I think what Yoda was saying wasn't that either the dark side or the light side is more powerful, just that the dark side is easier, the quicker path. It seduces you with the violent power you can wield with it, since most people are quick to tap into their anger, their attachments and the fear of losing them. The light side path is more difficult, because you need to be calm, selfless, and patient.

The Taun Tauns were made using live-sized puppets for closeups and Stop-Motion for the Running Scenes. Stop-Motion was also used for the ATATs. That wasn’t Wedge who got shot down but another Pilot named Zev, who found Han and Luke earlier. Wedge is also in this battle, his glider used the harpoon to bring down one of the walkers. He survived to fight another day. And in case you didn’t recognize him, Julian Glover played Veers, the Imperial General who led the ground assault. In one of the books, there's a scene during A New Hope where Obi Wan quietly talks to R2-D2, and says something along the lines of "It's good to see you old friend". He wouldn't want Luke to know that R2-D2 knew his father because then he'd start asking R2 for more info on Anakin, which Obi Wan didn't want.

Though this is a repeat viewing, I appreciate that you're the only reactor to see what Lando was really about in this film. It's why I always felt such great sympathy towards him. I feel like someone has probably told you by now, but just in case: the actor who plays Wedge in live action is Ewan McGregor’s (prequel Obi-Wan’s) uncle. Pretty cool tbh. Also, as much as I love Anakin vs Obi-Wan, I think Luke vs Vader on Bespin is tied with it as the most cinematic lightsaber duel. Anakin vs Obi-wan is bigger and more epic, but this fight is more atmospheric and tense.

Here’s one to cook your noodle. Han says they never asked him any questions when he was tortured, so why did Vader torture Han? For fun? No. Vader knew that Luke’s connection to Han and Leia would be so strong that when they were in danger it would reach out in the Force and have Luke come save them. How does he know this? The same thing happened to him when his mother was tortured by sand people. He used his own tragic experience to trick his son.

I was a little kid when I saw Empire Strikes Back in the theaters in 1980. The sold out jam packed movie theater crowd gasped when Vader told Luke he was his father. Someone yelled out "bullshit". The cliffhanger (what's going to happen to Han Solo) and the "twist" left a bitter taste in a lot of people's mouths. That twist was heavily debated among my childhood friends on whether or not it was true. And the thing is we had to wait 3 years to have it confirmed since Return of the Jedi came out in 1983. When you're in elementary school, 3 years is an eternity. But anyway, here's 3 minute clip from an interview from 2015 when The Force Awakens was premiering of Mark Hamill talking about keeping "the secret" twist I know you'll enjoy. kzbin.info/www/bejne/oaOrqIiBpZV2jac

I saw an article once that pointed out the implications of the argument in the hallway at the beginning between Han and Leia. None of those extras in the scene are paying the least bit of attention to a couple of their leaders snapping at each other. One even just walks between them carrying something and Han leans out of their way without acknowledging any one was even there. The Rebel Alliance, as a whole, see them argue with each other so much that it's not even interesting to watch anymore. It's so commonplace it could be part of the tour.

So my dad officially sat me down and let me watch his original VHS copies of A New Hope, and then Empire Strikes Back. I absolutely lost my mind at Vader's reveal to Luke. My dad then told me to go to bed but I was crying/begging him to tell me if there was one more movie?? My dad caved in and let me watch Return of the Jedi. People mock the sequels for not having a plan and the prequels for having bad writing, but even the original trilogy has that baked into its DNA. The best movie in the franchise literally had Leia make out with her brother (and peck him on the lips again later), then ROTJ decided to have part of her know that she was his sister the whole time. There’s no seemless explanation for this, but we accept it because it’s part of the Star Wars journey! I apply the same logic to all of Star Wars, it’s a ton o’ fun (that being said, it’s also great when we get something truly special like Andor).
@jadewinter1509 Жыл бұрын
Not sure if you caught this, Yoda saying Luke's father "always looked to the future, never his mind on where he was" is foreshadowing Anakin's visions of his mother and Padme.. secondly, he tests Luke to see into the future where he sees what's basically his family suffering, and Luke leaves to intervene just like Anakin did and Yoda replies "told you I did, reckless is he. Now, matters are worse." Yoda tried to teach Anakin to "let go of everything you fear to lose." And it's what led him to his fate. Powerful storytelling.
@jadewinter1509 Жыл бұрын
Also R2 doesn't stay with the ship because the last time a Skywalker left him at the ship, Anakin never came back. He tries stopping Luke a few times in cloud city from confronting Vader. Love these deep connections that can be made.

