So weird fact about me: this movie is one of my biggest guilty pleasures. I know it’s not good, I know it’s got some troubling implications, I know there’s too many songs crammed in, I know the animation gets super uncanny. And yet…. I kinda love it. I really love the fae folk aesthetic, I actually think a few of the songs stick the landing (I really, really love the “Strange Magic” love duet), and even though it’s got problematic elements and I agree it happens too fast, I actually really love the chemistry between Bog and Marianne. I dunno, I just think seeing these two grumpy characters bond over shared heartache and grow to care for each other as they are is really sweet? Also, there’s weirdly believable sexual tension between them and I’m like honestly good for them. Totally agree that Sunny’s a creep and King Dad needs to go into the garbage can though.

Fun fact: this movie was in development heck for a long time and there's a featurette on the dvd where a rather defeated looking George Lucas talks about how he wanted to have all original music and the original plan was indeed more epic, but he couldn't get the funding so they just started using licensed music and the whole thing ended up the way it is. I think he ends saying he likes the final result, but I think you can tell he doesn't really. Or perhaps I over interpreted his tone and expression thinking there's no way anyone could be happy at having to resort to Elvis to hinge their whole musical on because it's all they can afford.

I mean George Lucas is notoriously bad at film editing. His first wife is the one who made the original Star Wars trilogy what we know today. It could be that he’s satisfied but not happy he couldn’t make what he fully imagined which is perfectly fine. To quote other people here though: This movie is shit. It’s absolute trash. And it is and always will be one of my favorite films, just the way it is.

There are 3 versions of the Kelly Clarkson against ex scene and all of them are different 1: fairy princess sings Kelly Clarkson at her ex boyfriend while floating in the air trying to be aggressive in a musical (fair but cringe) 2: human walks towards their ex singing Kelly Clarkson in a non musical setting and tries to aggressive (absolutely cringe) 3: what appears to be a normal human starts floating towards a person as background music starts to play, and even though it's Stronger by Kelly Clarkson you can't help but feel fear as they look down upon this person who seems to be taking this pretty well all things considered,a thousand thoughts rush through your mind as your eyes dart back and forth between the two,fighter...ex lovers.... acquaintances, you realize you don't know what's going on,then you come to the devastating realization....where's the background music coming from? It's obviously there but there's no band no speaker...and how is it so clear,is it all in your head, well it must be,a human can't float, musicals aren't...then it happens, the other person breaks out into song (terrified, scarred, traumatized)

Originally this movie was gonna have a different ending where the blond sister didn't end up with a guy in the end! She was just gonna be best friends with the elf guy. But then Disney bought Lucasfilms and stuck their grubby hands in this movies production. The love of friendship was going to break her spell. I really wish that we could've gotten the original ending because that would have been a great message. That love comes in many forms and that not all love is romantic. That you don't have to date someone to feel loved or be happy. Admittedly I do like this movie and it is a guilty pleasure of mine. But I do long for what it could have been.

I'm so confused if I've seen this movie or not lol I saw the movie Epic and the looks of it are so similar that I can't tell them apart (even though Epic had a very different plot and less singing) Also what is this

I think he'd love it honestly. You know that famous quote from Romeo & Juliet, 'a rose by any other name would smell as sweet'? Yeah, that was a subtle dig at the Rose Theatre who had a sewage problem and smelt like... well, ya know. A Midsummer Night's Dream was always a drug trip/fever dream of nonsense and drama so this over-the-top, musical (borderline if not outright at times) cringe-fest of a film seems like a pretty good adaptation, while still being its own thing. I like the film, it's not incredible by any means, but it's fun if you don't take it too seriously and I like that it's not a copy and paste of a million other films similar to it so it wasn't boring.

I’ve known about this movie for a while thanks to videos being made about it, and everytime I see it I just get a bit sad because this movie has so much potential like I wish it was made with more love for it yk lmao. I can 100% understand why this movie would be a guilty pleasure, the style and animation is really nice

This is my mom's favorite movie. I introduced the movie to her because it has most of her favorite songs in it, but I was looking forward to hearing one of my favorite actors sing in this movie. But the character (Fairy King) doesn't sing in this film, and I've heard the actor sing in a bunch of Broadway soundtracks. I just wanted to hear a cover song, but it doesn't happen. I was PO'd, but I got over it because I saw how happy my mom was watching the movie, and that makes it all the worthwhile.😊

I loved this movie so much I watched it 6 or 7 times on tv while I could, then bought a dvd of it a few years later when I remembered it and couldn’t find it on demand anymore. I’m a sucker for this crap. I did hate how fast it was but I love Alan Cummings voice and I love singing to the songs.

Ahhh, i remember loving boggy woggy kingy wingy and hating the dwarf when i was a kid and i felt really guilty cuz i thought the show was about not jugding someone based on their looks and i thought i hated the dwarf cuz of his looks and heights (w/c is very rare cuz im into tiny things especially dwarves) and apparently realizing it now, i just didnt like his nice guy personality bc I didn't really hate bog king's servants :/ And no matter how many people criticize it (fairly and justly), this will never topple strange magic as my number one favourite movie as a kid merely for the fae aesthetic, the strange magic duet, my hots for dom goth girls, hots for tall lanky but sweet men, and those weird gremlin goblin couple lol
