Thanks Rick! I've been hitting from the mat (early Spring) and hitting great shots, but noticed the "pounding" you're talking about. First few rounds this year (in soft, almost muddy turf) didn't go over so well. Approach shot irons just sank into the soft turf, causing all approach shots to land short, with huge divots. One area you addressed is to "stand tall". I have a tendency to curve my back, which is what is causing these deep divots. Thanks for the tip!

Posture and crowding the ball. Spot on, Rick. "Feel your heels" is my mental mantra to keep me from diving down towards the ball as is my tendency if not kept in check.

Thanks rick! What a timing, this has been my problem for some time now after my driving lessons. I hit both too fat and deep too often no matter what I do. On the driving lessons we concentrated "spinning on back foot" like throwing a discuss if you get the idea. I'm a 25 handicapper with a few months of golfing experience. With irons I need to concentrate especially on this height issue, I know that for sure. The rest of the video was also straight on point.

Hi Rick. Love the videos. I'd really like you to do a video on lie angle at address - iron sitting at address toe-up. I've made the mistake of setting up with the sole of the club level at address causing me to grip way down on the club to compensate. Doesn't seem to be mentioned a lot in instruction videos.

Rick, I know this is an old video but this is one of the few clips I've seen describe this accurately. I have two questions. Main one is what is the issue when you do graze the mat properly but it comes out a bit thin? Is it a lack of forward shaft lean? Also, can angle of attack be effected width in back swing or the left arm bending too much as well?

Nice video, I did work on that sometimes ago but now my problem (is it one, really?) is that I almost don't take divots at all anymore! I collect the ball off the ground and maybe brush the grass after it but that's all. I'm sort of worried that I may have too shallow an angle and lose compression/distance because of that...

My problem is that sometimes I'm too fat and sometimes too thin. Very little consistency with irons one way or the other with irons. When I get out on the course, I'd say my more common mistake is too thin. A bladed shot, but the next one could be massively fat. Very frustrating. Any suggestions would be hugely appreciated. Thx.
@fusilly__8 жыл бұрын
joec0914 You might be swaying a bit during the swing. When this happens to me I really focus on keeping my head inline with - or even somewhat in front of - the ball through the whole swing. Basically minimize horizontal movement.
@benholdaway53358 жыл бұрын
joec0914 when you hit it fat you might be slowing down your swing speed.
@creamabdul-jabbar67222 жыл бұрын
I start too low I believe. I started hitting the ball before the turf last year really good and it was because my weight on the front leg. But I think I have increased it too much. But I’ve always took too much ground. Even worse with my wedges because they’re more blade like.
@12345KNB8 жыл бұрын
I'm 6ft 3, and recently started recording my swing. I look awfully bunched up and crouched over the ball, even when I'm hitting decent shots. Are longer clubs the answer or a change of stance?

RICK! IS IT OKAY IF I DONT TAKE A DIVOT WITH A 9 IRON OR 8I. I FEEL LIKE I PURPOSELY HIT THE GROUND WITH MY HIGHER LOFTED IRONS SO I CAN TAKE A DIVOT. I VE SEEN PEOPLE THAT DONT TAKE DIVOTS IN THEIR IRONS AT ALL BUT DO WITH THEIR WEDGES.
@urmagistrate12858 жыл бұрын
To get the correct loft that the club offers, the low, point of your must at least be flush with the dirt under the grass, but taking a nice little divot out of the dirt is preferred. Try keeping your head the same height and keeping that left arm straight (if you're right handed). And keep your posture, you should have no problem pulling up some earth.
