I'm Greek from Cyprus. I tried to learn Turkish years ago, but the language is very difficult, especially the grammar. I know Turkish Cypriots and always knew that like Greek Cypriot is a dialect of standard Greek, the same is true with Cyprus Turkish. I also knew and noticed here on this video as well, that some words are the same in the Cyprus dialects, but different in both standard Greek and Turkish. For example, CT bulli (CG pulli), karagolli (karaoli) molohia (moloha), boru (puru), basbalya (paspalia). In standard Turkish and Greek for example: Salyangoz(salingari), korna (korna). Generally, a lot of words are the same in both languages and so is food, music, customs etc. Both people are similar in many ways, but unfortunately politics and blind nationalism on both sides destroys everything. But ordinary people, have nothing to do with this hatred and see friends on the other side.

I see in the internet that there are available books with CD (you can listen to lots of conversations), excercises, important words and even some curiosities (fun facts). Even the prize is not bad at all! The title is, for example: "Polish for Foreigners". I can recommend that one for sure :)

Cypriot Turkish sounds more colloquial and much less formal than Istanbul Turkish. I love both Cypriot Turkish and Istanbul Turkish. I've been learning Modern Standard Arabic for a year. I began to learn Turkisk some time ago and I can say that I find Turkish much more difficult than Arabic as far as phrase construction is concerned. What I like most about Turkish is its sound and its uniqueness and yes, I enjoy learning it day by day.

actually , many words of the cypriots and the way how the words are pronounced are actually also spoken in the Karaman (Karamanids) province in south Anatolia , we even say ya too when we agree about something .. it's a normal thing . i understand that maybe the accent could sound a bit harsh for a Turk from Istanbul but yeah the question actually is : maybe they have Karamanid ancestry ?? like the ' Istanbulians ' have Ottoman ancestry ? it's pretty interesting .

I think our dialect is closer to Azerbaijani Turkish than Istanbul Turkish, but it is definitely closest to the Turkish spoken around the Toros mountain area, this is where many of our ancestors came from after all.

Cypriot Turkish sounds so cheerful and friendly! I actually like it a lot more than our standard dialect of Turkish, haha! Also an interesting thing I caught is how it lacks the "mı/mi/mu/mü" question suffix, so you don't ask "Can I sit here?", just "I sit here?"

Because Cypriot Turkish was influenced by Greek in this subject. Greek language has not question prefix/suffix etc. You can understand that it is a question from speaker's speaking tone.

The cyprus Turkish is highly affected from Greek. Also Cyprus Greek is also affected from Turkish. Thats because in Cyprus Turkish the sentence structure is not like Turkish. For example in Turkish the sentence is like subject-object-verb. But in Cyprus Turkish its like English, Greek etc. Its subject-verb-object. Its kinda like that.

Instead of Subject-Noun-Verb, you should say Subject-Object-Verb. Noun is the general term, it doesn't say whether it is used as the subject or object in a sentence.

Even if Turkish is standardized in formal speaking, there is no distinction of word order between Cyprus Turkish and Standard Turkish. Because except some cases Turkish word order is pretty much flexible.

Because word order is very deeply embedded in the mind of the speaker and a lot of Turkish Cypriots spoke other languages with different before they were Turkified(they chose to follow Turkish customs, and language)some were still until recently only fluent in Greek. So this is a very plausible reason of this, I don't know if any specific reasearch has been done that points the origin of this word order to the above.

Yes but like Cypriot Turkish is not a separate language. The difference between Istanbul Turkish and Cypriot Turkish is just like American English and British English. The Azerbaijan-Turkish is a separate language and you may have a little trouble in communicating with a person who is from Azerbaijan if you are a native Turkish speaker

Ottoman was found by Turks but it was not a best state that we establish. They almost lost their national identity.Turkishness were damaged in times because of their nonTurk implementations. Therefore, they also used arabic,farsian,french words instead of Turkish(Türük,Törük) words. After Republic which is independence of Turkishness, we started to replace nonTurkish words with Turkish words.We still have nonTurkish words but we will replace them. Such as kelime is not Turkish word. Sözcük is Turkish word.That's why other dialects of Turk(Török,türük,türükkü,turan,turanian) language has some different words.

Cyprus Turks dialect is the same as the dialect of Central Anatolia and South Anatolia. It has no difference from the Turkish language which spoken in Turkey...

