Cool to see this. Other channels say you "must" have a Sahara or Rubicon...this was a great demonstration of what a basic Jeep can do. I've been looking to get my first Jeep and have hesitated when considering the Sport/S. For what I'll be doing (fire roads, easy trails, occasional shallow water) I think the Sport/S will do just fine!

Does getting a Rubicon help while doing some rock crawling? Absolutely, those HD axles and lockers are great. But do you need a Rubicon to go off-road? Not at all! If mild/moderate trails are your plans, sticking with a Sport or Sahara will be just fine! You can always get a lift and bigger tires down the road. 😁 -Zach

Really dig the stance of the TJ on those 35's, but hey Ryan, TJ heat is the best, I never get cold in my TJ. No need for those cream puff, fluff bells and whistles of a JL. Heated steering wheel?? That sounds very prima-donna. Anyway, I have an '05 TJ Rocky Mtn with the amazing AMC 4.0 I6, 32" ko2's and 2" Old Man Emu coils, Currectlync steering, Freedom Off Road front adj track bar and their front lower adj control arms, rest are fixed Detroit Axles, transfer case drop kit, JKS quick disconnects, M.O.R.E steering box brace, Fox 2.0 Shox and Fox steering stabilizer. And this modest build has given me the absolute best vehicle I've had. All in, I'm at $25k and this rig more than keeps up with today's way overpriced JLs. In fact, it outperform most of these because of people's inexperience and/or their lack of off road instincts and common sense. I might add ARB lockers and 32" BFG MT's to do more challenging off roading. But it's been a blast with the current set up. The TJ in my opinion is the greatest Jeep generation of them all. The best Jeeps have the 2 door short wheel base, round headlights, soft top and a 4.0L O|||||||O 🇺🇸 Only in a 2 dr 🇺🇸 '41 - '06

TJs are definitely closer to the original CJs than the JLs are. But in a world where new cars keep getting more and more technology in them, FCA really can't put out a new "TJ" and expect it to sell like hotcakes. The new JLs definitely are fancy when you option them out, but I own a base-model Sport and it's pretty bare bones for today's standards. Roll up widows, manual locks, steel wheels, cloth seats, halogen lights, no heated steering wheel or heated seats, etc. The new JL is still a Jeep, it's just modernized. -Zach

I went back to a TJ from a JKUR because the B-pillar was always in my peripheral. Being that my first Jeep was a CJ and had such a great "open air" feel, the JK/JL was to "closed in" for my taste.

I, too, sold my JK and went back to a TJ. I also picked up another YJ as this was the first model that started it all for me when I was first getting into Jeeps. They may not be a JL with all the bells and whistles but they are sure very solid. The one thing I absolutely hated about the JK was the cheap thin metal. It dented very easy. Im not sold on this new aluminum panel stuff for the JL either. Higher cost and more expensive to fix. Not for me!

Ran the stock tires on my JKU until end of last year. It has been to rausch, ure, flag pole knob and playing with its bigger cousins all day long. Even though it is now wearing the at ko2’s (amazing btw) having had to pick lines in a stockish jeep for awhile made me sincerely appreciate and probably better navigate a ton of play areas later. As for this build my suggestion would be a balance build. The 2.0 designed for better fuel economy coupled with some smart aftermarket decisions could make for a good sell. Obviously roll 4.56 diffs and a full 35 x 12.5 tire might seriously cut into whatever savings you might be trying to achieve with fuel economy especially in the day to day. I would be interested to see if less was more. A 1 inch to 2 inch level and spacing with a solid set of 33’s at. How would something that simple compare to the stock trail riding you already did? Would even that small amount push it up that last obstacle? Btw want to see stock tires on Dickey bell Uwharrie look no further kzbin.info/www/bejne/ip7MlIljpc2Vfpo

Is it cheaper to get the base model and just put in lockers on your own VS the Rubicon?
@extremeterrain
@extremeterrain 4 жыл бұрын
I'll put it this way; if you plan on needing lockers at some point while off-roading, its a *lot* more convenient getting a Rubicon if you can afford it. By the time you buy a Sport with a couple options, then add a small lift kit, larger tires and lockers, the price will work itself out to be about the same if you can get a good deal on a Rubicon. Considering you also get the electronic swaybar disconnect, larger brakes, a heavier duty transfer-case with a lower crawl ratio, 4.10 gears compared to 3.45s that come with other models, rock rails, etc, the Rubicon is a solid package. Hope this helps! -Zach

Most of the time I'm off road I am alone. I bought a LJ simply because it was the last Wrangler that is simple enough for me to be comfortable being able to do any repairs if I breaks down off road. New Jeeps are for people who have other people work on their vehicles. Parts for a TJ are inexpensive and available at any major auto parts store. 95% of the tools you need can be found at auto parts store. Bottom line is a TJ is one of the easiest vehicles to work on that has been made in the past 20 years.
