When sketching a figure doing something, like deeply reading, focus on capturing the gesture and movement, not just copying the pose. For seated or tricky angles, tweak the gesture lines to show the figure's posture accurately. Use a mix of long and short lines to show direction and add exaggerated lines for a dynamic feel. Check proportions with the pelvis as a midpoint. The aim is to get the figure's essence and motion down, refining details later.

Thanks Michael, it's amazing the representation we can achieve by line only, or even silhouette, without ever considering light and shade. My old teacher said, always solve foundational issues early, or you will never be happy with the outcome. Thanks for this ongoing work. I use your model everyday.

Thank you sir. I had struggles improving on gesture and making it click until I found your materials. I feel like your analytical approach is very compatible with me. Incredibly high tier resource. Your channel deserves to blow up on KZbin.

I am very thankful for your videos and hope you keep making more of them. Your book is absolutely great, but seeing the process with explanation in real time really helps to understand subject matter, both complement each other. Videos basically explain any concern or confusion I find when going through the book, so please, feel appreciated.

Lol. I imagine this guy is having a tense reading session on the toilet. Hence the very 'activated' pose.

1:37 when you say "thoracic line" is this line really closer to representing the sternum and you're just calling it that because its in the thoracic region? I'm really struggling with this lol.... i might be over thinking it. I bought your book about a year ago and I'm still having a hard time
@stevenmichaelhampton

Yes. When the figure is bending forward it is closer to the sternum. When standing it is a representation of the thoracic area.

Thank you for great lectures. But background music are really disturbing. It is much better to deep into lesson without any music.

This is a bit too much to ask, but have you considered membership for your channel? Lots of KZbinrs have a Join option on their channel where they give their members exclusive content. I think it would be a good way to gather an audience, I’d be willing to pay monthly for this.

@@masterroshi690 I know, it was just a suggestion, I am not an expert but I see some potential in the membership idea. I would say it’s worth just having that option.
