Michael made a great point. We don’t know what Osha’s “want” is. In a broad show like this you need characters to have clear and defined wants for their life. I didn’t get the impression being a Meknik was Osha’s ultimate goal in life. I actually felt Mae’s want is clear… she wanted revenge on the Jedi for the death of her family. But that goal changed when she found out Osha survived.

One of the examples of the frustrating writing in this series was Osha having to explain to Yord again that the umbramoths (rolly pollies) are attracted to light because he can't remember from earlier that day. Yord taking the L later after that kind of dunderheaded stupidity felt justified (in addition to being shocking).

@@hoos3014 That's kind of the point. They're basically saying the audience is either too dumb to remember that from the previous episode, or they're expecting some people to start watching with this episode, which would already be confusing for them with everything else going on. It's unnecessary and makes the character look incompetent.

@@hoos3014 /Sigh I will admit, they went bonkers that Ki-Adi-Mundi /knew/ the Sith were around after watching a video of a rogue Force user with no association or indication that she's a Sith. Not only that, not a single person speculated that it was a Sith; Vernestra is even convinced that she was trained by a Jedi. So, nothing conclusive here, but the fans went bonkers anyway.

In terms of Mae flip-flopping, I think there’s a good explanation that makes her behavior consistent, but the show has not done a good job of laying it out. My sense, going back to last week when she bailed on the mission and decided to flip on her master, was that she was terrified. Kill a Wookiee Jedi? Without a weapon? That’s a suicide mission for her. She was scared and lacked conviction and wanted out. This week, she realizes her flip didn’t go well and the master is here, and she’s scared and looking for a way out. You can kind of see it on her face early on when she finds Kelnakka’s saber. And Qimir calls her out on it at least twice… being scared, emotional, lacking loyalty, etc. Which also seems like a behavior consistent with her as a child. She gets scared of losing her sister and lashes out in random ways that aren’t based in reason - like starting a fire that will kill the person she’s scared of losing. I think once you understand her motivation as rooted in fear, her actions make more sense. Idk about the whole parent trap scheme though.
@edo4896
@edo4896 7 күн бұрын
I thought this as well, but it wasn't illustrated the best in episode since she had just made what appeared to be an out of the blue decision to turn on her master n the 1st place. It can then just come across as sloppy writing , changing the characters direction so it's a convenience for the plot.

@@brandonmiracle9810that works. I never saw it as out of the blue because it made sense to me that if she had doubts since seeing her sister, she'd still need Qimir's help locating Kelnacca's hut. Why would she let on about her doubts and plan to the scary master's other pawn until she felt she was in the clear? All the talk about being tired was to stall, get him to leave and set up her trap. Flipping back isn't too deep either. It was all good as a plan when she thought *"Master is planets away and then I'll be hidden. I'm freeEEEEE! Oh... shoot... the Wookie is already bleeding his own blood and still smoking from a saber slash. The Master is here!"* That's where you're spot on about her fear. Now she's face to face with the fact her Master is ahead of her, easily dispatched a Wookie Jedi already, and is about to lay waste to the folk she naively thought could protect her. Her aim was now to get away from everyone. Then when face to face with her Master, pleading for her life and pretending like she was sorry and wants back in was her only resort. It feels almost like people latched onto the out-of-the-blue part more than they would have if they hadn't heard someone else say it first, and that first person would have needed it spelled out more than the average Joe because they didn't imagine she was already wanting out WHILE talking to Qimir about how she could possibly win against a Wookie Jedi without a weapon.

I do think Osha telling Sol to stop is a call back to the 2nd episode i believe when Sol tells Osha he never taught her how to grieve and all shes thinking is getting revenge. And in that moment, Sol is consumed with anger and revenge for what Qimir has done and she pulls him back out. But i do agree that in the moment it feels weird that she did it.

