Stuttering/Missing Mods in Fallout 4 on Xbox - Load Order Update

In this video, we'll go over removed mods and what that can do to your mod menu *read below as well*, what mods cause stutter, and a little load order update.

*When I mentioned performance mods in this video, I meant for the Series X | S since those consoles have a performance option that can mess with those mods.
**Remove affected mods without clearing your Reserved Space - You can try signing in as a a different gametag and load up the game, when you click on the mod menu, you should be able to press 'Y' to get into your load order. If you can get there, you can remove the affected mod from there. Mods are based on the console so you should be able to switch back to your main account and play as normal.

My testing so far: stuttering and freezes happens when use any mods that changes AI behaviour and other npc mods except textures. So health, weapons etc.

Thanks! I still notice a quick stutter sometimes when in combat but I’m rolling with what I have for now. It’s usually when the XP notification pops up. The bigger issue was Boston which seems better now.

Since the update fix, I've ditched a lot of mods. HDR is done really well, true storms and darker nights, mixed with enhanced flickering lights works well, don't even need the old sun alignment tweak anymore.. It's improved the vanilla lighting and colours no end i thought.

In addition to the stuttering, I got the "cannot complete operation" error which can only be fixed by deleting the reserved space and with it, all the mods. Just when I was going to take Heather on a honeymoon trip to Far Harbor. Damn you, Todd!

I found out after I did that that there may be a workaround where you can switch accounts and delete the affected mod. Wasn’t able to test it but a mod author mentioned it in the Reddit. I think I had a tad bit of Ghost Space so it worked out though 🤷‍♂️

Not sure. There’s not a ton in this recent one that requires it but a couple of the showcase mods did. If I get some time this week, I’ll try to add a column to the Load Order Spreadsheet for DLC or no DLC.

im playing in xcloud and the mod page s broken , a stupid warning pop up "The Operation Could Not Be Completed" =(

Could be a mod in your list that was removed from the server. Not specific to the Spiffyskytrooper mods. Could also be your Xbox Privacy settings but I’m not really sure with xcloud to be honest. You’d need to be able to get into console settings to clear Reserved space.

I'm on xb1x. Played FO4 since Oct 23 with no crashes. Lots of crashes and issues since second update which "fixed stability issues". I've had remove any mod that effects visuals (Vivid etc.) as they all give me screen splitting. Also removed everything that adds to workshop menu as caused crashes. No more green commonwealth, but I do have stability. 😊

That’s so strange. Someone else mentioned they were having issues with Vivid. No idea why that would affect some but they said they had no others mods. I’m at a loss for that 🤷‍♂️ But hey if you’re good now then that’s good!

Hey Matt don't know if you'll see this but I'm loving your load order. It's working really well for me on series s. I am part of a group only recently setup UMLX (ultimate mod load order) but I would love to suggest using your load order as a base line for series s models as its a weaker system come pared to the X. Hope you wouldn't mind me sharing your load order?

Not at all. You should be able to copy that spreadsheet to make an editable version. The color coding and notes should help if you take out or change things. I removed Desert Punks and Vehicle Overhaul but left that on the sheet since it was in the OG Load Order video. I think I settled on the NPC mods that I have for now and any frame drops in Boston are worth it to me.

Not familiar with that one but you’d probably want to avoid using any other landscape textures since that mod adds them. Purple textures means that the game can’t pull any textures which could also mean it doesn’t know what to pull. Looks like weathers and music are included in that so you would want to avoid having other mods like that too.

@@Matt_the_TechRanger no, not purple textures or landscapes, purple lighting overlay, doesnt matter where I put it in the LO and the mod was updated, and I tried contacting the author.. theres no other mod substitute like it, im gunna have to go into the cK on pc to update the mod by myself, just wondering if you've found a fix for that the problem since it happened to 76 weathers, calamity AND CLO b4 they were updated.

There might be something that fixes the mod menu from being inaccessible for mods that get removed but between that and VATS, I wouldn't expect anything that will fix certain mods. That would be up to mod authors. Some have moved on to other things so mods that have issues now would be up to other authors to update. You can keep an eye on the F4 Mods Reddit though.

