That's just the best description of an old Volvo. Change the battery, massage the starter and she'll drive right out of her grave on her own. What a beast, love it. =)

That's crazy! I mean I'm not surprised that it started, myself have learned almost everything I know from my Volvo 940 because except stuff is hard to get loose after they have rusted shut the actual car itself is pretty easy to fix and learn from. But the feeling seeing a car that has been standing outside for so long all covered in algea just start up so easily, that's an amazing feeling! Well done!

Volvos never die! I finally got my 850 running again after 2 years of sitting, it had some lifter tick for awhile but smoothed out after about 20 minutes of idling. I’ve had so many other cars that have come and gone since the day I bought my 850 when I was 16 but have refused to ever sell or scrap the 850 because I’m sentimentally attached to it I guess. I had so many good times in that car and it was fun car for myself at the time and wasn’t slow by any means. I parked it 2 years ago when I was 18 after I was having bad transmission problems but the engine itself was fine. Has just over 200k on it. I’m 20 now and was pretty proud of myself when I got it started after tinkering with it for a few days. It’s a great car if you’re just learning to work on cars like me too. I did not drive it yet, but will tomorrow and not very far as the transmission starts acting up as soon as it warms up after 30 minutes. Will be taking it for a drive around my block and then will replace the transmission when the weather warms up. Great thing about these cars is there are so many DIY step by step guides online and on KZbin as well

That's why electric cars is the future, the industry can't afford making cars that lasts 30 years + and travel 1 million kilometres with minimum maintenance. You have buy a new one every 10 years max or buy a new battery + motor that costs 80% of vehicle.

Yes, the whole world has changed now, the idea of having any product designed to last a long time is very old fashioned now. That is why I love Volvos, because they were designed to be extremely comfortable, safe, and many are lasting far longer than originally anticipated.

And now comes the fun part of replacing all gaskets, rubber components, bushings, bearings, lights, fix the electricity, clean it, fix the doors and interior and then you have a good old volvo. Would probably be better off just changing the engine on it though and maybe give the gearbox a good look.

I own a Volvo 740GL 1989 Sedan Beige and I have a same issue on ABS. Sometimes the ABS lights turns on when I accerate. But ABS light off, sometimes the braking system shakes when the car stops but it doesn't do that all the time! My local Volvo Masons tried to fix it but the problem remain the same. I have to get use to it and there is no danger! All braking pads changed and no issue on my Volvo 740GL! :)
