So this is one of my all time favorite games. The devs built it and had great ideas and foresight and had so many good things going and they sold it to a company who they thought would let them grow to what they wanted. Riot Games however promptly halted any more production and left the project with barely a third of the planned content. The ACE mod is the original developers modding their own game. Thankfully they made mod capabilities before selling the rights.

Do you have any source for that, I would love to know if true before considering buying the game, because the only information I seem to be able to find is that the dev's are now working for RIOT games, and from what I can gleam from ACE, they are just community modders and nothing else.

@@Worldowner At least the game is easy enough to blow open considering it's all uncompiled. Modders can literally change everything if they wish so. Tho I have to say, I followed the game since somewhat early in the beta, and I never really liked the direction the devs were aiming for (They wanted more of a city builder than a colony manager). The game also always looked like a technical mess, straight from the ground up. The project was just too ambitious for such a small team. I don't think a 3D colony manager is something an indie dev team can make, at least not to the level of success that Rimworld or DF do in 2D.

Not a surprise the devs supported this. They really loved the game and the fanbase, but many felt they needed to move on to new projects after all the ups and downs with their very first game (design challenges and realizing things were more complex then they thought). So, yeah, I'm definitely not surprised they were willing to support fans wanting to improve upon it. That's far and away better support than many developers gave, or give, fans and players after moving on (or even after claiming they're still working on it).

The problem with 1.0 wasn't that the game was buggy. The problem was that they made promises they didn't keep when it comes to the content, they didn't finish their own plans for the game's content, and "1.0" is just their way of saying "We've abandoned the game but don't want to admit it." - The company got bought, the game got soft canceled, and they left it to the community to finish what they got paid to do and never delivered.

Kudos to the modders (which included some of the devs) for picking up where the devs abandoned and actually doing something with it. Something anything to save the potential of this game. But as the base "game" is now, it is a skeleton. Even with this mod it only went from bare bone to somewhat playable. Especially with how one of the main draw of the game was the module system where users can make their own little adventure modules and such using a in game editor of sorts. This system could've given stonehearth near infinite player generated content. But now it's only modders trying to fix the left overs that the devs abandoned.
