This story is blowing up now. It happened in my home country and no justice has been served, all rescue attempts were stopped and those guys were basically left to die then got flushed out of there. An official enquiry took place and nothing resulted. Any questions should be directed to Colin Piper, Port Operations Superintendent of Paria fuel who claims alot of "tough decisions" were made that day.

@abdulaleem45011 ай бұрын
Here are some additional facts: 1) They were in there for 4 days and on the 3rd day people were still hearing banging on the pipe 2) Paria got the coast guard to stop divers from rescuing the men trapped 3) There were multiple divers ready and willing to go in from lmcs and rescue that same hour but were all blocked from going in 4) Paria said the coast guard would be doing the rescue but the coast guard said they had no equipment 5) The families of all the divers sat in the refinery carpark for 4 days waiting to hear news about their loved ones and the company couldn't even give them some water to drink, it was community members who brought food and water for the families 6) They left those men in there to die and when 4 days had passed and they were sure they were dead they flushed the bodies out the pipe as quickly as possible; this damaged the bodies and flooded any air bubbles remaining so if the men were alive by then the flushing operation probably killed them 7) The bodies were retrieved in secret, placed in boxes to disguise them and then snuck out via a back entrance, while the family members were left waiting 8) The families were never informed that the men had died or that bodies had been retrieved; they found out via a television news program 9) No one from Paria ever met with the families at any point, they were just outright ignored 10) When questioned in the commission of inquiry it was revealed that no rescue plan was ever made; they simply sat and waited for the men to die 11) Paria had the pipeline capped off on both ends so no one else could escape. 12) Chris tried to check himself out of the hospital but was restrained and forcefully sedated on the orders of Paria who feared he was planning on mounting his own rogue rescue operation (he later confirmed he was) 13) No arrests were ever made or charges filed and no one was fired or at least suspended from the company for the failing 14) Not a single cent was paid to any family yet 15) No new security measures or operational protocols were ever implemented or existing ones updated to prevent something similar from happening; indeed, Paria never even promised or announced plans to make any changes of any kind whatsoever (the remaining and new divers that were brought in were simply told to be more careful and that it was responsibility to prevent accidents of any kind) 16) When first informed of the accident, the first thing that Paria managers asked was how much downtime there would be; this was their first and only concern 17) Paria resumed operations the very next day after the bodies were retrieved (although the company wanted to resume work the very same day but it was nighttime already); this included the pipeline where the accident occurred which was put back in use the next day as well (in fact, 5 minutes before they started using it again they flushed one last time: Bits of diving suits and human tissue were still inside and once they came out of the pipe they were simply discarded in the ocean) 18) The company has an extensive history of corruption: Its managers are in bed with the government and they use the company to do underhand business so they can steal tax money. The company was originally called Petrotin until a scandal involving the prime minister who was found to be selling the oil illegally on the side using a friend as a straw man; to avoid jail they closed the company down and started 5 new companies from it Paria being one of them. Furthermore, local rumors have always swirled around claiming that the government is doing oil deals with Venezuela secretly to avoid sanctions as Maduro and The TT prime minister Rowley are apparently good friends and if the divers had survived the spotlight would be placed on the company which would also face legal actions from these men (dead men can't sue you or go public with what they know), thus making it much harder to do their corrupt deals so they were left to die and the government-run company got away with it with no consequences.

It may have been a legal decision to protect the company? Correct me if I'm wrong but LMCS is an independent contractor, right? If that is the case, the oil company might have felt that as long as the men died as a result of the accident they could argue in any potential lawsuit that it was their fault etc, but if they died in a rescue attempt performed by the oil company than that might change things. The right thing to do was to have done everything, even if risky to get those guys out of there. I'm sure if one of the people trapped was a son or daughter of the company CEO they would have taken all risks to save. Sad. PS: Oil operations generate millions a day. This could have also been to protect the pipe itself, as a potential rescue may have involved cutting a section of the pipe.

