I'm still working through a lot of pain, so I apologize for the little mishaps and mistaken titles! I was able to sit and edit through the last two episodes we had pre-recorded before my surgery, though. I'll be excited to watch some more TNG when Paula is back, and I'm more healed up to sit and react!! Thanks y'all for all of the support, always ✨️🖤

Kat, I don't want to tell you what to do... BUT: Don't worry and get well soon! 😉 I think I speak for a lot of people here when I say: We appreciate you and we want you to take the time you need to get better. So we'll manage to wait for a bit if that means you Gals come back *and* are well rested.❤

The Riker/Worf conversation happens about 18 minutes into the episode right before Troi and Worf go into the nacelle and the hallucination starts so that part was real.

Personally, I LOVED the awkward Riker/Worf conversation in 10 Forward. It was so funny seeing the "big, strong, Klingon warrior Worf: Son of Mohg" getting all nervous! Just like IRL guy friends having the uncomfortable, "Dude. I am 'interested' in your sister/ ex-girlfriend/ whoever! Is that cool with you?" (at least, if you are a "decent" friend, you have that conversation.) WOMEN. The ONE thing that can reduce grown, confident men into nervous, teenage boys. lol

I like and appreciate Star Trek's purpose of social commentary; I have no problem with this kind of episode. It's what makes Star Trek, for me, the Greatest of the SciFi entertainments. But I would have like it better if this were two separate episodes: one an exploration of suicidal issues in society and another a who-done-it where Worf & Troi get together (even if it's just a dream).
@weray7605
@weray7605 Жыл бұрын
I love Start Trek for the social commentary. The best scene in the show is when Data (Ah, how we all love Data for this kind of reason!) so innocently is asking LaForge about suicide and he gives the audience such a great moment of advice -- as though it's not Data talking to Geordi but rather Star Trek talking directly to those audience members watching from a place of unbearable pain and depression: Data says, 'Yeah, I almost committed suicide myself but here's how I dealt with those, er, 'feelings.' Man I love this show. (even for the poorer episodes)
@patsk8872
@patsk8872 Жыл бұрын
That was probably the intent, but it came off more like a "me too" type of comment where someone who doesn't really understand something / hasn't truly experienced something traumatic, was trying to act like they did. Since Data does not experience emotions it seems much more like the latter.
@sharkdentures3247
@sharkdentures3247 Жыл бұрын
I agree. I think that is the main reason why most people who love Trek, love it so much! Especially today. Because, unlike modern entertainment, it doesn't "preach" AT the audience. Nor tell them "THIS is the correct answer & THAT is the wrong answer". It merely presents the topic, shows both sides (or both "solutions" to the issue) or whatever, has the show pick one, while letting the audience decide for themselves IF that was the "right" answer or not. I miss that. And if there IS no right/wrong answer, just a "subject matter"? It is done with a level of subtlety! (instead of "beating us over the head" with it)

DS9 and Voyager both had awesome episodes dealing with suicide. My experience with suicides is odd... when I was 14 I decided to take my life. Decided to have 1 fun day at the local fair, alone, then go home to a decided end. But fatefully my childhood crush bumped into me. Hadn't seen her in years because she moved away. But there she was, and she decided to spend the day with me. Had the best day riding rides. And she gave me her phone number. We're still close friends after 35 years. I wish that were the only story I have though. Two childhood friends took their lives in early 20s... 1 for a lost love. The other lost a battle with drugs and deliberately took their own life. Then depression and pills ended my uncle. And then my dad. Suicide destroys a lifetime of memories. You can't think of them without remembering how they left this place. My only goal now is to be there for everyone. Answer every call. Love unconditionally with tons of empathy. You never know whose hand you are holding in their darkest day.
@TheAtkey
@TheAtkey Жыл бұрын
I never atttempted but I was at a point in my life where I didn't care if I lived or died and had thoughts of ending it. I've also delt with two suicidal parents in the past two years. We are all happy to still be here. I would really like sometime in the future to see you two react to season 3 of Star Trek Picard, in many ways it's Next Generation season 8 or the movie we never got.

I don't know whether anyone of you two has ever watched House M.D. There is a great episode where one of the team does not show up in the morning and they find him dead, because of suicide. House and his team then try their best to find out what caused this. It is the only episode of the show where House fails to find the answer to a problem. Because sometimes there is no answer, and that is the hardest thing for the people who stay behind. The episode ends with a title card, urging anyone to ever have these thoughts to seek help. One of the strongest educational pieces of Television I ever watched.

Oof. This *is* the correct ep. Thought it was a repost of Masks an' that Kat was still out. Cool to get to see the warp nacelles from the inside for once. (This is actually in the tech manual.) Number of sets they build, thus the portions of the ship we ever get to see, is of course limited by production budgets overall.

Masking. Tell me about it! I've spent practically my whole life doing that as an Aspie and being a sole carer, especially in the latter years of that duty of care, I felt as if I were in my own 'confession dial'. I was rescued by my cousin who travelled across the country to sit around a table with social.

Okay, this has a point, so just follow along with me a bit. When Rod Serling couldn't get "The Twilight Zone" revived, he just made a ripoff, called "Night Gallery". "Night Gallery" had a spinoff called "The Sixth Sense". The hero in that, Michael Rhodes, was basically Doctor Strange with a boring name, and boring clothes. Anyway, long way of getting to, this episode of TNG feels like a "Sixth Sense" episode. I wonder if the writers were fans.

It's always an outside force. Usually it's a mental illness, most often depression, as it was when my brother and my stepmother did it. Sometimes, as with Robin Williams facing terminal dementia, it's a choice for euthanasia. The actor who played Lt. Pierce is best known for his roles in The Shawshank Redemption and Aliens. I hope you'll watch the original and TNG movies!!! And don't forget Star Trek: Picard.

This episode brings up the issue of the Troi/Worf relationship. Not a bad idea at all, the actors have chemistry and it worked well in Parallels. But it was too late in the game to introduce it, the time to do it was a season earlier, so there's no breathing room to take the romance anywhere. In the end it feals like it was only done because they ran out of ideas before they reached the end of the series.
@patsk8872
@patsk8872 Жыл бұрын
Or, they pull these last season romances because they won't have to deal with the consequences for long. I don't want to spoil anything but let's just say this is far from the only instance.

When I was 18 I stood there. at the rail road tracks at the local station, waiting for the fast train that would run through it. Some jehovas witnesses entangled me into a conversation. At that time I didnt know that they knew what I was wanting to do. Another time I wanted to end it to escape the violent and abusive girlfriend. But I was spottet near the tracks and the trains lowered their speed.
