I gotta say Dev: I just finished watching parts of a couple other videos (could have finished but... worse than pointless). The producers were basically unhappy about whatever... as usual. Amd the comment section read like a cross between penthouse forums and bathroom grafitti. The general consensus was more or less everything and everyone about our game sucks... especially cucks and sjw's and gp's and wotc and ... sigh. Then I found this, your latest. And I read the first few comments. And it feels like opening a window and letting in the summer. Birds are singing and the air is sweet. Information is being given and sensible, thoughtful commentary is being shared. The positive vibe is ... just wonderful. You've made a good place here Dev, full of good people. If there are challenges facing our game they are far more likely to be solved with good sense, good humour and civil, educated discourse than ... well... that other stuff. Please keep it going.

I know the reasoning behind not doing rares and mythics is because 90% of the video would be “this is good, play this card”. What I’d like to see though is a “R&M Hazards” video where you warn new players, perhaps also experienced players, of which rares and mythics to avoid unless you also pull the support cards for them. I can’t count the number of times I’ve had to advise players to drop their (dare-I-say-it) rare/mythic to play a more consistent common/uncommon. The above sentence alone will ruffle some feathers, but I’ve actually had players thank me for this advice at prereleases. That shiny little rarity symbol can bait even experienced players who are unfamiliar with sealed into playing a card that does not benefit their gameplan. If anyone can nail a video like that, it’s the one and only Dev from the place!
@ripred426 жыл бұрын
Nicholas Rauch great idea, a lot of players fall into the trap of looking at the rarity symbol, and then imagining the best case scenario, rather than thinking of the majority of situations where the card is sub-par or just dead.

Hey there! How about to devote a video to the topic "How to start playing the Arena Open Beta". Maybe some advice to new players who don't want to waste their first wildcards on useless crap. And that would be great to see a few decks you can create with what you get at the beginning.
@adamjensen76776 жыл бұрын
The issue is to help people choose a starting deck to create. Or maybe even help find universal cards that are useful in several builds. e.g. Karn can be used in lots of decks rather than Makeshift Munitions.

*Other good advice for your Pre-release:* 1. Get to bed early the nights before, so you are well rested. You will be there for 5h or so doing hard mental activity, you will be tired enough at the end, so don't show up already tired. 2. Take a shower and use some deo (actually bring that deo along so you can 'touch up' if needed ~ lots of people in smaller spaces make for a hot environment). Nobody likes stink! 3. Bring (healthy) drinks and food (if your gamestore doesn't have any), you be there for a while using a lot of energy in your brain-mass, got to replenish that somehow. 4. If you have BASIC lands, bring 18 of each color to your prerelease, saves you from fighting over the these lands at the land stations. 5. Also have a bunch of matching sleeves, bring them along too (i tend to sleeve up 8 of each basic land i bring as well (seeing one generally goes 2 color, saves you some time sleeving up!). With 17 lands generally in a 40card deck, that means needing at least 23 other sleeves, if you also sleeve up those basics; Bring some more for tearing and sideboard (or protecting that foil mythic you got). 6. Bring a good mood, spread love, be kind, and don't fret to ask for a judge if something is confusing or something went 'wrong'. 7. HAVE FUN !

Great overview. Pretty much spot-on with the card evaluations. One small note: all packs in GRN will contain at least 1 guildgate. Not sure about the seeded packs but I feel confident they will also contain one on-guild gate as well. This seems like more useful knowledge for draft than sealed, but you will definitely have access to the fixing you need or be sure your gate matters cards will be relevant.

To be clear, the stamped rare IS the rare in your seeded booster pack. So instead of getting an "extra" stamped foil rare, one of the rares you would have gotten will BE your stamped foil rare. So 6 rares in most kits instead of the usual 7.

How does multiple sources of mentor work? Do they stack, and when do they check powers? 1. If I have multiple 2/2 mentors and a 3/3 mentor, can I chain the mentors to bring them all to 3/3s? 2. If I have multiple 3/3 mentors and a 2/2 mentor, can I stack all the mentors onto the 2/2 to make it huge?
@leoskucera36556 жыл бұрын
No, neither of these is possible. The mentor ability checks if it has a valid target when it goes on the stack and once it would resolve.
