Joel is super based. We are so fortunate to have found a small church here in the UK that ignored the covid rules and our pastor is a godly man who loves the Lord, loves the word and loves me and my family very well (he gives my 3 year old daughter a piggy back ride to our car after thr service each week!). He isn't as based as joel, but compared to vast majority of evangelical leaders in the uk, he's deeply concerned and vocal on political issues. Very glad to serve as a deacon for him

I think there is a massive vacuum of sermons that make you squirm. Sermons are plentiful that ease the conscience but it’s the ones that make you sweat that drive change. I know what drove me to my church is hearing the Bible preached without apology and in its full strength. I am a man in my 30’s who grew up without a dad, nearly devastated my family with sin and still fight to keep my heart on Christ and it’s not soothing sermons that keep me headstrong moving forward. There is a place for it so you don’t fall into despair or self pity but the need for Godly strength and clear teaching is far more pressing. I am perpetually amazed at all the ways the world has contorted and conditioned my thinking on so many issues. Godly men have to rise up to lead. If manly God fearing men don’t raise up the next generation, godless ruthless pagan men will and many of them walk in step with their feminist counterparts.

I have many times rewatched the episodes on women because no pastor whether local or online has the chops to reprimand women or even to instruct us in our proper roles. These guys have already answered implicitly, right? (1) Integrity with sin holistically like John Owen’s book, Mortification of Sin. A good tree these guys reminded us cannot bear bad branches or fruits. And (2) Have a spiritual father in church, hopefully your pastor or an elder? Kill every sin you become aware of with integrity… but you also need a father for accountability, teaching and leadership. At least that’s what I hear.

I’m not sure if I agree with your opening premise that moral failures are merely tied to cowardice behaviors. You can be very courageous and still have a moral failure such as adultery. Both Samson and King David were very courageous men who had a moral failure when it came to women. Unfortunately women tend to be a lot of men’s weakness.
@Lakemisch
@Lakemisch Ай бұрын
You missed the point. Coward/Character --- Samson had bad character and was a coward to Delilah. His being a coward brought the problem full circle .
@haiasinosdnah0813
@haiasinosdnah0813 Ай бұрын
@@Lakemisch having a lapse of judgement doesn’t equate to being labeled as a coward. Those are different categories. If a lapse in judgement, which results in falling into sin, is considered cowardice then we are all cowards in some form or fashion. The judge Barak was an example of a coward because his overall demeanor exemplified it, this would also apply to King Saul. Notice that these men were cowards because of their innate demeanor which had no association with any moral failure connected with women. Samson and King David were bold like lions yet they succumbed to the appeal of woman, which led to their lapse in judgment. I think the allure of women, whether it be a wife or a mistress, causes many men to stumble. Hence God telling the Israelites before entering into the promise land to not take for themselves wives that were in the land due to the likelihood that those pagan women would turn the hearts of the Israelites away from the Lord their God. Even the angels, as described in Genesis 6, stumbled as a result of the appeal of women. You can have an overall courageous demeanor and have a weak moment which gives way to a lapse of judgment leading to sin, yet that singular moment should not define you as a coward. If that’s the case, then Peter was always a coward, even when he boldly professed Jesus Christ throughout the book of Acts to the authorities; because that moment when he denied Jesus three times earned him the label of coward. I wouldn’t label Peter a coward because of that lapse of judgment in that singular moment.

Trying to decipher what you are saying in the light of the Bible , in terms of “ prolonged sin “ that brings “displeasure from the Father”. Why not speak like the oracles of God and quote the Bible ? It clearly speaks of “ grieving of the Holy Spirit “ whenever we commit sin , specifically when knowing that we are doing wrong . Where does the Bible speak of “ prolonged “sinning ? The only place that comes to mind is a place in 1 John 3:4 -6 that reads as follows , "Everyone who makes a practice of sinning also practices lawlessness; sin is lawlessness…whosoever abides in Him does not sin ( does not keep on practicing / perfecting sin / continuous present tense ); whosoever sins has not seen Him , neither known Him .”

