I broke my relationship with food with a decade of ED. But over the past 12 months I've been focused on healing my relationship with food and cooking. I still have a long road ahead of me, but I've come so far from a year ago, and I'm so proud of what I've accomplished and the choices I've made. It's a long journey, and often times an emotional one. But it's so worth it.

When I learned biology & chemistry in high school, I already started wondering why the fitness industry kept calling out 1 thing after another a 'common enemy'. First it was fat, then it was sugar, then it was seed oil, then it was FODMAP and whatever. Then I realized it was all just a big marketing scheme to confound the public to sell whatever the new hit fad diet and supplement was, when basic nutritional biology was there all along and most of us have been through it and have studied it. The key is as you say, adding more, not restricting. We need to listen to our body, and eat a variety of things to have a healthy body. What most people don't realize is that when they deprive themselves of 1 thing, be it fat or carb, the body will start craving it and will send literal brain signals to cause the craving, and will make up for the lack of nutrition in other ways. A lack of 1 or more key nutrients will affect our hormones, our mood, our metabolism, and even our willpower. Eat a variety of food, and each one in moderation. It's just as bad to restrict a single type of nutrient as it is to eat too much of it.

@@saicsclinical dietitian here! What matters here is not only eating in this combination (carbs, protein, fats, fibre and what makes you happy) but also the quality of food that you eat. Yes, fries and coke will make you full but for a short amount of time. Instead, try pairing one of your favourite foods with something to add to it. For example; mixing fries with vegtable fries (vegetables cut into fries), also remember to do portion control (50-50) of both types of fries instead of adding veggie fries to a full portion of traditional fries. Make a homemade yoghurt or tofu based sauce for dipping. What matters is the quality of the carbs you’re having, limit simple carbs (limit not eliminate) and add complex carbs.

I have been eating this way for over a year now, and yes I eat healthy carbs and sugar, but I also IM fast and exercise regularly. There is a method to this madness 😅 now if you’re starting out and are over weight there might be a certain strategy you may need to implement, if you want a faster fat loss, but I am in maintenance phase and I just want a long term plan that works for me and let’s me be happy. I’ve worked so hard for so many years. Now it’s time to fit a plan into my daily life that I can keep for long term. 😊 let me stress that everyone is different and not every plan works for everyone, so trial and Erin could quite possibly be your way of learning what works best for you individually. ❤

I wish more people were as intelligent as you and had your clarity in dealing with problematic people in their life, who happen to mostly be someone they're "romantically" involved with/married to, and were just as timely in ditching them as you were with this friend who had become more trouble for you than the friendship was worth. Good job on doing your best to help him out but still putting yourself first. More people should follow your example in getting out of any toxic associations they may have in their lives.

This is why I'm loving my light intermittent fasting (one day a week, I'm trying to lose a lot of weight) diet. It makes me happy, and ever since I started I feel stronger and naturally crave mostly healthy food. I hate diets that are all about restricting types of food and measuring calories. I just can't stand to obsess over food like that.

@@vladb2154i think she’s talking about 24h fasting which is usually used after a big food party to kinda balance your calories intake So Monday you eat a lot at 8pm for example and you won’t eat anything until the next day same time so Tuesday around 8pm Then you come back to your normal habits Wednesday

@Mew__ i agree...i have very little amylase in my body and the apoe4 gene that makes me extremely insulin resistant...I'd just as soon swallow a hand grenade for all the good that'd do...I'm also a recovering type 2 diabetic on a ketovore diet...I dropped the fruit, grains, and starches and can go 20- 23 hours without eating...God bless Dr. Robert Atkins 😀 😉 😊 😄 👍!

Carbohydrate is literally the fuel your cells use to generate energy. What are you talking about? The body processes carbohydrates into simple sugars, then converts that sugar into glycogen which it can use to generate ATP. Of course you would feel tired and sleepy after you have stuffed yourself with way too many slices of pizzas, but that's overeating and that's a different story. Eating enough carbs will energize your body, and if you deprive yourself of carbs during lunch, you will feel the cranky consequences, or hangry, the whole afternoon until dinner time.
@Mew__4 күн бұрын
@KhanhTheLearner you are confusing what is called a carbohydrate in nutrition with what is called a carbohydrate in chemistry. According to the false dichotomy that you have just put forward, it would be impossible to have cell metabolism on a diet of just proteins and fats. These compounds are just converted into glucose as well. Carbs are not the only source of glucose.

I tend to eat a lot of frozen or processed foods out of convenience, and I am chronically tired. I'd definitely like to start transitioning more into a diet like this rather than just popping frozen pizzas because I don't feel like taking the extra 5 minutes to make something healthier

Do you see what she is eating? She showed a ton of nutritional food, not junk food. She is encouraging people who eat as little as possible to have nutritious meals. Diet culture says healthy means as skinny as possible. I believed that lie when I was anorexic. I thought I was being healthy by barely eating. However, I was weak, cranky, and miserable because my body wasn't nourished. A variety of nutrients is way healthier than eating one egg white for the low calories.