The problem is grown adults that grew up with 70's and 80's STAR WARS as KiDZ, want that same feeling they got as a kid watching those movies, but their movie taste has matured into Darker, Sexier, even more intellectual places and Disney is trying to appeal to those KiDZ that most people use to be. THiS is their 70's and 80's period, most just need to sit back and enjoy the ride like our parents when The took us to see the original SW, but they can't, they're like the spoiled brat asking are we there yet.🤣

I don't think Sol is going to make it all the way back to Coruscant. I don't think it's going to come as a great surprise to him that he has Mae with him vs. Osha, and I don't think it'll matter much in the end. He'll plead his case to Mae, fail to convince her, and go the way of Torbin. Of course, at this point, things ought to get very f'ing awkward back at the temple. Vernestra Rho and Ki-Adi Mundi are going to be scrambling to avoid the shitstorm coming down from the Council. A bunch of knights and Padawans were dispatched to Forest World to go get Kalnacka and NOBODY came back AND the twin girls are missing. Oohhh boy, this is big investigation time. This is "inquiry" time. Ho-Lee shit, the power that is going to be brought to bear on this situation is going to be impressive, or should be, if the story is in any way believable. Of course Qimir will be long gone at that point and as far/deep back underground as he can possibly get.....which is probably pretty deep. I hope "Basil the Nose" doesn't die.

I wonder if the reason for the shorter runtimes/fewer episodes on this and most other Disney+ shows is that Disney probably thinks that families are watching them together, so they don't want to keep kids on too long and make them tired (which would be dumb on Disney's part). People bring up Andor as the exception, but that series was specifically for older audiences, so they could get away with it.

One way to figure out if the short run time is a good idea is to look at this shows number compared to Andor. Despite being the best SW has to offer in recent years, was it making the viewership numbers like the other shows?

"I don't make the rules, the Jedi do." This is about the Overton Window and related hegemonic control of baseline assumptions of true, good, and beautiful. Smile-oh has to kill to keep himself safe; if he doesn't, the State and sheeple will come after him in vastly overwhelming numbers, numbers, money, and guns, that are 1000% impossible to combat. His only option, at the point of this episode, is to kill everyone, to cut, and run, run far and fast; then go low and hide. I'm actually kinda impressed that Ms. Headland went as far as she has with Qimir's lines. Now, we have, potentially, most of the back half of this story where Osha is theoretically being "groomed" or "seduced" by Qimir and we'll see (maybe) all manner of really interesting things as he tries. I use the words "groom" and "seduce" because those are exactly the sorts of words the Jedi would use (Mae uses "brainwash" which is basically the same word as "gaslight") because the Jedi themselves are tools of socio-cultural hegemony. I honestly didn't think that Lucasfilm would do this stuff. It's too bold. It's too far and away from what Old Man Lucas would have ever considered. It's not, in any way, "for the kids," as far as normie culture would have it. Subsequent story creators could just sorta ignore whatever happens now from Eps 6-8, but it's gonna cause drama because they won't want to. Good and talented storytellers who want to tell adult SW stories are going to want to do all sorts of stuff within newly defined boundaries, and Lucasfilm is going to have to make a decision about what they wanna do to maintain some sort of franchise specific "overton window."

Conceptually I like this type of stuff alot but Jedi v Sith isn't the way to do it. At least not this way (supposedly if this is what they're doing). As an outsider to the series and not a character within, we can tell when the writers do some bullshit cherry picking to prove a point/concept or teach a lesson. Fundamentaly Jedi are better than Sith. Its not some state vs the people thing, or free will thing. Qimir/Sith aren't killing to not be caught and suppressed. They are being suppressed because they kill. They are being suppressed because they do things at directly effect the world around them. As an outsider we know the darkside is corruption, literally, it changes your body and to force users on the other side "dark side" energy doesn't feel natural. The Jedi have their rules because 99% of Dark siders live primarily off selfish perverse desires. The only reason we can even entertain the idea of the Jedi doing something bad to the witches in this show is cause we are literally still in the dark on the story (not to say that I am of the camp that the Jedi are completely good here). An example of the writers making the Jedi seem purposely flawed and them (writers) humoring Qimir is his fight with Sol. Sol knew Qimir was behind the 3 masters death and his team plus padawan's death, and instead of apprehension he drops his saber because its not the jedi way??? He can't fight or even apprehend Qimir anymore because he dropped his saber after killing everyone??? So now we have the writers trying to force highlight a moment where Qimir is in the right and Sol (Jedi) are wrong. Which is then proved that this is what they are forcing since Sol complies with the plot. These concepts can be good, just not in this specific context of how Star Wars works.
@Playhouse76
@Playhouse76 7 күн бұрын
Osha stopping Sol felt very much like the Anakin vs Dooku moment in Revenge of the Sith. You can see on Sol's face that it's not just taking down an opponent. You can see the anger and hatred that he wants to murder Qimir with. That's why Osha stops him. I agree that the relationship between Osha and Sol needed to be deepened further for that to read with the full impact it was supposed to.