I would guess that they learned this from experience. It makes sense to me that there is a difference between sin which is accidental or which is repented of quickly, and that sin which is knowingly engaged in and takes place for a long time. In the former, the there have been few opportunities for repentance, and in the latter, many. Christians can't expect to be perfect, but we can expect to repent. So it does make sense that the length of time it takes a person to repent says something about his faith.

That's because most pastors aren't biblical. The Bible commands that those who are elders/pastors who commit grave sins and continued to be exposed to the church for the sake of the church. God commanded that by exposing publicly, he wanted the church members to know FEAR (1 Tim :20). I understand that the modern day lawsuits and sensibility prevent public exposures, but God's command does not take the Church's finance or humiliation into consideration. He publicly humiliated the Church in Thyatira in Revelation because of their tolerance of Jezebel. For two thousands years, that church was ashamed for it's lack of discernment.

@@Guineaster Look at the state of Christianity in America. A communist nation like China is more of a "Christendom" than the US. Abortion, porn, drugs, etc. are illegal there. Look at us. 1,700 years of Christian morality and in the 20th century we became the worst exporter of abortions, porns, drugs, and everything decadent. These are symptoms of the lack of FEAR of the Lord.

Definitely untrue to say Doug is the only one. Until James disagreed with the current crusader drama, he said everything Doug said. Just because James doesn’t agree with Wolfe isn’t reason to disregard all the stands he has made against the culture. James is a full on theonomist, just disagrees with Stephen on his version of CN. Stephen doesn’t help with his loud mouth and James doesn’t help with his loud mouth. But claiming Doug is the only one, is just patently false. There are few, and that’s a major problem, but it isn’t Doug all by himself.

“Has not passed over the reformed house” The idea that Calvinistic soteriology makes one Reformed is strange. Most in “the reformed camp” have little to no ecclesiology, little to no sacramentology (a huge point in the reformation) irrecognizable covenant theology (for the baptists) what does this supposed “reformed” camp retain that makes them Reformed?

You need Joel Beeke for that! Biblical leadership according to Joel Beeke begins with leading family worship daily and role modelling Christ day in day out at home. Nothing wrong for a woman to do that in a home without father or if fathers won’t do that? I often wonder why Paul praises Timothy’s mother and grandmother for shaping his faith through their teaching and example? But never praise his father? Most likely, it is because nearly all Christian men sinfully refuse to lead just like Adam who let his wife take the lead and then blamed both God and her. No wonder Joel states here the lack of spiritual fathers in church including the lack of godly fatherhood in pastors & churches, sadly.

That’s because reformed pastors are truly busy preaching the true gospel - Christ crucified. But when culture and faith clashes directly as when Joe Biden congratulates and celebrates LGBT on Easter Day, Matthew Everhard (reformed Presbyterian pastor) did an excellent video rebuttal on that one. Sometimes folks like Joel mean very well but by focusing on cultural them-us applications as opposed to other applications of Jonathan Edwards’ like personal examination, repentance and purity, he’s not pointing us to Christ crucified but a finger at God’s people for not taking a political stand but how political was Jesus when he was asked whether to pay taxes to Caesar? Calvinists who are dispensationalists seem to go all-political but as a reformed covenant-theology Calvinist, I believe own repentance for loving God little and not knowing Him as I should (Knowing Christ by Mark Jones) and for not making Him known to everyone I know personally, is far, far more needed in our lives than politically, ‘taking a stand’? If people are truly converted by the gospel I preached, then, they won’t be promoting or practising queer theology or abortion or euthanasia? To preach cultural applications is sometimes a well-intentioned cop-out by dispensationalists and an escape from preaching in season and out of season, the offensive message of the Cross of Christ crucified and risen, to be honest.

How many secretive relationships between other pastors and their side pieces are now going to end because of this revelation about Steve Lawson who always appeared to be as strait-laced and disciplined as possible in ministry? Problem is for some of these other guys is that they’re gonna have to start making payments for women to keep quiet but then eventually that winds up with it being revealed anyway so don’t be surprised that you’ll hear more of this. On top of this, how many pastors don’t have actual physical mistresses but do online ones that their wives don’t know about? Know what I’m getting at?
