My Art Block: Dopamine overdosing from content ( netflix/insta etc) By shutting out multiple screens for a couple days, I realize that instead of inspiring me, I was being overstimulated to the point of numbness. Going back to basics, shutting out the noise, and focusing on simplicity opens the flow of creativity. Hope this helps anyone in similar boats.

You can really tell how much effort and time you put into your videos and work Ashleigh. This one was a gut check for me. It helped me realize I haven’t been focusing on making art that I enjoy, I have instead just been thinking of whether other people would like it😅 Thank you for this!! Also…is that Brett’s eye??
@AshleighKing2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Bret! It's definitely something I realized about myself recently too, so I understand that pressure. Wishing you the best with making art you really really enjoy! haha..it's not, but it was a red head's eye. I may need to branch out to painting types of people 😅

How proud u ought be, not only for your natural abilities but the focus u hold tight, your own will, dear Ashleigh. You persevere and that is what eventually smashes all blocking, whatever the intermediate defensive tactics u follow or test. Mood is often blamed in art production as elsewhere, but moody one becomes thru several reflective stages alongside a set physical condition or context. Portraiture i dont get readily moved by, but yr 'confidence' in dipping your brush in this and that pigment, mixing them to the appropriate hue, captivates me. (The 3rd canvas is also a study of limited color, which u broaden all the way to border another color in one's mind eye.) So much that, i hope someday, to (politely) place an order that, u wd paint for me the portrait of one Captain Wentworth, (male actor Ciaran Hinds), of J. Austen's novel, Persuasion. Hugs to u for painting the 'sleeping bumble bee'.

So incredibly kind of you to say! I am proud of myself for continuing my practice and seeing improvement is rewarding. Thank you for noticing. The third painting of the Spanish Prince is great. Art block can be in different degrees, like I have quit art say 5 times, it hurts each time a little more or less. But when you can wonder if you're ever meant to pick up a paint brush again it hurts more than say just not feeling it for a week. But I agree this topic is rich with nutrition for the heart for color that can teach a person to see it as a gift to be a little bit perfectionist and in need of refreshing restart for the right purposes. Thanks so much for making it, I love your peaceful sense to your videos, keep doing them you're doing something great :)
@AshleighKing2 жыл бұрын
That is very true! I went through a period of art block for a few years, so this small one was nothing in comparison. I guess for me, it's about catching it before it turns into something bigger. I think you're completely right about the different degrees of art block though.Thanks so much for the encouragement!

Good morning 😃 I Just finished watching this weeks Vlog for the second time. It is amazing to me how the second watch is even more pleasing than the first. I was thinking as you were looking at the book with different pieces of art what you might be thinking as you see art. When you look at a complicated piece like the Van Gogh piece with the man’s face made with unusual colors and brushstrokes, do you think, “ I know how to do that”, or “I think I know how he did that”, and does that challenge you to try that out on your own? Also, I thought the promotional segment was very good. It was another great example of how being vulnerable helps people of good will. Plus, it was very natural and fit in with the vlog almost seamlessly. Great job!
@AshleighKing2 жыл бұрын
thank you!! When I look at those art pieces I know how he did some things but not others I guess haha. It’s also for color palette inspiration or ideas of things to paint. Like he did a lot of still life’s with books or flowers as well as portraits, which is what I’d like to do too 😊

Ashleigh, Ashleigh,Ashleigh. Would you like a teaching moment or right up advice/ comment? =) ( did you think i wouldnt comment?). Ok artists block. I think the thing that gets people in a rut is thinking that something is too difficult to do or they just cant do it. As you said in ones mind you want perfection yet we give up before we even start. I think that leads to a cascade effect that the next idea we have will be the same so why bother. People need to realize that in order to get "perfect" in your head you have to do it. Paint, draw,sculpt, whatever you do, just do something. It doesnt need to ba a master peice. Its the action and mind set of doing is what you need. There is also inspiration or what to paint, subject matter basicly. That can be found anywhere if you open your mind to it. A half empty toilet roll, dirt on the floor, Ashleighs videos, Ashleighs feet in ALL her videos. You get my meaning. It is also a good thing to take a break from doing Art and do something else. The park , the beach, the grocery store, read, binge watch that series you wanted, and yes Video games. It helps clear your head of values and tones and perspective and blocking and brush types , on and on and.. you get the picture. The simplest way to remove the block is just put brush, pencil,marker, chisel, to work and just do something even doodle. Thing is and you Ashleigh figured this out, its up to you to move forward in this adventure. People will be there to help you but they cant make you do it. Lastly artist block will also lead into excuses to not do art. If you are a person who keeps saying i dont have time or space to do what i love and that is art. It is up tp you to make the time or make the space to do it and just well... do it. Its all different forms of fear we have created in our own minds you control your mind so you control the doubts and blocks. Now Congrats on 100K subs. Ashleigh you know i adore you and i am very proud of how much you have accomplished. Keep going Keep being you. Personally i get inspired by you Ashleigh, i see so many things in your videos to do including you reflecting off windows. And if you ever need ideas or advice let me know i am here for you. and smile

Once again, incredible advice Randy! I definitely relate to your thoughts on a balance between taking a break, but also pushing through and just getting to making more artwork. Keeping these parts of my life in balance will always be a battle I think, but I know it's necessary to have both. Thank you so much! I really could not have predicted this outcome or wonderful community when I began six months ago. I would not trade it for the world and am so thankful for everyone here who constantly supports me and shares their art journeys/wisdom with me, like yourself. Have an amazing week!
