It’s insightful to the centrist-liberal white ppl who were otherwise complacent or blissfully ignorant. Sam Jay is brilliant at what she does because she’s able to bring along people in the majority in a way that does not feel immediately threatening to them. She obviously knows racist old people vote a lot and are at the vanguard of trying to stop social progress. But she gets her audience to empathize with her and who she represents via her sympathizing with what we now see as patently absurd. It’s Jedi-level social influence via absurdist comedy. Probably a consequence of learning to navigate a city like Dorchester/ Boston as young black gay masculine-of-center woman in the 90s