I'm still trying to figure out what kind of mods conflict with Far Harbor (armor, weaponry, etc)....ive turned off my foliage and lighting mods and it still crashes. I can't travel the island properly (via Nakano's boat), can't get to far harbor the town itself, can fast travel via cheat terminal to certain places, but if i venture from there, it crashes...i dunno. Anyone with any information would be appreciated 👏

The Unofficial Patch caused issues in Far Harbor before the next gen update. It'd be hard to narrow it down unless you disabled all your mods and tried to get there on a fresh save. I'd recommend checking out the Fallout 4 Mods on Xbox Reddit too.

Yeah...another guy on YT had mentioned that the Far Harbor dlc doesn't like mods. Makes me feel better that it's more of the dlc than the mods I suppose, Bethesda didn't optimize it for modding very well I guess

Do you know what causes the luminous water glitch which cause enemies to have a silver halo around them? Then there's the bug that causes your screen to go black when taking jet.

Can’t say I’ve seen those 🤔 Could be character mods for the glow, not sure about the jet. You might try searching the the F4 Mods Reddit or online.

@@Matt_the_TechRanger At the time this was going on I had 21 mods installed including the unofficial patch. Two of these mods I guess you could say were character related, Hot Mama NPC's and Simple Settlers, the rest of the mods were settlement related which were the clean and simple series by Okie. I decided to remove all the mods and that solved all my issues including the stuttering everyone complains about. I played over 4 hours today with no issues at all. I then decided to reinstall 6 of the simpler mods and noticed a slight stuttering every now and then but nothing like before. Lesson learned, the more mods you install the worse the stuttering will get.

@@michaelproctor8100 Yea, probably more NPC-related mods you install, the stuttering can increase. My experience has been about the same. Smooth for the most part after I removed a couple. I think for the time-being, I'd say you can use stuff like that but as long as people know it can be a cause then at least its known.

@@Matt_the_TechRanger Here's the real question. When I started this current game I already had all 21 mods installed and the stuttering was there from the beginning, but the luminous glowing water thing didn't start until I hit Level 21. Wonder why the delayed reaction?

Xbox 1 here and still can’t get any mods to show up. Still says operation can’t be completed. Cleared my reserved space and after that didn’t work, uninstalled and reinstalled my game and still no luck. Cleared reserve space for a 4th time but still nothing. 😡😡

Did you do a hard reset of the Xbox after you uninstalled the game? You can also try relinking your Bethesda account on the website. accounts.bethesda.net/en/linked-accounts Otherwise it might be something wrong with your account so you would need to submit a ticket to Bethesda.

It happened to some on Skyrim as well. Could be your privacy settings on Xbox set to not being able to see community creations. You can see how to get there on my Skyrim Creations Issues video. Could also be a matter of unlinking and reminding your account. You can search for that on the Bethesda help site or click that Reddit link.

I'm so gutted SpiffySkyTrooper took down all his mods. I came across a steam thread calling out a mass bethnet boycott, which has me worried for the future of console modding. ATM I'm not sure if I want to carry on playing if more mods are going to be taken down. Losing progress and redoing lists is frustrating and disheartening.

You can do you 🤷‍♂️ Deleting your saves just cause a mod gets taken down isn’t necessary; that’s also why you should make a duplicate hard save and not rely on auto saves. Mods generally don’t get taken down by Bethesda unless they’re against the guidelines. Some mod authors have moved on but there’s still plenty of mods out there.

@@Matt_the_TechRanger I get what you are saying, but while some mods are safe to uninstall, others aren't, especially if they are hard coded and will wreck your game save. Also I wasn't referring to bethesda taking down mods, but modders taking them off the bethnet. If more modders keep taking down their mods we can expect to get the operation cant be completed often.

@@nathansantana7055 before the update, if mods were removed, you could still access your list. So that could be fixed since that may not be intended. That’s why submitting tickets and letting Bethesda know is important. You can also still play with your mods right now if one is removed, you just wouldn’t be able to get into your list.

Once you get the operation cant be completed bug, we would need to investigate which mod/mods is the culprit and without knowing which it will take quite some time. Luckily you saved me some when you mentioned spiffy took down all his mods, when I thought it was only 1. Still my question is if more in my list were taken down by other modders. Hopefully bethesda can fix the operation cant be completed bug soon.
