OMG I've looking forward to you covering this!!! Such an eerie and atmospheric setting, tak a lah! I kinda dig King's take on 'god'; this remote and alien entity that doesn't care about the life of any individual, even little kids. It's functionally no different to a Lovecraftian elder god, moving people like puzzle pieces against other unknowable beings while inspiring a fervent and cultish devotion in those it touches. Honestly fascinating!

I love the "true crime" renditions. Strange Resorts is my favorite, I also love the Kingo Bingo, and all your Salem's Lot Lore. I've most of the stories you've gone over and I have to say that you have re-excited my enjoyment of them in entirely new ways! Salem's Lot and IT are my favorites as far as full novels go. However I very much love his short stories best. I fancy myself a writer and am well aware of how terribly difficult it is to rip your story down to a "short" one. It's even more difficult to cram all that cut down story into an actual cohesive short story. "Every word counts." My father told me many times when we've discussed short stories.

This is my favorite type of content you do. I don't need the story word for word, that is what the book is for.. these side trips coming at the story from a different direction and adding to the mythos are truly fan art and the little easter eggs are a ton of fun. Always felt a bit sorry for the Yellow Card Men. Some have suggested they just got lost in space and time, but considering the cards I think they were saddled with a really crap job, possibly against their will. The poor guys are never having a very good time. I've hoped for more info on them in a short story or something. I have a strong suspicion they are "differently-abled" like the Breakers or those who Shine. Desperation and The Regulators are a hit or miss with critics.. but the concept was King playing with his art which I got a real kick out of. He has never played safe and often takes a lot of risks, writing what he wants vs churning out the next bestseller. King and Bachman, two sides of a coin, experiencing a similar but different experience simultaneously. Very multiverse before there was such a thing in popular culture. Ahead of it's time. The two hardcover books are mirrors of each other as well if you compare them side by side. He always hinted at Bachman being more than just a pseudonym, like he really gave this other side of himself the reins and let him drive at times.. and The Dark Half lends a bit more support to this. Almost everything he wrote has some anchor in his real life experience that grows with a liberal application of "what if". As a final example of how cool King is, when he was contacted by a book dealer who had put two and two together and realized Bachman was King, he not only suggested he write an article about it for public publication..he offered to be interviewed for it. The man has class.

Suspension of disbelief and such, one gets desensitise getting a fresh perspectiv on it is so much fun and strange resort has the perfect approach for stephen king stories, where what really happened between the supernatural and unreliable narrators often is a thing! Another universes where outsider pov is gold 1 batfamily, with how the loner grump secretly has a big family woth questionablr relations or well, more or less all gotham vigilantes anti heros, a crimelord and who knows who throw themselfs at their "nepo baby pretty boy emotional support cop" , freaking out everyone else in the police department

I may give these 2 another shot. These 2 are the only SK BOOKS I've only read once. Well at least for books that were written more than 7 years ago. I just read that "The Tommyknockers" is one of the least beloved by fans and SK himself. That saddens me. It has two my favorite characters Jim Gardener and Ev Hillman. A fully realized town and and an original take on aliens. I wonder if it's because it came right after IT. Like "Aladdin Sane" great album but it was the next album after perfection ".....Ziggy Stardust....." Anyway does anyone else love Tommyknockers?

I'm curious Mr. BOOK CLUB...are you a New Englander? You don't sound like one but that might be your "podcast voice". I've always thought SK means a tiny bit more to people from NE. Alot of us have vacationed in ME(I mean it IS Vacationland!) When I was 12 my grandparents brother and I stayed at a place called Mediwisla, it means "loon" in Penobscot(?) Near Kokadjo ME(population 6, seriously) Iused to help out the people that owned the place and they offered me a chance to come up for the whole summer the next year and work. At 13 I was just starting to really get into girls so I wanted to be in Boston for my summer, but as it turned out I got in some trouble the following May and i was dodging arrest, I had a warrant so it was the perfect solution. I took a bus by myself that following June to Bangor where I was to be picked up. I had a 2 hour wait so I went to see SKs house. I didn't see him but I saw Tabitha (as luck would have it I had her novel with me, she signed it. She was with Joe Hill, it must have been because we're the same age. Have you read her books? It's insane to me how much talent that family has. Long story long I should have gotten Joes signature. I had the summer of my life. Did a little DYS (juvie) time when I returned to Southie but sometimes you eat the bear.... Full disclosure, I've been a vegetarian since the Smiths broke up, Ive never eaten bear.
