wow, man I learned a ton during that video, I got a lot of trees of all kinds, and I am just now getting into grafting, even the oriole bird at the end, I just found out what a oriole was a week ago and its one of my favorite birds in my garden, this one was for me

Some of those rootstock you pull up in the spring can take a graft right away to grow that year.! 😮

Hello Mr. Stefan! I have a question for you! I have planted pear trees 4 years ago and last year i got my first pears to eat. This year we had nice timing for the flowers and polination so i picked some of the little pears. Now i'm starting to see new flowers on this years fresh shoots. I read that pears and apples only produce fruit on three year old branches. I am surprised and i would like to know why! Sorry if i butchered the spelling!

Good question András. I also have that happen occasionally and never looked into why. These late flowers usually does not give fruit.

Next year's flowers are decided by this year's healthiness. Perhaps an oversupply of nutrients? This might lead to a tie up of nutrients (from an imbalance) in the year after, kind of an up and down supply instead of being more stable and so a biennial flowering might be encouraged, which is not desirable.

I have heard that pear can be grafted onto hawthorn. Have you tried this? Is there anything else that can be grafted onto hawthorn? Thx.

I only know pear and quince... but its not used today cause the risk of fireblight...

I've seen it used (pear on hawthorn) but have not seen the results long term (more than 5 years). There are probably other combinations.

Would have been better off grafting to the root stalk. Looks like the trees are really sickly and struggling frankensteined like that.

How feasible would it be to use some nitrogen fixing species as 'root stock'?

Fine if you want to graft the same species of nitrogen fixing tree. Best to graft within the same species. Between families there is no compatibility or very little chance.

Idéal depend de l'objectif. Un demi acre à 1,000 acres, j'aimerais voir de grands verger de ce type.