I disagree with not fearing to lose loved ones unlike Yoda. In fact it is Luke’s attachments which enable him to persevere and to redeem his father Anakin. I believe that the answer should be to have attachments and learn how to focus your feelings so that they don’t lead to the dark side.

I will say it took a bit of time for empire to rise to my favorite movie of the saga. After all of the years of watching it, I have no doubt it is one of the best films of all time. The story, the music, the set design, the drama, the tension, the special effects, is at an absolute peak in this cinematic masterpiece. The lightsaber fight with Luke and Vader had the most depth and structure out of all the duels in the saga. I love how Luke chose death over joining his father while still trying to process the shocking truth revealed to him. This movie captures how courage can rise up when it seems all hope is lost....even on Hoth, the empire had the rebel leadership in their grasp and allowed them to slip away. And I can't say it enough, this score was John Williams best...from the cloud city theme, Yoda's theme, to the imperial march, to the astroid field, it was his best work ever IMO. Andor is the only thing that had come close to replicating the visual aesthetic of this movie...I can't wait for you to start it.

He's 90 Years old now and it has been rumored that he will retire from Film Scoring next year, but he's got one more Score up his sleeve: The upcoming Indiana Jones 5, which might become his Grand Finale, 65 Years after he started writing for movies.

Love watching the journey of you becoming a real SW fan! A few things: 1. I the Tauntauns were puppets when seen up close, and perhaps animatronic. In distance shots, it's stop motion. 2. Yoda isn't acting how he does when he first meets Luke because he's gone crazy. He's trolling Luke, provoking him to show his true character. When Luke does, losing his temper, Yoda reveals himself. It is one of my favorite things in all of Star Wars, watching Yoda troll Luke like he's just some strange little goofy creature. 3. I saw RotJ in theaters as a 6 year old. I was too young to see ESB or ANH in theaters (watched them on video), but people were absolutely losing their minds when the Vader reveal happened. As it was, people were shocked in Return of the Jedi when Yoda confirms he was telling the truth. All of us in the early 80s were walking around in a stooper, dazed by the monumental mind f*#k of Vader being Luke's dad. Empire Strikes back is my favorite of all the films. I think Yoda training Luke is the best. We see for the first time the wisdom of this Jedi Grand Master and we see Luke developing as a Rebel fighter and a Jedi. Are you going to react to Andor? It's top notch, in my opinion. Different than all other Star Wars content, but really so great. I hope you do.

In regards to Yoda talking about the dark side not being stronger, he meant both light and dark are equal when the force is in balance. If theres unbalance it appears one side is stronger but not so, one side has weakened. Recall the Mortis Arc with the Father, Son and Daughter. When the Daughter died the father said the balance was lost, the dark side has grown to strong now. Light and dark keep each other in check. So one only appears stronger when the balance is lost.

In 1980, the novel of EsB was released before the movie -like SW had too. I was daft enough to read the novel, but I was in 5th Grade, just 11 years old. I'd seen the original in cinema in 1977, of course I'd see the new second film,...but, I read the novel, first. Now, I recall that I didn't have the imagination to visualize much of what I read. Photos were kept under wraps for a lot of EsB like Yoda, and the AT-At's until the films release. I couldn't picture in my mind either of the Jedi Master except as a small man, and the Imperial Walkers as a sort of tank. The battle between Luke and Vader, I thought of like a factory setting -which isn't that off. The revelation of family, I don't recall really understanding that. Went to the cinema, with a few friends -Wow!!!!!!!! Way better than my mind, could visualize. And, with music, and Luke and Vader framed on the gantry -What does that mean???? I was in the SW Fan Club, and got the newsletter, and gifts. I read the Marvel SW comics all the way through until 1985 -had to get to the Comic shop in a certain week to get the new issue. I've done some of these film & animated-tv marathons too, in different combinations. I have never read a novel of an upcoming movie, again -unless it's already published like Tolkien's work, Dune, 1984, all quiet on the western front, Handmaid's tale, where I read years ago, and hope the film/tv adapt isn't a screw-up.

I read somewhere that admiral ozzel was a spy for the rebels, it makes sense as he tries to dissuade Vader from going to Hoth and again comes out of light speed too fast to give the rebels time to escape.

