In a recent episode of the Launch Sequence Podcast, I spoke with @MrTybio and @free-dissociation about server meshing, the major backend component meant to drive Star Citizen. Tybio made a strong proclamation that this could be the major culmination that the community has been waiting for.

What is static about it? Server meshing vs static server meshing is what difference
@hoshipresence

@@WhyGodby im not a software engineer, but from some research i found this excerpt, “With Static Server Meshing, everything is fixed in advance, including the number of server nodes per shard and which game server is responsible for simulating what locations.” The difference being with dynamic server meshing the server assigns resources based on where they are needed rather than it being fixed.

Static meshing has a predetermined server count. Dynamic means the system can turn on additional servers to meet current loads and back off once the demand has passed.

@@WhyGodbySo basically... Static - everything is online and transfering data, basically software and hardware just signaling each other how things are going. Dynamic - Hardware/software should be able to go offline or focus on other things but be able to help out if something is being done to the extreme (spawning tons of idrises on one planet....)

But they’re not actually testing transfers between servers, right? Just the ability of the replication layer to work with 2 separate servers. An important step, to be sure.

Tybio is great in his explanations. Been following some of his video's about it few weeks ago. Thanks for reminding me about him. I subbed now for this reason. Gonna check out Kevin Riggle to!!

I'm on PTU Pyro right now with the replication layer working and it's smooth as butter and incredibly impressive. Canhardlywait.

Demonstrated and Delivered are very different, especially for CIG… Still let’s all stay optimistic for 2024, it’s make or break on those promised deliverables.

I'm not the most up to date. I saw Salty Mike say recently that the most recent replication layer test was bad and CIG has been quiet since which is a bad sign. So are things better now?

First static server meshing evocati test is TODAY, check saltemikes stream vod for today, at the end he talked about it (since evo stuff is public now) also just cause 1 test wasnt working properly doesnt have to mean things are getting worse

I'll believe it when it is delivered. They're already backtracking on their Q1/Q2 dates.

Well the fact that the original concept was that they hoped to have 40-50 players per server shows how far they've come.

@@rooster1012 Their original concept was to have servers that couldn't handle a single crewed idris (27 crew) fighting another crewed idris? I have to call BS on that.