I think Osha stops Sol b/c she knows the implications of a Jedi lashing out in anger to kill a 'defenseless' enemy leads to the Dark Side? How would we feel if a LEO had a mvrderer at gunpoint and executed them on the spot? We may feel it the guy deserved it, but... it would cause some massive issues in our world and these are supposed to be Jedi whose moral/ethical certitude is even beyond everyday cops (and let's face it, we've got some problems with cops already).

Then after she runs into Ohsa, I think when Ohsa refuses her, Mae decides to sever all the links that Ohsa has to the Jedi, and make it so that the only person that Ohsa has is Mae. My left field prediction? Laura Kelly's going to hate this one... Like Michael says, Basil quickly blows the whistle on the rouse and Sol insists on having to go back to Khofar to rescue Osha. In the meantime, Qimir unlocks Osha's memory (or simply explains what happened at the coven) and Osha feels the betrayal and turns. In the meantime, Vernestra arrives on Khofar b/c she hasn't heard from the Jedi team in a while and kills Qimir and Sol, revealing herself to be Qimir's master and has Osha kill Mae to prove herself a worthy apprentice and no one back at the Jedi Order is the wiser as these two continue as master and apprentice.

So i thought i understood maes reasoning for flip flopping; So initially her motivations for revenge were gone because osha was alive. She goes to turn her self in. Sees kalnaccas body. Thats when things shift. Theres a big difference between tur ing yourself in, which usually grants some benefit of the doubt. And being taken in at the scene of a murder. Also she knows her master is there, she knows he will kill her for betraying him. So her options at that point were be captured by the jedi and be killed by her master or attempt to flee. She joins sol after her master is taken out of the situation and osha rejected her again. Its the fastest safest way to get away from where her master is. At this point its about survival at least thats what it seems to me.

I have to imagine that a lot of the awkwardness in the dialogue (especially between the twins) is meant to be flexible for whatever the episode 7 reveal will be. As for Osha stopping Sol from killing Qimir...it's hard to justify it on-screen but the best approach they've come up with so far was Maul's rampage after Obi Wan, "killed," him. Luke defeating hatred with compassion in RotJ I guess too. I still think there's brainwashing. Sol seems really mind-oriented and likely gave Osha that episode 3 memory.

Agree fundamentally the main problem is the twins lack of clear motivation. My best guess is this all ends with Osha learning the truth and turning dark, followed by getting back into the order so she can infiltrate it and take it down from the inside.

I've NEVER heard of this metal (I also have never read EU) and it was so well done (IMO) that I didn't need an explanation. It was clear what was going on. Not sure why Shannon needed some character to explain the how and why. I just need to see the effect and (because I don't need my hand held) it was VERY FUCKING EASY to assume the cause.

+ writers know that these days for those who care to find out they will all turn to U📺 & quickly find the answer. There could also be a short exposition scene later in the series ( we know Vern breaks out the lightwhip) warning about Qimir’s defences which would be more organic to the story then pausing in this ep for a lesson on Cortosis. It exists in canon but I don’t know if it’s been established that the avg JEDI know anything about it (in canon).

I don't necessarily agree with the "They're dragging the Jedi through the mud" angle, we get plenty of cool Jedi but this isn't a story about those Jedi as evidenced by their deaths this episode. Manny Jacinto might just drag this show out of mediocrity on his own.