These never get old. Dude I love Star Wars so much... I saw it in theaters as a kid.. and in my car I've got a stuffed Chewbacca on the dash, and Star Wars sun visors. Heh heh ☺

I think watching "The Chosen One" by Heroes Fan Productions would make for an awesome reaction video after you are done with rewatching these. I know you dont do fan made stuff, but this is such an iconic video at this point, and it summarizes Anakin's life in a way where you can really appreciate and realize the story George Lucas wanted to tell. It does not have any spoilers past rebels, as it was made 5 years ago :) I would be super excited for it!

You’ve seen peak Jedi vs peak Sith before. Obi-Wan vs Maul (literally most of their fights through the whole franchise). Kenobi was always the perfect master of his feelings and thoughts (with a few slip-ups), while Maul was always consumed by hatred and anger. And as Phantom Menace, Clone Wars, and Rebels showed, Obi-Wan’s patience and determination won out against Maul’s fury and vengefulness almost every time. So Yoda is right, and the Light is stronger than the Dark. The difficulty is that it’s a lot easier to embrace and eventually master the darkness when compared to the light.

Also as for “Who’s gonna tell Vader no?” Boba. Boba will happily tell Vader no. Lmfao.

On seeing this again after all these years a thought occurs: why didn't Han manage to pay off Jabba? Do wire transfers not exist in this universe? With all the technology they have in the Star Wars saga couldn't he just Cash App Jabba what he owes? 😬
@more-reasons6655 Жыл бұрын
They are rebels out side of the galactic government, which bank are they using? United bank of rebels? The Royal Bank of Jabba The good guys dont have any infrastructure during the original trilogy, they are resistance fighters that are outside of the law

I love this movie. Everything is so great. Luke and Vader's fight is awesome. Yoda is awesome. I love Han. I do agree about Lando they all give him a hard time but he really didn't have a choice. Who's going to tell him no? I love Han and Leia. Han and Luke. Han really does care about Luke his expression when he learns Vader's after Luke. I really love all these characters.

This shot of Luke lying in the snow, peering his head over the landscape towards a vision at 7:09 is almost perfectly paralleled by his death scene in The Last Jedi, in terms of thematic weight and shot composition. In both, he’s seeing something that isn’t tangibly there (here, Ben’s spirit imploring him to continue his journey. In TLJ, he’s seeing a vision of the Binary Sunsets of Tatooine which weren’t actually visible from his Island on Ach-To; this one is meant to symbolize that his part in the journey has come to an end by paralleling where he began.)

Primate, have you seen the cinematic for Star Wars the old republic? If not, you most definitely need to do a react episode to all the cinematics.

All these years, all the times I've watched this movie and the series.. and I've never caught that. Amazing stuff that Filoni and crew do with the new series, fleshing out the galaxy.
@procyon6370 Жыл бұрын
Well, it wasn't just Dave Filoni and the guys: Ord Mantell was first depicted in 1996's Shadows of the Empire multimedia project, not in the Bad Batch series. Smuggler Dash Rendar clashed with IG-88D clashed on the surface for information on Boba Fett's whereabouts. Ord Mantell was intended to appear in the Son of Dathomir arc of Clone Wars, but that was cancelled and the artwork was recycled for the Bad Batch series. That arc was co-written by Matt Michnovetz and Aïda Mashaka Croal, and the story was conceived of in a story conference with George Lucas.

@@procyon6370 "Ord Mantell was first depicted in 1996" You mean it was 'next depicted' after being firstly depicted in ESB.
@procyon6370 Жыл бұрын
But it wasn't depicted in The Empire Strikes Back, it was just mentioned. The only planets that appear in Episode V are Hoth, Dagobah, and Bespin.

When he mentioned that Vader knows who she is he's talking about her importance to the rebellion and not that Vader knows she's his daughter. Vader would never have allowed one of the leaders of the rebellion to be left at cloud city.

I’ve noticed in these Empire strikes back reaction videos that no one ever notices the scene where a star destroy bridge gets obliterated by an asteroid and one of the admirals disappears from the hologram in front of vader and he has zero reaction to it😂

17:59 the Dark Side is weaker than the Light, it just seems that the Dark is stronger because it's the easier, more natural path. So in a way they're even which is the intention of the Force, with the Dark being the quick access to power whereas the Light is the hard-earned, sacrificial greater power. At least this is my interpretation of Star Wars lore.
@tud21 Жыл бұрын
True but I’d say both are equally as strong. There needs to be a balance
