I think that it's important to remember that the Gree Sail used by Dooku's ship was not a passive propulsion system. It worked very similarly to the concept of the Etheric Rudder that was introduced in the thrawn trilogy. Instead of acting as a control surface, the Gree figured out how to push off of this etheric mass to create thrust. This process, and thus, the sail consumed energy to produce this thrust, but in an extremely efficient way.

Ships in Star Wars are built to last hundreds and hundreds of years. The Falcon is nearly 100 years old by the time of the New Series. There's no reason for prices to mean much when all ships are built to last.

Pretty sure there would be. After Endor the value of the Imperial credit would have likely dropped like a rock due to panic over destabilization of a massive government. During the time between the fall of the Empire and the establishment of the New Republic (be it either Legends or Disney Canon) there'd be chaos and once the New Republic did get established, there's probably a lot of respect for them to earn, old and new wounds to heal, grumpy people that benefited from the Empire who no longer do, bored veterans (on both sides), and lots of displaced people. Add to that the upset economy and galaxy is a bit of a mess. The Empire may have been evil and authoritarian but as they said in Italy after Mussolini, "at least the trains ran on time."
@zakiducky5 жыл бұрын
I could speculate on it using dark matter or energy to move, or even the expanding fabric of space. But I'd prefer to think it somehow actually taps into the Force to move about with that sail. _The_ Force being the, erm, 'force' that moves it fits with the lore about an undetectable super-light force better than dark matter/ energy or space-time, and is more 'future science-proof.' Since we still don't really know what dark matter and energy are, we might one day find out, and that would be incongruous with how Dooku's ship uses its sail.

I wonder if its possible that the thing the sail uses to propel itself is the force? I mean the living force is supposedly everywhere & all around us, constantly in motion. I wonder if the gree sail somehow manages to "catch" the force, like a regular sail would catch the air, using it as momentum to travel through space. Would be interesting

Was the backstory created before the sails were proposed for the special effects or after. Note that scents have a significant latency before before detection and more so to dissipation. Any species that uses scent for information input would structure their inputs to not be particularly time sensitive.
@matthiuskoenig3378 Жыл бұрын
That's not nessiary true for aliens. The speed of smell is based on 2 factors, the speed of the smelt molecules (which can be artificially increased beyond simple diffusion rates) and the detection and processing speed of the organism in question. Humans take 110 to 500 ms to detect, process and react to smell once it hits the nose (depending on the type of smell) Incontrast Bees who communicate through smell can process and react to any smell in 6ms (for reference humans take 13ms to detect and process visual stimuli and 150-170ms to react to it, yes humans can react to smell faster than other stimuli, specifically of the smell is associated with danger, although it can also be slower). It is entirely possible for an alien species to be able to use scent for complex and timescensative feedback.
@johnwang9914 Жыл бұрын
@@matthiuskoenig3378 What about diffusion of the molecules through the environment to where it enters the sensory organ and can be sensed and how consistent is that rate of diffusion. Scent is still slow regardless of how quickly you could react to it once it hits your nose and evolution would assume that there is a great deal of variable latency involved.

The Sail is used as a "Coast" method. Wind does not push against the ⛵, Solar does not push against the ⛵, its main purpose is to collect energy in stealth. If you want to be unnoticed while Exit or Enter is on your flight plan you need to shut down all systems, everything, even life support systems. Shutting down life support would be extremely hazardus to its crew, but not for a Jedi, who can lower their ❤ rate and breathing down to almost a complete stop. Now combine this to a ⛵ that collects energy from the smallest of particles will give you a invisible blimp on any Radar and when seen looks nothing more then a floating rock with Stars in the background reflecting of the ⛵ .

84 tractor beam projectors? If you had a crew to operate all those, you could tear pretty much any ship into tiny pieces, and they couldn't do a damn thing because tractor beams cause weapons to misfire in Star Wars. Also, I feel like the Geonosians working on this ship probably broke down into tears at the sail's beauty on a daily basis.

"undetectable by all other technology" … For there to be a force to propel the craft in any direction, there must be a pressure differential. Cut up the sail, put little squares of it on wires and balance on the head of a needle. envelop in glass, vacuum out the atmosphere from the bulb. Carry this with you and observe how the device spins faster or slower in different locations and conditions.
@oplik05 жыл бұрын
You missed the "other" part. It's obvious that it's detectable by this sail - but apparently no one has any idea how exactly this sail can do that. If I had to guess, it's just that like some real particles whatever is driving the sail doesn't interact with almost anything, but Gree found some weird interaction that could be used to reflect most of these particles "shining" at the sail. On the other hand writers probably didn't really think hard about physics and it could just as well be called a Force sail :)

Solar sails work off of violet light, the light pushes these special sales like wind pushes sails on boats in the ocean
@DanielLCarrier4 жыл бұрын
Tachyons would actually be pretty interesting for pushing a sail. Tachyons moving at infinite speed would have no energy, but would still carry momentum. As such, they can be thought of as being similar to light-sails designed for lasers, but much more efficient. That said, I think what Star Wars was going for is that them being faster than light would push the object faster than light, which doesn't make any sense if you understand the underlying physics.

Like it might be fun if there was a sect that hid themselves away after Dooku's death and are guided by his force ghost or some such. It might make an interesting story line in a new anime series or even a movie. I do not want Darth Mouse to get the idea that the sail thing is so attractive to fans that a fleet of Interdictors come sailing out of the Unknown regions on planet sized sails.