Cypriot Turkish is similar to Central Anatolian dialect. If you go to the big cities in Central Anatolia, you can hear a language close to this dialect. Istanbul Turkish is a minority dialect in Turkey.

@@Anatolian_Anatolyan Cyprus always used to speak greek. Of course as an island became the target for many empires and that's why genetically is diverse. Greek dna exist on all of them however. Culturally all of them used to be greek speaking greek. Same thing with Asia minor till turks came and spread their language. The chances for you to be turkic turk are very low, so your ancestors used to speak greek for 1500 to 2500 (in case they have islamized recently) as well.

It was hard to spot the differences because the subtitles were still in Standard Turkish when Cypriot Turkish was being spoken (or did she just speak too fast that I missed it?). Can subtitles be added which are written exactly as she says it in Cypriot Turkish, please? I'm half Greek Cypriot and I'm learning Turkish because of its influence on the Greek language there.

It is actually translated exactly as she says it, I think the reason Cypriot Turkish sounds much different than Turkish is because of it's sentence structure or the way you'd pronounce the words.

Yeah the subtitles weren't fair to the Cyprus Turkish. They should have at least put subtitles for the Cyprus Turkish as most of the people understand the Istanbul Turkish without subtitles but they did the other way round.

I am watching this video because I am going to Cyprus in a couple of months and am learning Turkish in preparation. (Ideally, I want to reach level B2, but it will be impressive to reach B1. I think it’s best to aim high and still reach high [even if I don’t attain my goal] than to aim low and end up in the mud.) It is so interesting to think that the Turkish word Battaniye for blanket, is probably the word in Maldives called Batan which is a fabric layer underneath the the outer layer. In our language we have a word called Beyfulhu indicating noble. Fulhu is something we add in respect so, the bey may have come from the the Turkish Bey

Also, for grandchild they say 'angoni' not 'angolemi', and cousin is yeğen (which really means niece or nephew). I also remember 'yok' (there isn't any) being used instead of 'hayır' for 'no'. Other random differences: dari for corn (mısır), yüz numara (number 100) for bathroom, potin for shoes (from botine in Italian), and garnabit for cauliflower çiçek lahanası). I also remember getting sick and having to eat lappa (boiled rice with lemon and salt) many summer holidays there🤣

What is interesting to me as a mainland Turk is that Cypriot Turkish is more similar to the dialects in small villages in Turkey than in big cities in Turkey. Cypriot Turkish may be aegean village dialect plus Azerbaijani and seems to have some Greek and English influence. But still I can understand 100%.

I just heard the word for snail in Turkish Cypriot is karaoli in Greek Cypriot its karaoli(καραολοι) as well in greek is saligkaria (σαλιγκάρια)! Its pretty amazing when you think about it because it shows the influence between the Greek Cypriot and the Turkish Cypriot dialect! 🇬🇷🇨🇾🤝🇹🇷🇨🇾

@@elturco69 yeah i wonder why we made our language so hard to pronounce over time :D İstanbul Turkish is hard even for native speakers to speak comfortably like öğreneceğim, yapıyorsunuz etc. As we can see from the way the village or the central Anatolian people speak, we tend to make things easier to say in a language so it goes from yapıyorsun, yapıyosun to yapıyon but that's not the case for Istanbul Turkish and it mostly remains the same as the written language. I love the Istanbul Turkish the most but it's kinda exhausting to pronounce especially if you don't feel like talking at the moment 😂

Im a turk in london, my old neighbours were Bulgarian turks. I noticed alot of similarities in the cypriot and Bulgarian dialects of turkish in the sense that alot of tonal indicators are used in place of conjugations, and as far as balkan accents go

Istanbul Turkish is accepted as standard Turkish but in different regions of Turkey, different versions of Turkish are spoken. I’m from southern Mediterranean region and Cypriot Turkish is 99% same with our Turkish unlike the one spoken in Black Sea region for example.

My parrents are from midvestturkey/Afyon/Emirdag, so I talk turkish like them. My turkish are more similar to the cypriot. Not all of it, though. But a lot of the words is. And I know, that my turkish is yørük turkish. Also I was in the turkish cyprus for some years ago. Listening to there dialekt, sounded like old Istanbul dialekt from the 1920 or so…
