This is due to poor design by Subaru. There is a steering shaft isolator made of rubber that creates a lot of understeer. Many companies make parts to fix this issue such as PERRIN Steering Dampener Lockdown Kit. I have a Forester that had major understeer issues driving hard and i did this mod and it made the vehicle handle 100X better.
@SecretSauceyjuice4 жыл бұрын
In older models you could just install the steering linkage used on an sti. It didn't have the rubber damper. Just a solid metal shaft. I've done it on multiple cars. Definitely makes for a more confident on-center feel and crisper steering response instead of feeling like steering through sand sometimes. But I'm not sure how this would affect understeer. That rubber damper would certainly numb steering feel and dampen a bit of responsiveness, but ultimately understeer is safer than oversteer so engineers design it into the suspension. Locking out the steering damper may have just given you better feel of what was going on at the wheels so you could drive the car more precisely. I doubt it actually changed the dynamics of the car at all.
