My nephews LOOOOOOOOOOOOVED them some Shaq. I, unfortunately, or fortunately, I took them to his movies and bought his games for them. The oldest of the set of brothers even got the Superman emblem on his arm. At 16. My sister was piiiiiiiiiiiiissed. Anywho, we were not the riches family, but my Mom knew his family. So she asked if Shaq could donate shoes to my nephews, they were really tall. The tallest of the set of the brothers is 6'7. Their feet were big for no dang reason, so shoes cost a crapload of money. Size 16 ain't no joke. And he did give them shoes. That was where their love of him came from. I never met him, but he is a really nice guy. My nephews are in their 30s and early 40s now and they still love him.

The sad fact that Steel failed and it is one of my favorite characters from Death of Superman. I would still love to see a reboot movie in 2022 about Steel with Iron man mechanized practical suit effects, his red cape, jet boots, large hammer, insignia and mention of Superman in film taking place in Metropolis this time. This needs done by great writers, great effects team, and great cast of course.

It's funny how when we are young and what we think is Kool at the time and then watch it again years later and like WTF was I thinking lol. The Shaq character was huge back in the 90s, at least he wasn't afraid to try new things.

Almost 10 years later after this movie was made, Jon Favreau took this exact idea , put it in a movie ,gave the title role 2 an over40ish, ex- junkie actor fresh out of prison named Robert Downey jr. The result was Iron Man. That single movie spawned the billion-dollar franchise of 22 films called the MCU. The sequel, Iron Man 2, although not as thrilling as the original film, also featured a black military officer in state-of-the-art, armored exoskeleton suit. That role was given to Don Cheadle and he became War Machine got this character was successfully included in 5 of the MCU film franchise. Including Iron Man 2 Iron Man 3 Captain America Civil War, Avengers Infinity War , Avengers endgame..... once again the same idea as Steel ... This time with a black man. But ultimately the difference was simply the movie making was in the hands of better directors and better casting directors. all five of those movies had the lead character as an ex-military scientist who becomes A superhero in a high-tech exoskeletal armored suit. You can make that movie today and it will probably be profitable, if not critically-acclaimed. In the hands of a right director. I'm sure at some point someone will try to reboot that character in a movie. You already have a a superhero that's not that dissimilar 2 Steel called Cyborg . He is about to be rebooted in Zack Snyder's Justice League cut.

When Steel first came out, it felt like a slap in the face to my inner comicbook geek. However, over twenty years later, it’s one hell of a fun watch. It may not be entertaining the way it was intended to be, yet it still is. At the end of the day, a good time is all I really want from a movie. Steel delivers on that.
