Goshen County, Wyoming, 2009. This was documented *heavily*, not just by this but also by a bunch of other chasers, as well as the Storm Chasers show. Of the many things to note here, the film leaves out some details of this specific chase (and that year as a whole), including a completely different driver and cameraman, plus two other chasers who were right behind TIV, all of whom were on the show, and had their own footage uploaded onto KZbin. They definitely spliced a lot of different production footage into this sequence, and if I remember right basically every single other sequence, like the Wadena, MN tornado of 2010 that was a near direct hit but not quite, which was then promptly placed before this in 2009 for dramatic effect. Oh, and the Vortex 2 team? They barely helped TIV at all that year and the next, and in fact the IMAX crew was booted off the research convoy because of reckless driving a year later. While that may have been blown out of proportion due to the fact that we know all of this from reality TV, who really knows at this point. That being said, Wurman and company did get a lot of great data, all the papers that came from it are out on the internet. All the screaming, which was Sean, was definitely real: they found out the hard way that TIV2 didn't have anything holding the turret down on it's rollers, and when it got hit by fairly significant and swirling winds for the first time, it started bouncing up and down and risked being flung off the vehicle with the several thousand dollar camera and Sean himself. It does also leave out the late stage of this storm, in which it crossed the road that the Vortex guys were on. It was intercepted at this point by Reed Timmer in the original Dominator, and the late great Tim Samaras who dropped turtle probes just outside of the circulation if I remember right. Overall a classic tornado.
