Summer fantastic job. Nigerians and envy. When will they realize that some people who made it to the top sacrificed so so much to be there. They only see the finished product and begin their pepper eye. I don't know this actress personally but I can attest that sheer hard work and determination got her to such a level. We should be praying for her to recover and come back stronger because she adds such a positive image to our country. Her accomplishments are truly astounding. People let's love on this beautiful woman and stop the bad belly. Nigerians grow up!!

Thank you Akasummer, fortunately summer is just around the corner!I'm posting this comment because Genevieve is one of Nollywood actress that I have profound respect for, Nigerians in diaporra & at home never cease to amaze because some of us in diaspora migrated into a foreign country but, we still retain these ancient characters and whenever such rumour arises, those at home transfers the rumour to those in diaspora.those in diaporra fuels the rumours. My mother periodically started having mental problem after she lost her only daughter,instead of her relatives (brothers/sisters) to help her out, they started taking her from one herbal centre to another spiritual centre. Being upset, I made an arrange for her to come over to Europe for treatment.upon arrival she was admitted at a specialist hospital in bologna. Unfortunately, I have to arrange that she should be transferred to a different hospital because right there in the hospital where she was receiving medical treatment, there an Africa nurse who often come to check on her. One day, I stumble across her in the hospital, and she told that I should take my mum to Africa because, there is no cure to such spiritual illness in Europe. My mother is fine & sound until date becos i took her to different hospital & refuse to listen to the theology of idle men/women . Thanks you Aka summer for throwing more light on crucial matter such as this. Chuck from rome

Most Nigerians have a long way to go. Some people need to open up for exposure. Because, Some educated men and women who lived in the abroad still believed that the spirit of their dead family members are the ones after their lives instead of seeking for medical help. Chronic negative thinking, guilt, trauma, addiction all fall under mental health. You are absolutely right- anyone can go through these things. Our mind is the most powerful thing a human has- Lord help us to renew it daily-moment by moment. Help us to think positive thoughts towards one another-remind us that as we think so we are. I am on a mental health journey- I realized how much negative thoughts go through my mind- it’s brain damaging. If you are constantly thinking negative of situations and people you are doing self harm to your brain. Let’s all aim to do better in this area.

Well done summer on this video of mental health awareness and destigmitization of mental illness. Everybody in Nigeria and even the whole world is having an iota of mental illness like anxiety, depression etc.( after loss of loved ones, jobs,no money) etc without even knowing ,that but wen its getting out of control that's when people notice . They see going to psych Doctor or nurse as a terrible thing .The more we talk about mental health illnesses and create awareness for people, the more it removes all fears around it and they can seek help ASAP. We shouldn't see other forms of illnesses as normal and regard mental illness as worse, it can happen to anybody. ( Neurological disorders)

This is coming at a very good time being 'mental health awareness month.' Thanks for addressing this very important issue. Beyond the obvious possible causes of psychiatric illnesses, most people are unaware of the possibility of psychiatric presentations of a lot of medical conditions like some liver diseases presenting with psychosis; thyroid problems presenting with bipolar, anxiety or depression symptoms; UTI presenting with psychotic symptoms, etc. Just to mention a few. Traumatic events can also lead to psychiatric illness. Again, we fail to understand that psychiatric illnesses take various forms ranging from simple depression to complex ones like schizophrenia and subtle ones like personality disorders. That being said, it is possible that most of us can identify with or know someone close who has experienced a mental illness or the other. It is more common and closer than we think, underreported, underrepresented, understudied and undertreated. I particularly like the comparison to diseases of other organs of the body. Puts things in perspective. Thanks again.

Mental health problems is a serious issue that we shy away from in Africa, especially here in Nigeria. What is the way forward?

@@hauwauyakubu-wokili5239 Awareness.. of how common it is, of how manageable, for the most part, it is, of the importance of appropriate social support without social stigma, of the importance of the involvement of all stakeholders including both government and non-government agencies in bringing awareness to the society. It starts in the respective corners where we find ourselves. Getting educated on the what, where, how, why and when of mental illness and teaching those around us about it.
@hauwauyakubu-wokili52392 жыл бұрын
@@hrhmystique7158you are right! The public needs some education on mental health. It starts from the home.....a depressed child who was most likely abused by male relative is seen as a sturbon, disrespectful and lazy child. ......such a child will definitely develop mental health issues....teen suicide is becoming common here in Nigeria. A girl of 10 years who lived close to my community committed suicide in December 2021 because the mother ceased her phone.
@hrhmystique71582 жыл бұрын
@@hauwauyakubu-wokili5239 yep! We don't realize how much our experiences affect us mentally, but we as a society are quick to sweep these experiences under the carpet. We refuse to address them because of religious, cultural, etc. implications and eventual stigmatisation. We have normalized abuse in our society, and the abused is expected to 'get over it'. A few people may be able to block the experience and 'get over it', but a larger population may be dealing with the mental repercussions and slowly dying inside with no support or means of seeking appropriate treatment/management. We start with us. The examples you site are not exclusive to our own community. It is global. It's just that in our own society, currently, it is a difficult issue to tackle, but one worth tackling nonetheless. I hope we are able to make advancements in this area, but it starts in our respective corners.