I haven’t had a problem with the twins. I feel pretty confident about their motivations but the complaint is so common that I can’t really blame you for having it. The creativity is off the charts for me though out the series. Hand to hand combat, Barash vow, witches, flashbacks.

Why does Sol leave all the Jedi bodies on the planet? Didn’t seem like he needed to be in a hurry to get off the planet.

They went into the forest on foot. How exactly should Sol & MaeOsha go about getting 8 dead Jedi back to their ship after both have just been stunned w/out first returning to their ship to retrieve a means to do so or just call it in for a Jedi coroner/CSI crew come do the cleanup. Not that we are likely to see any if that in the show as it needs to move on w/ the plot. 🤷‍♂️ As for not needing to be in a hurry to get back to the ship (we don’t know that they are leaving yet but granted that’s something one does w/ a ship), Qimir soon returns so clearly it was a good idea to get outta there and collect themselves after getting their assess handed to them. 🤷‍♂️ Edit: meant to add that this is also why I don’t buy the Indara as Qimir’s master theories as her death would have been investigated & her body & saber collected to be dealt w/ in the manner of the era (likely no different than we see in TCW).

Definitely think Qimir and Sol know they’ve the other sister because Sol doesn’t say osha or mae, simply “your sister” so he could be luring her back to the temple to bargain or trap Qimir because he also didn’t go to kill osha and we know he was trying/ or at least pretending to want mae dead. If he really wanted to kill mae why take off her cuffs and leap after her? Though the osha flip flopping about who she feels guilt over dying. She cried over one bug and yet sent a whole swarm after Qimir. The show is going uphill but slowly

I think Michael may very well be right with the Osha/Mae swap of the apprentices/acolytes where, maybe if the Jedi (Sol?) wiped her mind of the events of that night at her coven and Qimir unlocks her memories and what happened that night, she may very well become enraged at the Jedi and turn sides.

I anticipate that Sol and Mae don't make it back to Coruscant and that Vernestra has to travel to them. That presents an opportunity for the "Sith" information to not make it back Ki-Adi-Mundi's way, so nothing breaks canon. And I expect next episode will be called either "Free Will" or "Choice" as a counterbalance to the episode "Destiny" and will be Mae's flashback. And the final two episodes will be called "Justice / Revenge" and "Found / Lost" to complete the duality.

I don't understand why, when Qimir was disarmed and apparently bested by Sol, Sol just let him get up and pick up his weapon to keep fighting. This is after he has killed all of his fellow Jedi, including his Padawan. Why didn't he just take him prisoner then? Cut off his arms and legs so he stops being a threat and arrest him?

Action was great but 5 episodes in and i just still felt no emotional investment into the characters. Jecki died and we hardly got to know her then I don’t even know who those other Jedi’s were. Also, in all the years following this the empire just said f it we don’t need to use this metal for armor that shorts out sabers and blocks blaster shots?

I think it has DEFINITELY not all been Qimir’s grand plan to get Osha as his pupil. It may be now, but it wasn’t until she “defeated” him w/out a weapon. He tried to kill her earlier in the ep by throwing his saber at her & Sol deflects it slicing the trees. Incidentally, as much as I’ve 🙄 re the various petty complaints that have been levelled at this show (fire in space, KAM’s bday etc.) I found myself noticing one this ep. The trees nonsensically fall in the opposite direction of their cuts because it would be inconvenient for the next action scene & they didn’t change the direction of the cuts because… 🤷‍♂️ ?!? 🧐🤔 it was… odd.

I get that jecki like young and that sol calls her s child but she is 18. And this mission wasn't supposed to be so that dangerous especially not with 8 Jedi and hopefully kelnaca this was meant represent overwhelming Jedi force. They certainly were NOT expecting to encounter a sith Lord. So jecki want supposed to be in much danger certainly not more than her training had prepared her for. Hell she was better prepared for the unexpected danger they faced than most of the full Jedi knights and masters that they brought.

