's the first time he directly engages with his inner persecutor on the persecutor's own terms, instead of redirecting or trying to de-escalate. His next line after that is the first heartbroken "fuck you".
@gorwooken93386 ай бұрын
The reason this connects so well is because it’s the battle we ALL fight within ourselves. Christ and Anti, Yin and Yang, Positive and Negative, Light and Dark.. whatever titles you want to give them, they were born in all of us. It’s all cyclical or a sliding scale, back and forth.. the only downfall is that we don’t know how bad it gets before it gets better, and vice versa.. REN is an example of consciousness coming back to light from the darkest depths.

I fell in love with this piece of art, nearly 1 year ago, specialy because of the honesty you gals talk about. The way he calls himself out. Because it is pretentious, there is a certain god complex there, he even comes out and say he thinks he's a genius. And normally we would dismiss someone who revealed those thoughts as an arrogant bastard. Except he's really not, it's human, and we are all pretentious, we all have a good complex. And Ren fully knows how good he is as an artist (thought he also has the fragilities and doubts that he lets us see here), and he is not arrogant about it at all. He's actually very an extremely humble guy. One because he is actually a wonderful human being. And two I believe, because he makes a councious effort to be and remain that humble and grounded guy. I don't know much about art, but i knew from the moment I saw this, that this was art.

This song kept coming up on my notifications for you tube.. I kept ignoring it.. Ignoring the message that was trying to find its way to me... Today I finally listened.. Today I was set free... Those tears that I kept in I hid them for so long.. I didn't want to be weak.. I have to be seen as strong.. But to be powerful Is to be "Real".. "True Strength " Is saying what you "Feel".. So allow the "in" to come "out".. Let the water flow.. The tears water the soil That helps your soul to grow..❤🙏

Fantastic reaction... really liked to see you react to your sister reacting, so, two reactions in one... hope you keep her here for the Ren rabbit hole! I it will great to see her journey :) You should've told her this, like many other of his videos was a live performance and a one take :) Also, I have to say that you two are very beautiful :)