Ephesians 6:10-18 says, Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints. The bible is no old book. You have to really let Christ open your eyes; to see the world in shambles. Many people say it's a religion to lock up people in chains, and say it's a rule book.. why? Because people hate hearing the truth, it hurts their flesh, it's hurts their pride, it's exposes on what things have they done..people love this world so much, s*x, money, power, women, supercars.. things of this world. Still trying to find something that can fill that emptiness in your heart. You can't find that in this world.. only in Christ, the bible is no chains, it's a chainbreaker. @@church6882 I beg to differ sir. I studied safety and worked in the safety industry while I was in engineering college. The correct procedure would be drill a 1 inch hole 1 ft below the plug and bleed off the pressure then when the pressure is normalized pull the plug. Weld the hole shut. Safety is Job 1. Release pressure slowly release vacuum slowly. No wonder he wanted to mount a rescue because he's the one who could have said we're not going to just open that Delta p tiger box without bleeding the pressure off of the tiger Delta p. He didn't make that objection because he's not an engineer he's just following a routine that was talked to him by the guy who told him to pull that plug all of a sudden because he was sure there was no pressure. Can you find the safety guy and you take a 30 inch plug out without a bleed off? If I was the safety diver I would be a little disappointed in myself for taking the money if I didn't see that coming. I've been on here for a long time telling everybody how to do their job and having everybody spit on me and I just don't care until I hear that it kind of echoed around and they change your procedure I'll take a shot at it once in a while and somebody will say bleed off the pressure first this morning. Chris made it out, with ENOUGH air. He found air tanks, that allowed him to get out. He was sucked into a pipe violently, and was ABLE TO CLIMB OUT. Speaking to the testimony of Piper, who said “I wouldn’t want someone sending my son in if I was stuck, and risk my sons life.” If a beaten, battered and bruised, traumatized man can get out as long as he had enough air, I don’t see how it is dangerous to send someone in to help the others. If I was the man in charge I would have gone myself. This is just insane. They survived for DAYS. Imagine that. Trapped in a pipe, in an air pocket, you already heard knocking, so you “know” people are coming to rescue you. You have no concept of time, waiting days probably feels like years, but no one ever comes, although you keep waiting, because you know they know where you are. It’s so messed up. It blows my mind, that they just left them there. Send someone in. If it gets dangerous, they turn around and troubleshoot the dangerous part. What were they worried about? The pipe isn’t THAT small. Obviously they could turn around in it and stuff. I dunno. This whole story just really turned my stomach.
@mysticmonk503711 ай бұрын
Whats even worse is immediately after they get sucked into the pipe, all the men (the ones who were still conscious) kept calling/shouting “Chris”, further proof that they all trusted & relied on him in difficult situations I hope Chris doesn’t blame himself for their fate.

Survivors guilt is unavoidable, it takes a really long time if ever to overcome it. People may spend their whole lives thinking of every action and decision that could have been changed in order to have a different outcome. I still do it and it’s been 8 years, I’m sure with therapy it would help but I don’t believe that would ever make it go away fully. It’s something you have to learn to live with and find a way to make peace with, trauma like that changes you forever. It broke my heart seeing the amount of pain he was in recounting his horrific experience. That company is fully responsible from the installation of that plug, lack of safety protocol and abandonment of the recuse mission and all those men. Blood is on their hands and I hope Chris can find a way to heal as well as the families of those who perished. A good start would be that company being held accountable.

The horror those poor men must have experienced - it hurts me to even think about. What an incredibly evil move by the company to call Chris a liar about the air pockets and not even attempt a rescue. Absolutely disgusting.

That is terrible, especially the fact that the company wasn’t willing to do anything to rescue them is a damn crime. And poor Chris having to live with the guilt of promising his friends a rescue that never came.. truly a heartbreaking story. And the conversation at the end is quite chilling as well. They were brave men, having broken bones and still answering Chris like they’re completely ok not to put each other down.

These same companies write you off as collateral damage but keep saying how “safety is our top priority.” BS!!!!

I hope they get a big lawsuit.

At least they were left with a sense of hope as a result of Chris's promise, even if unfulfilled. That was all they had.

I can't imagine how the sole survivor feels knowing he did what he had to do to save them, only to be shot down in the end. This is sad...

What a terribly miserable claustrophobic way to die. It sucks that oil companies make billions but are too cheap to spend anything on a rescue or preventive measures and safety equipment.