I don't mind that Jedi do turn to the dark side, but... it has been pretty clear that the Light and Dark are pretty binary. If you do 'evil things', you turn/fall. Now, I know there are some people that are in the 'gray' like Ahsoka or Bendu, but neither of those are running around willy nilly killing people or causing suffering. Sol being goaded into striking someone down in anger or hate or doing other things like killing someone who's disarmed and at a Jedi's mercy seems pretty clear cut for the rules they've established even in the OT with the Emperor goading Luke to strike him down, the PTs, etc. I don't mind exploring the darker side, but the rules they've established, both, handcuff the Jedi in the SW world/universe, but also in the practical storytelling sense.

What if Qimir was a rejected padawan candidate by Sol, and so he went down the dark side to grow his power? Another random prediction, what if Ki-Adi-Mundi kills Qimir, would add a new context to his line in the prequels.

This was another episode I really enjoyed a ton, but my two biggest beefs are Sol not being able to tell it was Mae and not Osha despite having been Osha's master for nearly 10 years and seeming to have a special connection versus Mae who he barely knows. Also, how does Mae go from being willing to surrender to the Jedi to resisting Jecki trying to arrest her. There's other stuff that were probably issues, but the above were my two main beefs with the episode. I don't know they can get out of Sol not knowing b/c if he's playing dumb, he just left Osha in the forest with a Sith (though maybe he think the Sith died to... a bunch of moths, I guess...), but if he genuinely doesn't know, that feels implausible, too, given they were close for nearly 10 years.

For now I’ll chalk it up to disorientation from being stunned & it’s been a long crappy night (don’t know how long a night is on Khofar but the fighting ran the entirety of it) for Sol, he’s processing A LOT. 🤷‍♂️. But yeah, I hear ya & we’ll see how things develop now that they’re back at the ship and he’s had a chance to collect himself. It was a particularly odd choice to have MaeOsha answer Sol w/ “Who?”. If someone asks me where she is & I’m one of two remaining females left alive, I’m not at all puzzled as to who I’m being asked about. Only way I can see it is if she was testing to see if he could already figure out who she actually is (she has to know he quickly and she just wants to buy enough time to… 🤷‍♂️ get off Khofar ?) As for resisting arrest, the way I see it is that she sees the Jedi getting their ass’s handed to them & figures it’s not a good idea to be in cuffs/custody waiting to find out IF any of them survive and be left a sitting duck for Qimir. When she bailed last ep, Qimir said her master will kill her but she was confident at the time that there was no way he was going to get to them in the next 10min (time established to get to Kelnacca) or really at all until after she’d be taken back to Coruscant (or wherever) not realizing he’s it. Mae is doing what she knows best & has been doing since returning alone to the Bunta tree @ 8 yrs old, surviving. A real head scratcher for me was that Yord & Jecki were the ones that commented on the Umbramoths (Shadow or Darkness moths) being attracted to Sol’s saber. And now he has no idea what Osha is going on about ? Maybe if there was a point to drive home that he’s never been the brightest kid in class for some story point, but now it just seems like adding insult to inju…uhhh…death ?

Yeah right now for me, the main thing that doesn’t make sense is Qimir’s motivation. He said he just wants to be free to use the force in the way he wants. But to use it for what purpose? He wants an acolyte for what reason? What’s his goal? He was forcing Mae to kill Jedi, why? You just said you want to be free. No one was hunting Qimir that we know of, he’s the one that started the whole conflict by having Mae kill Jedi. As far as we know at least

I disagree with praising the director on this. It was poorly lit, I couldn't understand what was happening half the time, and not focusing in to show the Cotorsis the first time it was used is pretty rookie stuff. It's a shame because the choreo looked great, but it's like if the thriller dance scene was behind trees in the forest. We can't appreciate or fully understand what's happening. Poor choices on everyone except for Quimir and Sol's actors

I really like the action and really disliked the direction. Sol disappearing while his whole group gets killed makes Qimir being able to fend off Sol and Jecki together butch then struggling against Sol solo makes no sense.
