Ken, I had a really rough day and came home to find my fiancée upset because her brake light went out. Of course I had to fix it for her. Your demeanor in this video reminded me of when my grandfather used to teach me garage skills as a kid. Made my day a little easier. Thank you sir.

Ken! Came to KZbin for the instructions for my 2015 Forester brake light. Great job dude ! 4 years ago I bet you didn’t think people would still be using your video. What I found interesting was that a few instructions say to pry the light housing out of a clip. But you clearly show it simply sliding off and back on the clip! Anyway. Well filmed, well edited clear instructions.

This was the most helpful of all instructions I've seen so far , except I did take the tip to slide a thin strap behind the mechanism to assist with sliding it out, because there is no way of obtaining a good hold on it. Maybe if I wore better grip gloves it wold work, but the strap behind it made it really easy. No need for wedging it open with some tool. Replacing the bulb and sliding it all back in again was the easiest. No problem. Thank you for the demo. With my 2014 Forester approaching 10 years and this is the first time I had to replace a bulb in the rear, I am now thinking of replacing all of them soon. Considering how easy the whole process is, I won't be delaying it much longer either. Thanks again.

Worked fine on a 2010 Forester. Comments talking about getting the unit loose by rocking it many times (and not breaking the plastic clip, too) were most useful. My 3/8 inch ratchet didn't work on the bolts (didn't have the metric), but a big vice-grip pliers did get it started enough to use the Phillips head screwdriver. Thanks!

Nice video, well explained, good pacing - great video. As others have commented, don't touch the bulb and the job is easier with a 10mm socket esp if one's Soob is not as clean and pristine as yours is :) Your assembly popped right off, if it's cold and snowy out it can be much, much harder to get the assembly off the car esp. the first time.

Yesterday, dealer wanted $56 for this 5 minute fix. I figured if it wasn't self-explanatory, the solution would be on youtube, and declined. However, I was always led to understand that halogen bulbs shouldn't be handled with bare hands, something about skin oils causing hot spots on the glass and premature failure. Since the pack of Sylvania 7443LL had several icons on the back, one of which was apparently gloves, I erred on the side of caution. I had no metric sockets, and found neither a 3/8 nor a 7/16 workable. I found the top screw to be overtightened (on the other taillight, too), but a large blunt tip Phillips bit got them both loose unscathed with some tenacity. I would also recommend first masking off the bumper cover below the taillight assembly. Once it was detached and hanging down, the sharp inner edge of the black plastic housing made some light scratches in the paint. Probably removable with polishing compound, but more trouble than some painter's tape and newspaper.
