The stretchy lid is a gimmick. The issues you had could be resolved with slightly larger containers, and then you could even stack them while full!

The selling point of the containers is to avoid using bigger containers to save space, not sure if it's effective.

@techno vikernes I personally try to not use disposable things, as I don't like waste, but I just use regular reusable containers and don't have issues. I don't see the purpose of these containers since you can't stack them so they technically use more space than a larger container XD

The way the flexible part behaves in the commercial, it looks like they heated it up. It flexes with no resistance

Yes, I was wondering that! Or maybe they're using a prototype with a different kind of material in the lid. Otherwise, you would think that running the lid under hot water would be part of the instructions... although then it would shrink and crush the food afterwards.
@RamLaska
@RamLaska 3 жыл бұрын
Agreed. Probably a hair dryer or possibly just a candle about a foot beneath it. Something that would weaken the lid, but not the frame or clasps so much.
@RamLaska

Also, I'm pretty sure that's TPU, not silicone. Silicone would be super stretchy and rubbery at that thickness. It also doesn't get looser when warmed up. TPU is very moldable when heated.
@Oink_Blaster
@Oink_Blaster 3 жыл бұрын
@@Donteatacowman either that or they heated it just to get a good shot by ruining the flexible part. They don't reuse that lid and the shot ends with them closing the lid. Why don't they show them taking it off and show how it looks after? I think they damage it on purpose.

About 20 years ago, I bought a set of round ASOTV covers of various sizes with the same stretchy material surrounded by a hard plastic outer ring that would make an airtight seal over bowls. Rather than conforming to foods that were above the top of bowls, the idea was that you would push down on the stretchy part to make a vacuum. Over a short period of time, they also became similarly cloudy and got stretched out from their original tightness.

a big flaw I see with this is that with softer fruits like blueberries that lid is sure to crush them, and as shown in the marshmallow test you end up smushing them. on the note of some people saying its easy to close and some saying its hard, outside of user error it could be that the manufacturing tolerances are too high so lids which are only slightly defective could be sent out.

They are creating a solution for a problem that shouldn't existing. Next will be shoes that deal with your toes being smooshed when the shoes are 4 sizes smaller than you should be wearing.

The best feature of this set, to me, is the most obvious thing: the lids are see-through. Everyone seems to take this for granted. If I can stop putting little stickies on lids to know what leftover is inside, I will be a happy camper. There really should be a larger container included. And as for eventual cloudiness of the lids, well, you don't have to stick EVERYTHING in the dishwasher!

We purchased these BEFORE seeing your review. I really wish I could find the final review on those lids. My husband actually wanted to get these (he's a somewhat pack rat and loves containers). Now he's questioning the purchase due to the flimsiness of the stretchable lids. We just received them today, still have the boxes and still are able to return them. Also, it looks like when the lids are harder to latch that you’re pushing the lid down to far… I noticed that each time they latched quite easily when you lift the lid up a tad after your first attempt.

If you are looking for something to store chicken, fruits, veggies, cut avocados, I would recommend a vacuum sealer, they offer containers that are leak proof, and removing the air properly (not gimmick) will allow it to last longer. With the avocado, put the saran wrap tightly over the cut edge, being sure not to touch the face of the avocado and on the back put a rubber band to seal it, not allowing air in.

@Deborah Ajao obviously it's overrated. The only way to eat caviar is this: 1. Take fresh-ass bread. Slice. 2. Take ~67% butter. Leave outside the fridge for 20 minutes so it's spreadable. 3. Butter the bread - spread a thin layer of caviar, just 1 level deep. No stacking.

For the small container I would use that for butter. Reason being is that back when I worked in an office, we had a toaster but not butter. So I would bring a pre sliced bagel with my own butter, toast the bagel, then butter it. Made for a great office snack. Definitely annoying to bring a big container for a small amount of butter haha. For me though, I felt this product was one of those trying to solve an issue that doesn't exist. For instance, okay, you've crammed a bunch of carrots and celery into it and that's making the lid all un even. How can you stack containers in the fridge or your backapck now? It seems the answer is just ...use a bigger container that can fit all the stuff you need to fit. Great review as always I never knew stuff like this existed

If you want avocados or even apples to last longer in the fridge once they've been cut, you need to use a vacuum sealer to remove as much air as possible. Once there is air in the container, the fruit will continue to spoil. I tested my Foodsaver vacuum seal containers by sealing a half-eaten apple in one, and it was still nice and crispy over a week later.

I don't mind the tiny ones, they're useful sometimes for left over sauce, or like left over cheese, or even a left over lemon halves, which funny enough happens to me a lot. I personally wouldn't like that they are no longer stackable after the lids stretched out with excess foods.. Also if its that hard to close, I would find it really annoying. Usually if stuff is that much larger than my container and I don't have a larger container, I use a Ziploc bag.

I wonder how easily they stain and retain food odors. I've ruined several plastic bowls with left over spaghetti. And I keep one certain container for onions because it smells like onion no matter how many times it is washed. Seems to me the lids wouldn't hold up to certain uses. I think I would pass. Thanks for testing it all out and giving us the details!

Could you please do a review, on the Vaultz Lock Boxes? I’m thinking about getting one, but I’m concerned that the locks are easy to break into, and I’d like to know if they are worth the money. Your reviews are really informative

Since the top covers are made of silicone, you cannot use abrasive stuff like sponges and dishwashers. Instead, use a silicone brush(some called it a sponge but it doesn't absorb anything) on the silicone covers with a little drop of dishwasher soap.

Dude so many things you review are exactly something I need too. I have some stretch lids (you can put them in the microwave though) but they're round for bowls, and don't fit on everything. But I always have stuff I'm trying to put in a rectangle container and there's just barely one piece of the food sticking up so I can't shut the lid. Like it'll just be sticking up 1/4 inch and I have to use two containers, or get a much bigger container, it's frustrating AF.

It's when the lids are stretching is when it's more difficult. That should be expected your stressing the lid.

The fresh thing is most likely versus an item left out, not wrapped, or stored in some sort of container. Question however, did it keep the onion smell from your fridge, was it a strong onion or a sweet, that will make a big difference on the odor.

If you're using the stretch feature, you can't really stack your containers anymore. And if you're not stretching them you might as well have bought regular containers.
@scaper8

The "stackable" feature definitely sounds like it was just something thrown in so as to add another selling point.

@@scaper8 Most containers are inherently stackable. Hardly a feature, just something you expect.

I can see with the really small one if you were taking like a sauce or dressing to work for lunch so it doesn't get all over the regular food.

Wait, but having soft top would mean your food would get damage or bruised and you can't stack them. Yes I can fit like 10% more and then what? Who wants smashed grapes? Great video as always though! Also, love the new callouts!

I don't think these will hold up at all over time if you are constantly stretching the lids. I could be wrong. Look forward to the update video. Oh and maybe put something in the freezer for next time to let us know how that does 😉👍

I wonder why it looks so much easier in theirs? 1- they sped up the footage? 2- the guy putting the lid on is super strong? or 3- the lids in the ad were a different, more flexible material, and if so, why didn't they just use that for the actual product? It looks way stretchier and easier lol

Another comment suggested they might have heated it off-camera to make it more stretchy, but that because they don't include heating it in the instructions and also explicitly say not to microwave the lids, it might damage them faster than plain old elbow grease. Would also crush your food when it cools down and loses the extra elasticity the heat provided.

If you seal the container at room temp and then toss it in the fridge, the cooled air should create a partial vacuum as it volume of air contracts, causing the concave lid you saw.
